I don't think, hearing the conversations that have taken place, that this simm has a chance, even though I think it would be a great idea down the road, but I vote to adjust this to some new ship/alternate universe type vessel.

I just don't think this is going to fly.

Thank you for the opportunity, but I do think we need to seriously consider bringing the existing simm further along. I would love to do the Nova, the Intrepid, the Andromeda, or Korolev. I am also going to suggest a warp accident that pulls the ship into an alternate universe, not a mirror, an alternate, where things can be very different.

Just an idea....

I would be very pleased to do a TOS story, set in the Prime Universe or the JJ Universe. The JJ Verse has a lot of potential because it is so unexplored, the problem with that of course is that we run the risk of going against what they're going to be doing... if the CO doesn't mind that then I don't see the problem. A Prime Universe story would be my personal dream, but as Uvek says... it doesn't seem to be happening atm.

I wouldn't mind trying to rework the concept, I have a few in mind and I'm sure that Mark has some things he'd like to do.

Mark, why don't you let us know what you personally have in mind and we'll work from there.

Ok, thank you, captain! Here's the preliminary thought, one that can be fleshed out as we go.

By all accounts the Alpha quadrant is still largely unexplored. Nemesis leaves off with the Romulans wanting to "talk". (I'm still having problems with the books you sent me, Tom, despite having Microsoft Office 07). In addition, the Borg, the Dominion War and so many other events have left the Alpha Quadrant in ruins. I would like to see what could be done with races like the Klingons/Gorn/Romulans etc in light of the weakened Federation. Or, perhaps a new fleet alliance goes into action against a new race similar to the Tal'harton or species 8472. There's so much our imaginations could create.

I've already got a race in mind to help stir things up with the Gorn. No reason why they could not be expanding after years of lying low (like the Romulans of TNG).....Remember, the Klingons and the Romulans both lost many ships during the war (although the Romulans stayed largely apart during that time).

or, as I suggested: a warp accident pulls the ship into a parallel universe, and they spend time working out how to recreate it. A universe in which the Romulans have captured the Alpha Quadrant and control earth, maybe!

Anyway, just some ideas....interest in those ideas can be discussed, if you'd like.

Thanks,

mark

OK - If we run a TOS, I have placed a list of species on the HUDSON chat thread.

I would like to launch the ship from Rigel IV. Our course would put us 90 degrees from the Klingon/Gorn border, heading to an unknown area of space we'll call the Gorn-an expanse. Some of the stories coming from the region include an unknown race which has contacted the Federation for help with Gorn attacks. In addition, there is a region of space where strange energy discharges have caused ships to vanish and crews to come back with half their number missing. Our mission will be to record these events and determine, if possible, what is causing these energy anomolies.

That's a basic story outline. As far as TOS goes:

Around 2223, tensions thickened between the UFP and the Klingon Empire. In 2267, the Organian Peace Treaty was signed which ended major engagements, but the two interstellar powers remained in a state of cold war with occasional skirmishes over the next couple of decades. In 2293, the Khitomer Accords were signed, effectively ending the war and ushering in seven decades of relative peace.

During the era of the original series, Captain James Kirk once noted (in the episode Metamorphosis) that humanity was on "a thousand planets and spreading out"; however, this number apparently encompasses Earth's many off-Earth colonies and the various alien worlds on which humans can be found (just as non-humans have been depicted as residing on Earth) and should not be taken to mean that the Federation itself had a thousand members at that time. Considering that many of the Federation's other members have several interplanetary colonies just as Earth does, the full number of planets which the Federation encompasses may be impossible to determine; it is presumed that colony worlds are directly subsidiary to the planetary governments of their homeworlds (much like individual states/provinces in a nation), but this has never been clearly established.

[edit] Early 24th century
In 2311, the Tomed Incident occurred in which thousands of Federation civilians and Starfleet personnel died and Romulan outposts disappeared. The unrest was ended by the Treaty of Algeron, which re-affirmed the Neutral Zone and prohibited Federation development of cloaking technology.

In 2344, the Romulan Star Empire launched an assault on the Klingon outpost at Narendra III, but unexpectedly the USS Enterprise-C, under the command of Captain Rachel Garrett, came to the Klingons' defense. The Enterprise was destroyed in the skirmish, a sacrifice which did great honor to the Klingons, and the burgeoning diplomacy between the two powers soon grew into a formal alliance (in an alternate timeline, the Enterprise-C did not assist, leading eventually to a full-scale war).

Exploration and expansion in the 2340s and 2350s brought the Federation into conflict with several minor and major powers including the Talarians, the Sheliak and eventually, the Cardassians.

Here's a random thought:

We go to the Constitution A class. Sleek design, several movies behind it, tough ship.

We put it through a warp accident that brings it back to the Earth of the Romulan/Earth war, but Romulus has won and now occupies Earth! Also, they have refused cloaking technology to the Klingons and effectively locked them up in their own space. However, thanks to the advanced nature of the Hudson, we are able to fend off our first encounters with the Romulans and, after dropping some crew off on earth (who become fugitives) and beating a hasty retreat, we encounter a Klingon raiding party. After some tense moments, things go better for us, as we can advance their cause so to speak, while trying to return to our time! However, the answer lies in the dilithium mines of Remus.

Just an idea.....I can see several storylines coming out of that, from our liberating vulcans to establishing first ties with Andorians, all kinds of things......just an AU type of storyline.....JJ Abrams would be proud! LOL

The biggest problem I see with that story line is, the Prime Directive, it sounds like it eventually goes out the window. Not that this is a new thing, Mirror Universe Defiant for example, but I see it would need to be addressed at some point, an XO trying to bring the Captain to bear maybe.

I think an older ship, exploring the Alpha quadrant might be a good transition, would allow for a crossover or two, but still make it it's own baby. Some of your ideas would still be a possibility as well.

thanks, Capt Marek,

AU does mean alternate universe, so Mirror Mirror applies, as does any other AU storline we have seen, for example Trials and Tribblations (timeline not necessarily AU, but still), and a half a dozen Kirk novels written by Shatner, which link Kirk and Picard together.....too, I think Kirk, Picard, Cisco and even Janeway worked around the prime whenever they found themselves in extrodinary circumstances. Still...just the basis of a possible timeline story...

I am open to whatever feedback we get, bearing in mind that the captain wants to keep us as canon as possible. Just tossing it out....any other thoughts?

In my recruitment ad on the startrek.com forums someone said they'd be interested in a TOS era game, as long as it was set during the original 5-year mission era and not the movies. Just FYI.

well, it's set so whatever will float, I am willing to take part. I personally think that based on what I saw in TOS the captains of the fleet were a pretty tight knit group overall, and each knew the other. I think it might be neat to tie Kirk in to the story briefly.
