"What I want" she said simply "is to see my crew mates. And If I receive an examination from Dr. Newell it will not be under your watch. It will be when we've been released from this prison, and no sooner. Now, if you could tell me why I'm here so we can get this little farce over with."

"Very well, Commander. You are here because we are simply curious. Your people have come to our shores for the first time and we are learning. Your species in particular is of note because of the interesting characteristics of the creature living inside of you. You want to see your crewmates, easily done. Doctor Newell is on his way. Once the two of you have been reunited, I will gladly allow you to see Lieutenant Uvek. As I said before, the Vorta stays here."

"The Vorta... Mr. Sann, is one of my crew mates. I won't leave him to your brutal practices."

She glared at him. A fierce, challenging glare that could only have come from Evijan. "Well then I'll just have to find another option. One way or another, he won't be staying here. I won't let it happen. I'll concede to your answer for the time being. But when we find a way then you can all go to whatever hell suits you best."

Quote:
"My name is Jalas, I'm a friend..."

Uvek painfully waved the canteen away. "No more tricks," he said slowly. His instinct was to rip her head off and for a moment he seriously considered it. But, she seemed different; harmless. He turned, looking for his interrogators and ignoring the canteen. He gratefully pressed the cloth to his ear, however, and slowly stood, stretching his frame fully, feeling the sores and bruises fighting the effort.

"If you are a friend, take me to my companions." he said, looking through his one good eye. His jaw was aching too, but that fueled his fire for revenge. Soon, he thought, soon enough. First, though, he needed to find Qech and the others. Somehow, he knew they were important to him and he would go nowhere without them.

The Doctor stood up wearily, and followed the Serpent.
Why did they need him to confirm their medical data?
Perhaps they want to make the commander trust them, they certainly had his trust.

Jalas smiled and took Uvek by the arm, leading him out of the room.

"I had planned on just that, Lieutenant."

Night had fallen by the time they exited the low building and made their way up towards the manor house. Despite the darkness, the oppressive heat and humidity clung to the air around them, sweat dripping from the Romulan's skin, clinging to his uniform. The trip took only a few minutes but by the time it was over, Lieutenant Uvek nearly collapsed from exhaustion. Once inside the building Jalas led the wounded man down the hall and into the study where he saw the red faced Commander Qech sitting across from and equally perturbed Tal'Harton.

The Tal'Harton stood from behind his desk and inclined his head, greeting the newcomers.

"Thank you Jalas, you may go now. Lieutenant Uvek, welcome. We are just waiting for the Doctor... here he comes now."

***

Doctor Newell was led into the study where he was greeted by Mihaj Sann and the rest of the Pike's crew. His escort stepped away as the Administrator beckoned the Doctor to join the group.

"Doctor, please come and join us. I'd like you to have a look at these medical records... it seems that Commander Qech has had a traumatic experience with our physicians. She's declining treatment for the moment, perhaps once you've returned to a private location you can assure her that she's in no danger of expiring any time soon."

Sann set his gaze on the Commander, deeply rooted arrogance and self assurance coloring his ever move. He expected the Doctor to comply and to find no fault in what was being presented.

***

Minutes before the two other Starfleet personnel had entered the room, Sann and Qech continued having unpleasant words.

"But when we find a way then you can all go to whatever hell suits you best."

At this point it was becoming clear that Qech was truly irritating the alien in front of her. She could hear the sound of his scales clicking against one another as he bristled in his seat. The fan of his hood flexed outward ever so slightly as she deliberately angered him. Truth be told, it was an unnerving sight for anyone of mammalian evolution.

"You continue to posture, Commander. You continue to speak in a manner unbefitting someone of your situation. It is beginning to grain on my patience... I will warn you this once: Do not continue to blaspheme my god. I have been generous but my kindness knows limits..."

Qech raised her head slightly in defiance. His rising anger may have been frightening, but her hot-tempered Fourth Host seemed to have the reins. It took everything she had to gather what little willpower remained after her torture experience. The psychologists on Trill apparently hadn't accounted for this sort of situation during her adaptation training. Evijan was pulling ahead.

"If the way my crew and I have been treated thus far is representative of your kindness, I would hate to see it at its limits. We have known nothing but lies since we arrived here... Transparent ones, if I may say so."

Uvek sat in a chair, close to Commander Qech and across from this new snake. He winced slightly, but tried to hide it.

"Well said, Qech." he turned to Sann with hatred in his eyes. "I find your welcome empty and useless. Unless you are blind, you can see the effect your welcome has had on me."

He shifted in his seat, crushing his pain down through mere force of will. "I would caution you to not underestimate our resolve. Despite what we have heard here, we find your hospitality to be severely lacking."

He began scanning the room, looking for anything that could be used as a weapon. Somewhere deep inside an instinct had awaken, and he knew that, given a moment, his hands would use well anything they could grasp.

Qech looked over to her comrade, both relieved and shocked when she saw him. He looked about as bad as she felt. Seeing him only strengthened her argument, as well as her resolve.

Did they cut off the tip of his ear? If that is what this bastard calls good treatment then he really could kill someone with kindness.

Evijan's relentless lust for competition flared through her mind again. He was in his element, but Davynn was afraid to give him what he wanted. It seemed she didn't have as much control over her memories as she would like. She leaned forward, determined to learn more about why they were put through hell, because there really seemed to be no reason.

"Tell me why we're here. If it has anything to do with learning about your God, then so far I can only conclude that he encourages lying, pointless torture and bad soup. If you are worshiping none of those things then you are poor educators indeed."

"Commander, this data is fine. i don't quite see the problem. Do you not trust these beings? Indeed i have been treated well, and there hospitality is quaint, if not unorthodox."
The Doctor placed down the tablet he was holding and placed his hand on the Commander's shoulder.
"Don't worry Davynn, your safe, you have me here, and you have Uvek. And if you let these lovely people have your trust, then they will show you what your missing out on." The commander didn't look convinced.

"Trust me, I'm a Doctor."

Qech stared up at Dr. Newell with her mouth open. She looked down at the hand on her shoulder and back up at its owner incredulously, shaking her head. How can he say this?

"Oliver... Are you cracked? Look, I don't understand why you haven't been put through the hell we have, and I'm quite glad you didn't have to suffer, but are you blind?"

She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She looked over to Uvek, who looked like he was about to throw something, and then to the Doctor again. "I don't see at all why I should trust these people when three-out-of-four of our vessel's crew have been tortured. You are missing the obvious! I am a Doctor too, if you recall, and my official diagnosis of Uvek is that his ear is missing! Wow, thank goodness for that medical degree or I never would have picked up on that."

The Commander's stress levels were through the roof. She'd been kidnapped, tortured, starved and deprived of any sleep since before the Hartington Disaster. All of this plus pregnancy hormones added up to a near-total loss of control over the symbiont personalities. In short, she really wasn't herself.

Sann smiled as he watched the infighting begin. Perfect, he thought to himself I couldn't have asked for a better situation... Slowly, he began to speak.

"Now, now, let's not get angry. You're supposed to be friends now. Commander, Lieutenant, why don't the two of you head back to the barracks, I'll send the Doctor along soon enough."

The Administrator snaps his fingers and three guards enter the room and loom over the two Officers.

"I insist."

Uvek took the first of the three guards by surprise. He had stood shakily, partly due to his weakened condition and partly due to his plan. His ribs hurt but they had hurt before. He was a man of action, if not memory, and he had to act!

He stumbled slightly, and when the first guard reached to stabilize him, he struck with all his Romulan strength, driving his hands into the midsection, then sweeping upward into its jaw, whatever happened next was a blur of fog through the abuse he had endured.
