(OOC: This is going to be slightly different than the other main storyline scenes. There is no one plot to follow, every crewmen is free to do whatever they want. Just give a location in your post header so we know where you are and play it out the best you can. I'll try to start us off, but feel free to put your character wherever you want to doing whatever you want to)

Stardate: 54011.9
Location: Captain's Ready Room

The Captain sat at his desk, looking over the crew rotation for Shore Leave... and not for the first time wishing that Davynn was back on her feet. Inevitibally his thoughts went to the reason she was out of commission, the anger rising in him as it had many times since his meeting with Doctor Kiv.

"As near as I can tell, they tortured her to discover whatever they could about the symbiont. Her own biological systems weren't touched at all aside from basic probing. The symbiont is in another category all together. My readings indicate that there was severe damage to some of Qech's memory centers which would account for the memory loss and confusion Davynn is feeling right now. I did detect traces of an unusual compound in her digestive track however. It's the only suggestion that they did something directly to her without an the intent of reaching the symbiont. I'm still analyzing it, but whatever it is they didn't like it in her. I'm convinced that it is the reason they pumped out her stomach."

Brennon cringed at the thought and doubly when he remembered that she was awake the whole time.

"Barbaric..." he muttered as he set the PADD down.

He was rubbing his eyes when the call came in, M'Rowl's voice over the comm.

"Captain," she started, "I have Lieutenant Calodan for you as ordered."

Brennon took in a breath and sighed deeply. This was not something he had been looking forward to... but it must be done he thought to himself. He scratched at his beard for a moment before replying.

"Send him in, Yeomen."

Location: Sickbay

Doctor Kiv stepped back into Sickbay, having just come back from her meeting with the Captain. She hated to see the look on the man's face. He had more than enough to deal with, putting the ship back together, keeping 700 people safe in such a dangerous and lawless region, adding to it by telling him in detail what was medically wrong with his trusted right hand... at that though the Doctor looked over to Commander Qech. The Trill was resting on an biobed nearby, eyes closed and breathing slow. Kiv wasn't sure if she was asleep and didn't want to disturb her -- the First Officer had enough of that from her captors. She pulled out her tricorder and moved over the Lieutenant Ghan who was resting on another nearby biobed. Unlike Qech, the Tellarite was very much awake -- and very grumpy -- though that was par for his people.

"Doctor Kiv, these accommodations are not suitable for an Officer of my caliber. I demand something with a much firmer mattress!"

Lornara shook her head as she ran the scanner over the hairless sections of the Engineer's body. He had recently been caught in a plasma fire, receiving third degree burns over a significant portion of his body. It had not been a pretty sight.

"We've moved you three times, Lieutenant, that is more than I can say for some of our patients. The new skin is taking root just fine, though hair growth is going to take some time. I'd like to keep you overnight tonight before releasing you, and then you'll be on light duty. I don't want to hear it, Ghan. Doctor's orders."

She had seen the look of rebellion in his dark, beady eyes and the protest starting to form on his porcine lips before she silenced him. Closing her tricorder she stepped away, moving towards Ambassador Rolen.

"I have met only one other doctor more disagreeable than you, Doctor Kiv... I do not need to be locked away while those fools dally about in my engines!"

Kiv shook her head and began her scans of the Vorta who lay unconscious before her -- thankfully in a normal REM cycle as opposed to the bouts of near coma that had taken the diplomat in the days prior.

Qech could faintly make out the voices coming from where Ghan was supposed to be resting. Doctor Kiv's voice was soothing as usual, despite the slight hint of aggravation in her tone. The tellerite however... His gravelly candor was enough to shake anyone out of near-death, never mind a light sleep. The subject matter was what quickly caught her attention:

"I have met only one other doctor more disagreeable than you, Doctor Kiv... I do not need to be locked away while those fools dally about in my engines!"

Qech smiled slightly, knowing exactly who he was talking about.

"If 'being disagreeable' means not bringing you a plate of fried clams when you were being prepped for gastric surgery, Lieutenant, then I suppose I'll just have to live with it."

She looked over to him, briefly catching the eye of Dr. Kiv as she did so. A weakened but altogether genuine smile crossed Davynn's face when she saw the engineer's affronted expression.

After the interrogation session with the good Lieutenant, Smith was relieved by a security crewman.

"Good, I can finally get out and take some leave." Smith thought. He was itching to take some shore leave, and needed to call his wife Charolette first.

"Petty Officer Smith to Petty Officer Koester - I'm clear from the brig, and en route my quarters (which he also shared with an Engineering Petty Officer from Orion Prime. He was nice enough, but was never home, now more than ever). I'll be off duty until 0700, day after tomorrow."

