"At ease, Commander, I'm just checking up on you. I realized we hadn't spoken at all since we brought you back. The Doctors tell me you'll be out of here in a day or so, not back on duty, but that's something."

Qech smiled at the unexpected visit. For the first time since she'd originally been confined to Sickbay, she felt like she was actually on the Hartington again.

"Actually, you're the first person I've spoken to since the teleport, apart from the other patients and the medical staff. I imagine, with all the repairs, everyone is pretty busy." She smiled again, albeit, a little sadly. Sickbay was a lonely place to be in the best of circumstances. She tried to bury these feelings quickly. She was at least happy to see someone who wasn't wearing a medical smock.

"I can't say I'll be disappointed to leave the medical ward though. As much as I'd like to be back on duty... Well, let's just say I know better." She gave a slightly sarcastic grin before changing the subject.

"I did have a few things I needed to discuss with you regarding... Well, what we left behind. But first, How are things bridge-side? What'd I miss?"

Calodan left the Captain's ready room and took the first turbolift to his quarters. The entire way, he kept his composure, even nodding to a crewmember or two as he went. That changed as soon as the doors closed on the corridor. The only sound was that of his commbadge smacking the wall and the sound of his fist smacking down on the table.

He walked towards the replicator, then stopped. Not wanting any more trouble, he decided not to override the replicators protocols and instead reached into the cupboard underneath for a bottle with brown liquid and a glass.

"Maybe its time to reconsider this whole Starfleet thing Jim," He said aloud to no one in particular. The first drink of the evening down, and the second poured he noticed the blinking light of his computer console signifying a message.

The screen changed to show his mother's face. "Hi Jim. Starfleet is letting us send 1 message a month through the subspace boosters to the Hartington. I hope you're well. Just want to say how proud we are of you and all the work you are doing out there exploring." She paused, and her smile faded a bit, "Arjim, I know you and your father haven't seen eye to eye since your joining but it would be nice if you would write him. I know you've heard about the situation on Trill and Aunt and Uncle Folle, and well...your father has been rather upset..." He paused the message.

"Ya mom, I'll write him and let him know I eliminated potentially 8 planets worth of civilizations." He turned off his computer, he'd listen more later. Now, he needed to think. He slowly reached up, snapping the pips off his collar and placing them on the table in front of him.

Uvek found himself standing in the shuttle. Dr. Newell was standing beside him with a strange look on his face and Commander Qech and Ambassador Rolen were there, but somehow frozen in time and not moving. This was a strange experience. He was watching himself watch Dr. Newell while T'Lau stood a short distance off watching it all. Uvek turned from Uvek and looked at the vulcan doctor.

"At this point I have convinced Doctor Newell that we must perform a synaptic induction in order to segregate my mind. Our purpose was to endure mental alteration under the Tal'harton re-education process, as explained by Rolen. I thought that by this procedure we would be able to retain knowledge of the Tal'harton which could aid us on our journey, and perhaps allow a method of escape during our captivity, should my core memories remain intact."

He smiled ironically. "However, that proved unnecessary." The scene shifted and Uvek found himself looking at a green bloody mess that was his face. He winced.

"The Tal'harton are particularly violent. At this point there is no attempt to re-educate anyone. Simple abuse." He turned to T'Lau. "By now I have no control over my mind. It does not return in a form that allows memory until a second serious beating later on. Do we need to go any further?" he inquired with a shudder.

Smiling as she packed up a few various items into her pack and noticed that she was a full ten minutes ahead of the time she thought she'd leave her quarters at. Laughing to herself at the thought of going hiking with another person, she headed toward the door. She felt something strange picking at the back of her mind and couldn't place what it was, shrugging it off she took a deep breath and headed out her door. It was then that she felt an overwhelming surge of anger that seemed so out of place in her mind that she hadn't noticed she'd been walking the whole time.

when she found herself standing outside of Calodan's door she had to wonder why. Standing outside for a moment trying to figure out why she was here, another waive of anger swept her. I wonder... she thought to herself and pressed the chime.

The chime at his door made him quickly take stock. The bottle was on the table, half empty. His commbadge was in a glitter mess across the room, and his uniform was lacking its pips. What the hell.

He answered the door and was surprised to see the Counselor there.

"Hello Counselor, can I help you?"

In the moment it took for her to answer him, she noted the missing items from his uniform and the smell on his breath from the bottle she supposed was somewhere out of her sight range.

"Lieutenant... I was wondering if everything was alright." She paused a moment and then gave him a slightly confused look. "It's strange, I had intended to leave my quarters and end up at transporter room two, but my feet carried me here" Shrugging, she found herself at a loss for what to say, strange for a women who was schooled in what you should tell people.

"So, I just wanted to make sure everything was alright... which I can see that it's not..." she trailed off the last as she tried to read him through the mix of emotions she was feeling.

Calodan didn't have anything against the Counselor, or Betazoids in general, but it could be damn annoying not to have ones emotions be private.

"Thank you for your concern Counselor but I am actually alright. Just a bit of a family issue I am working through. I'm ashamed to say I lost my temper a bit, but I have it under control now."

He waited, keeping his mind as calm as he could. He didn't want her to come in, and see the mess he actually was, but he knew trying to conceal that from her would be impossible. Instead, he let some of his past memories bubble up, the symbiont in him providing plenty of emotional interludes to conflict. He hoped this would be enough to be confusing.

"But first, How are things bridge-side? What'd I miss?"

The Captain shrugged, not really sure how to answer the XO's question.

"Well, repairs mostly. And shore leave... I've been in contact with these Myosians, they seem like a nice people. They've provided us with star charts of the region, points of interest we may want to take a look at. All in all they're making this 'explorer' business a little too easy."

