This is the thread where we'll introduce our characters. This is not necessarily an In Character Thread, but if you feel that it would easier for you to be In Character then do so. _________________

My character is Lt. Kyle Marcus. He is Lieutenant JG, and chief Navigator.
While I am still fleshing him out and getting to understand earth of that era, I can say that he initially entered space service in spite of his father. He was pushed as a child into computers and science, and rebelled against joining his father's firm: Cyberlite, Inc. and joined starfleet to exert his own will. Due to his overbearing father he tends to be introverted but he is still an intelligent and resourceful young man.
He rose through the lower ranks while helping develop systems for the NX class and overseeing refits for the Challenger program itself. Now, upon commission of his latest rank, he has been assigned to take the helm of the new ship. This is his first deep space mission, however, and he is slightly intimidated by the process. _________________

Lieutenant Commander Alexander Michael Weyland
Chief Medical Officer
Graduated a full year early, top of his class at Oxford with a Doctorate in Medicine with a Xenobiology emphasis. Started his residency but was convinced by his childhood friend Caden Wells to join Starfleet. Went through academy with Wells, almost got kicked out of academy multiple times with Wells. After graduation taught medicine at the Academy until asked to serve on Challenger by Wells.
Weyland was born in London but at 5 years old his father left and his Scottish mother moved them back to Scotland. Father was a distant part of his childhood. Surprisingly, Weyland has no chip on his shoulder, his drive to help people overcomes any petty jealous or parental anger he might have had.
Weyland's other love is music, plays piano, saxophone, and six string guitar. Loves classical music, up through the early 21st century "rock".
He is slight, with black hair and blue eyes. Wears glasses, seems almost bookish. Works out regularly but seem unable to put on muscle mass. He speaks with a slight accent most of the time, except when angry or excited. Loves a good joke, and generally outgoing, but doesn't often stick up for himself.
I think that's pretty good for getting on with, hope you don't mind me deciding the history with the Captain, can edit if needed. _________________

Lt Isaac Namara
Chief Engineering Officer
Graduated with multiple technical degrees. He began research on advanced technology while teaching, and was a part of the team that developed Transporter technology.
Namara is tall with a medium build, black hair and green eyes. When looking at him he always seems to be analyzing. He doesn't have a commanding presence, but demands much of those he works with.
Namara was involved in a classified research project when assigned to the Challenger. He is angry about this and would have resisted had Captain Wells not convinced him otherwise. He tends to take this out on his team. _________________

Selara Qech
Chief science Officer/linguist
After having raised 3 children and dedicated a generous portion of her life to the sciences on Trillius Prime, Selara Qech, now in her 60's, decides (with the urging from her oldest daughter) that she wants to expand her horizons. As the first host of the young Qech symbiont, Selara feels she wants to make her memories as rich as possible, and as informed as possible, to pass on to the next host.
Some of her colleagues are less than thrilled with her decision to take up the post of Chief Science officer and Linguist aboard the Earth Vessel Challenger. The relationship between the Trill and the symbionts is a very carefully kept secret that some feel she may expose. But Selara feels that her government is being overly cautious and paranoid, the end result being that they may simply be denying the symbionts a full view of the universe. She intends to avoid such a fate for Qech.
Highly regarded as stubborn and a risk-taker, Selara Qech pushes forward with her plan to aid the humans in their voyage; her only compromise being a promise not to expose the truth about the symbiont/Trill relationship. Some agree with her assessments, and support her decision. Others don't. But she is determined to leave the doubters in the dust. _________________

I sense Selara and Alex are going to be arguing a lot. This will be fun. _________________

Yashvir Vishani
Chief of Strategic Operations
Yashvir Vishani was born a Brahmin in Mumbai to an older family, long established in the leaders upper end of society and quite insular. Devout followers of Hinduism and believers in the fading caste system, they were among the old guard falling behind Earth's emerging unified culture, keenly aware of the divisions lost when the planet came under one government recently.
Distinguished in school, earning degrees in Economics and Psychology at a young age, the favored son shocked his family twofold by converting to Buddhism and entering into Star fleet in the same bold stroke. During his officer's training he focused on Military History and Medicine, taking a heavier course load than most students.
After a brief deployment in the home guard, Yashvir was transferred to Columbia in time for her launch, serving through her missions with Enterprise. When offered a chance at a better post on the newly commissioned Challenger, there was no way Yashvir could refuse.
Standing slightly over two meters tall, the youthful Brahmin cuts a handsome image, with short cropped black hair, and hazel eyes. His friends called him a mercurial over-achiever in school. While he always accredits any success to his family's efforts to provide the best education possible, a thing anyone could do given the right environment, he can barely settle for second place in anything.
Since entering Star Fleet, Yashvir has become a somewhat more mellow, generous individual - more of a team player, but no less driven. As an officer he strives to help his crew do their best. As an individual he can not settle for anything less than perfection in any pursuit or action. _________________

Indeed. I've considered the kind of hassle she might go through with a Starfleet Doctor. The Trill government went so far as to give her a falsified medical history, to cover up the existence of the symbiont. But, unless she miraculously makes it through the voyage without so much as a papercut (unlikely), it's possible that she and your character may end up with a shared secret. I'm interested to see how such events might unfold. _________________

I agree, I see Alex having a struggle once he knows, the chance to study an unknown symbiotic relationship, although he would keep the secret in the end. _________________

Oh definitely, I just see a struggle between the desire to share this knowledge with Starfleet medical, possibly even the feeling of obligation to tell, with the desire to respect Selara's and by extension, the Trill's desire to keep this a secret. It would make a good episode for sure. _________________

Bout half way through "The Good that Men Do" So glad you recommended the read, it's really good, and filling in a lot of blanks. I'm also downloading the first two seasons of Enterprise (I'm horrible I know) to get caught up that way (will eventually get all four but I don't have enough disk space on this computer). Any word on that Ape of a brother of yours? And what will Vishani's rank be? Just trying to see who get's my vote for XO (like it really counts hehehe) _________________