Uvek sat in the center of his room. His mind was clear, his thoughts formless. The room was dark and quiet as he prepared for Dr. T'Lau's visit. For some reason he was remembering an unnamed captain at the Federation shipyards, asking him to meld with the man and determine his capacity for vulcan philosophy. Hmph. Now Uvek was wondering about his capacity for vulcan philosophy.

Calodan entered the Captain's Ready Room and stood at attention before his desk. "Lieutenant Calodan reporting as ordered, sir."

Calodan knew where this was going. No matter whether he felt his actions were what save the ship, the Captain felt his actions were improper. He was going to be reprimanded, again. At this point, he was sure that we was going to hand over another pip and that his career was shot.

USS Hartington Officer's Quarters
Xavier Croft

Croft was packing a hiking pack with some essentials. He hadn't had any planet time in a while, and supposedly they had some amazing rock formations on the surface. He was out of uniform, wearing some sturdy cotton pants, sturdy boots, and a sleeveless shirt. The area he was going to was supposed to be quite warm. The pink burn scars on his arms were visible, but the reconstructive surgery had made them faint. Croft hadn't let any of the crew see them, besides Doctor Kiv, so he was expecting some comments. He slung the pack over his shoulder and left his quarters. He entered the nearest turbolift, a small smile on his face.

"Deck 7." The lift hummed to life, quickly descending the five decks. The doors slide open and Croft strode down the corridor, whistling. He stopped at the Counselor's office and punched the chime.

"Lieutenant Calodan reporting as ordered, sir."

Captain Brennon looked to Calodan from his chair for several seconds before motioning for his Operations Officer to take a seat opposite him. His face was as neutral as he could display, though his eyes carried in them a hint of the disappointment that was clear. Several more moments passed before the Captain finally spoke, but when he did, the tone was chilling.

"I've been reviewing what happened, Lieutenant, and I've come to three inescapable conclusions. One, that you deliberately disobeyed my orders. Two, the results of your actions to close the subspace tunnel has indeed caused the environmental effects that you predicted. Three, that your actions likely saved the lives of everyone aboard this ship. Would you agree with that assessment, Lieutenant?"

Location: Lieutenant Uvek's Quarters on Deck Two, USS Hartington

Doctor T'Lau rang the door chimes outside of Lieutenant Uvek's Quarters and stepped into the Romulan's sanctum when invited. Instead of her duty uniform, the Doctor wore traditional Vulcan robes, the artistic script of her people's written word spelling out her name as well as house affiliation down the front of her clothing. She nodded her patient and extended her hand in the traditional Vulcan salute.

"Lieutenant."

Location: Sickbay, USS Hartington

"If 'being disagreeable' means not bringing you a plate of fried clams when you were being prepped for gastric surgery, Lieutenant, then I suppose I'll just have to live with it."

Lieutenant Ghan snorted his disapproval of the First Officer's statement and rolled over, shifting around in an attempt -- a decidedly obvious and pointed attempt -- at getting comfortable.

For her part, Doctor Kiv smiled as she closed the tricorder, having finished her scans of the sleeping Vorta. His own recovery would be much longer than either of her other patients, but it would happen. Her smile falultered for a moment when she thought back to how she had received Rolen not long ago. The shear brutalization of his body, the amount of trauma. It was clear to Kiv's eyes that these Tal'Harton must have hated the Vorta very much to have treated Rolen the way they had... it reminded her all too well of the scars left on Bajor after the Cardassian Occupation, of her own experiences with oppressive aliens.

Forcing the dark thoughts away, locking them back into the deepest parts of her mind, Doctor Kiv made her way over to Commander Qech, the smile returning once again as she approached her friend.

"I'm surprised, usually when I have a comeback for him he hits me again with another barrage of insults. One of these days you'll have to let me in on your secret."

The Doctor had opened her tricorder once again, running a preliminary scan of the Commander as they talked.

"I'm surprised, usually when I have a comeback for him he hits me again with another barrage of insults. One of these days you'll have to let me in on your secret."

Qech chuckled, something that turned out to be a bad idea. She clenched her teeth as the familiar pains in her midsection flared up again. She recovered quickly with a smile to Dr. Kiv, as if nothing was wrong.

"I've just known him longer, that's all. He's just testing you right now, sizing you up. It's a tellerite thing. The insult show-down is always worse at the beginning." She shifted her weight on the bed, trying to get comfortable. She noticed she was sweating slightly, most likely a result of the incredibly vivid nightmares she'd been experiencing every time she closed her eyes. She tried to push the images out of her mind as she continued the conversation.