He smiled at the last statement, trying to lighten the mood a bit. Why is this so hard? He wondered to himself as he shifted his weight. He didn't like to see anyone like this, certainly not his friends, but the war had forced him to see many people he cared about injured, dead or dying, what was so different about this?

Brennon tried to force those thoughts from his mind as he continued speaking to Qech.

"Do you need me to bring you anything. I know you're not going to be down here much longer but if you need anything at all..."

Location: Inside Lieutenant Uvek's Mind

Doctor T'Lau watched the images and events play out around her with interest. The Romulan's mind was clearly in chaos and she truly wanted to help him find the way back. If her Vulcan disciplines could assist in that then so be it.

"You believe this is the moment of damage then, the point in which there was harm done to your mind. Have you performed these kinds of mental actions before?"

She narrowed her eyes a bit, a habit she had when trying to focus on something, but in the end she simply shook her head as if to toss an idea away and sighed.

"Alright lieutenant..." she said and looked him in the eyes, trying a more human approach of reading body language, but still to no avial. damn... I just can't put my finger on what's going on... "If you want to talk, you know how to reach me. I'd best be going anyways, I'm late in meeting someone" she said and started to walk away, stopped, turned and opened her mouth to speak. Thinking better of it, she just nodded and turned back toward her path to the transporter room. strange. very strange... she thought to herself as she left.

Qech listened to the Captain's assessment of the Myosians. It reminded her of the new encounters she'd experienced as Chief Science Officer aboard the Starship Challenger.

Or rather... My first host's experience... She shook her head slightly, as if trying to bring back 'Davynn' again. As she looked down she realized she was still holding the PADD that Dr. Kiv had given her with her baby's image on it. She smiled a little, still listening to Brennon, and laid it back down on her chest where she'd found it.

"Do you need me to bring you anything. I know you're not going to be down here much longer but if you need anything at all..."

Qech shook her head slowly, still feeling rather far away. She noted he looked uncomfortable. I'll always just be a reminder... she thought her herself.

"I'm just fine, Sir. You don't need to bring me anything. I appreciate the gesture though." She cleared her throat uneasily. "I suppose you'll want to know about the Tal' Harton... What we've learned, even if it was the hard way."

"David. We're just friends at the moment, Davynn. Anyway, we'll get to the enemy later on, once you're up and about. You'll have time to file your report in due time." He smiled, trying not to project his unreasonable discomfort too much. "You're getting a few days off, take advantage of it. It isn't the best way to get to lay around and have people wait on you hand and foot but I guess it'll do."

"Enjoy your meeting Counselor. I appreciate the visit." He backed away and closed the door to his quarters, taking his seat at the table and refilling the empty glass that sat there.

"Computer, pull up Starfleet service record for Ensign Raphael Silviero and playback in reverse order, audio playback."

There was a pause, then the computer began: "Ensign Raphael Silviero, service number 11435Alpha7, Deceased. Last posting, Engineering Assistant USS Hood." Calodan leaned back and sipped his drink

Qech shook her head. "No, I couldn't. I couldn't call you that, not..." she sighed. "Not now."

She found herself looking back down at the PADD again, the image on it was actually beginning to depress her; a reminder of what was at stake. And David wasn't helping. She had been so glad to see him when she'd first opened her eyes to find him standing there, but now his obvious discomfort only made her feel like she should be ashamed of herself somehow. She hated feeling like such a lump.

The report he had waved away was at least something that would have made her feel like she was at work again; something to take her mind off of sick bay, and just how incredibly lonely she felt... Now even more so. Even the Captain only seemed to have come to see her to rid himself of some guilt.

On an average day, work was her tonic. And what do you reach for when you want to forget something?

Qech sighed. A heavy, laborious sigh. She looked down at the PADD and then back up at Brennon, feeling confused once again as to who exactly she was. Something was missing...

"Yeah. I guess it'll do, Sir."

OOC: Gonna advance the time frame a bit folks, at least for my part of the story.

IC:

Calodan awoke to a buzzing alarm. "Computer, silence the alarm." Calodan straightened himself up, unsticking his face from the table. He rubbed the dried saliva from his cheek and groaned. He'd fallen asleep at the table.

Standing, he stumbled towards his bed, before remembering. "Computer, what was that alarm for?"

"You are on duty in 11 minutes."

Dammit he thought. He started removing his uniform tunic and headed towards the sonic shower. He hadn't signed up for any shore leave, and with Commander Qech in Sickbay, he was in command of Beta Shift as Second Officer...at least until Captain Brennon found a new officer to take his place.

After showering and donning a clean uniform, Calodan reached into the top drawer of his bureau and removed a small black case. He opened it, and counted the ampules. 4...then he would have to rig the replicators again to get more. He loaded an ampule into a small black hypospray and injected himself in his neck, twice. The drugs coursed into his system, displacing the remaining alcohol in his system and visibly energizing him.

On the way out, he reached for his commbadge where he always left it. Wasn't there, it was in pieces on the floor. "Computer, replicate me a new commbadge." He grabbed it still warm from the replicator and ran out the door, to the turbolift. "Express to the Bridge." The turbolift whirred off. His rank and position allowed him to specify the express modifier, telling the turbolift not to make any stops on the way. He walked onto the bridge with just seconds to spare and nodded to the Ensign who was sitting in the big chair. "I'm here to relieve you"

Uvek shook his head, his image returning to the shuttle. Doctor Newell was attaching the cortical sensor to his body. "I...I don't know. I had not anticipated this kind of reaction, but no I have never done this before. I have participated in emotional self-control and training in interrogation resistance, however, nothing at this level."

Uvek paused for a moment, looking at the image before him, and seemingly deeper than that. "Yes," he said finally, "Yes, this is the moment of separation, the moment I became segregated. Definitely."