"A small bit of advice though" she said, her voice lowered. "The more insulted you appear to be, the more he wins. And the more he'll continue. It's all in the eyes." She smiled, and pointed to her expressively widened eyes with her middle and index fingers. "You'll get the hang of it."

Kiv noticed her patient's pain, despite Qech's attempts to hide hide it. She closed the tricorder and retrieved a hypo from her medical smock, tapping a few controls.

"A small bit of advice though. The more insulted you appear to be, the more he wins. And the more he'll continue. It's all in the eyes. You'll get the hang of it."

The Doctor smiled back and nodded, bringing her index finger up to her lips.

"Mums the word then, Commander-Doctor. I thank you for the advice."

She then reached downward with the hypo, pressing it against her skin. With a slight hiss the pain in Qech's abdomen began to fade. Not quite away but her comfort level did increase quite a bit. The Doctor looked down upon Qech with warmth and genuine concern.

"Better?"

"Better?"

Qech nodded slowly. "Thanks" she said softly.

She was tempted to ask when she would be able to leave sickbay. The Commander knew little about what was going on aboard the ship, aside from bits of information she'd received from Dr. Kiv, which made her feel more than a little useless. After the incident with the Tal'Harton, everyone aboard had their hands full, so she really hadn't expected any visitors. She had heard something about shore leave though, and the thought of feeling the sun on her face again was a certainly something to hope for.

Qech knew, simply given the way she felt, that she wasn't going to be released any time soon. Maybe if she was lucky she'd get to experience the tail end of shore leave before they left the planet's orbit again. It was a nice thought at least. And though she would never have voiced her opinion, she had to agree with Lt. Ghan about the mattresses.

Lietuenant Uvek had changed into a more comfortable and flowing robe of his own and noted with some satisfaction that this would not be a formal event. He waved his hand into the room.

"Doctor. I appreciate you opening yourself to this procedure. I know that it can be an uncomfortable prospect. I must admit that I have had some trepidation since you mentioned it. However, I find my mind wandering far too much, and I must have control if I am to remain here."

He brought her to the center of his quarters where small but comfortable meditation pillows had been arranged. A familiar vulcan scent wafted through the air from an aroma therapy pot in the corner. Uvek smiled.

"I hope you don't mind, but I thought it might help. Tell me what to do, I'm ready."

Calodan sat in the offered chair and put his hands in his laps. The icy feeling coming across the desk was palpable, and outside of the normal energy radiating off his captain.

"I've been reviewing what happened, Lieutenant..."

"Captain, I would agree to the last two points but I don't feel that I violated a direct order. You never ordered me not to go through with my plan, just said you wanted to explore other options. I felt strongly that without immediate action the ship was in immediate danger of destruction and being unable to contact you, I felt my actions were within standing orders to protect the ship." He made sure his tone was as neutral as possible. Arguing with a commanding officer at this sort of meeting wasn't a good idea, but Calodan knew that Captain Brennon was fair and would hear out his side. Even if it didn't have a bearing on his decision in the matter, it was still good to be able to express his views of the events as they happened.

"If it matters at all Captain, I am very sorry I disappointed you. That was not my intention, nor was it my intention to cause damage to the ship or subspace. I was afraid for my own life and that of my shipmates and did act rashly."

having dropped into her office for a quick overview of the files she had, and notes that needed tending to, she wasn't expecting to hear the chime sound.

With an expression of confused apprehension, she looked toward the door.

"Enter" she said as she turned back toward the file in her hands.

Croft entered the Counselor's office, smiling warmly.

"Good Morning, Rea, or is it afternoon? Anyway, I heard about some amazing rock formations on the planet's surface and thought I would explore them. Care to join me?" Croft kept his tone light, but he was full of energy. The thought of some real physical exercise had him feeling stir crazy. He walked over to the desk as he spoke, swinging his pack to the floor, and dropped into the comfortable chair in front of the desk, putting one leg over an arm and drumming a beat on his thighs for a moment.

quirking an eyebrow at his non-chalant behavior, she was suddenly very glad that she'd been standing a few steps from her desk when he decided to flop into her chair.

Clearing her throat and closing the file in her hands, she closed the distance to her desk to set the file down.

"Rock formations? So you intend to go hiking then?" she said and bit her bottom lip in thought. I haven't been hiking since I was a kid... could be fun to go again...

Looking down at the pack he'd set on the floor, then to him.

"I will need some time to prepare, but I think I'd enjoy some time off the ship."
