feeling a waive of pain and shock hit her like a fist, she barely took in the fact that the traveler was now dead. leaving her mind open was now a regret as she watched the creatures begin to close in on them. she could hear the voices of her team mates, but everything sounded like she was underwater as the creatures tried to overwhelm her mind. watching people try to put themselves between her and the creatures she could only think to duck and try to close her mind.

As the growing noises inside her head got louder she knew that they were trying to break through... and did the only thing she could think of. Not knowing if it would affect anyone on her team, though if it did, she'd take the risk for her own protection, she snapped her eyes open, stared at the closest creature to her and opened her mind completely and let out the loudest mental scream she could manage.

"NO!" she let the word run as long as she could and hoped it worked. When the creature nearest to her recoiled she knew she was on to something. Unable to check if her team was alright, she directed the scream outward... toward anything that was receptive.

With the pain in her head growing as the sound of the creatures trying to retaliate bombarded her, she closed her eyes and pressed her hands to her head and prayed that they were beamed out soon. The pressure in her mind escalated until she could take no more. The words of Commander Qech's order for emergency beam out was lost to her ears as the world became blurry and she felt a trickle of blood start to fall from her nose.

please... hurry... she thought to herself through the noise in her head.

(OOC: Solana and Zeara are not combat experienced or trained officers, they are science and diplomacy. I thought it would be good to protect them. As far as Mavers goes, he's a red shirt....definitely dead.)

Uvek watched the stone men closing from every angle...too many! Through the malaise and sound, there was Arjim's voice "Uvek watch yourself!" He spun, dodging a wide swing and simultaneously dropped the Teral'n while catching the TR-116 tossed to him. In one motion he spun, firing a fully automatic burst of ammunition right into the closest creature. The one facing him, the one about to thrust him through fell sideways from the burst of Calodan's weapon and Uvek felt a momentary wave of gratitude come over him. But it was short lived.

Commander Qech's voice cut through his focus calling for an emergency beam out. He heard a voice cry out in pain, and turned. Calodan was across the room, tending to Mavers, who apparently had just been horribly slashed. From the wound in his back, however, Uvek could see the violence of the situation. A flash as Mavers disappeared, and Calodan was across the room. Uvek fired another round into the midsection of the beasts, and watched as the others did the same. The smell of cordite and the smoke were getting too thick, but the beasts were hesitating just a bit more, wary of the weapons systems.

At that moment, Calodan was struck a vicious blow. Uvek dove forward as a blade swished just over his head. Koester and Smith were holding their own, and backing toward the group, firing as they went. Uvek took brief aim and ssent another round pouring into Calodan's attacker. At that moment, however, a beast kicked out and sent his weapon flying from his grasp, while a blow rained onto his head. He saw stars and blackness for a moment, before rolling to avoid another hit. This beam out better happen soon, he thought, spinning to find his Teral'n.

ACTION

"Qech to Hartington. Emergency beam-out!"

In the moments between the Commander's order and the tingling sensation of the transporter returning the group to safety another of the aliens broke through the security team's line and slashed out at Lieutenant Uvek once again. In a flash of gray and green the beast's weapon sliced through the Romulan's forearm. As the group vanished, the sound of Uvek's cry of pain rang in everyone's ear.

Materialized on board Hartington, the team took stock. Crewman Mavers had indeed been killed, Lieutenants Calodan and Uvek were both badly injured, the other members of the security team sustained wounds of their own as well while Lieutenant Zeara collapsed to the deck.

As Transporter Chief Blair called for a medical team, Lieutenant Solana and Professor Kolar began to administer First Aid. As she looked over the Diplomatic Officer with her tricorder, Lieutenant Solana looked up to Commander Qech.

"It appears that our solution will not be found on the planet after all, Commander. I feel I should apologize for leading us into what has clearly become a hostile and deadly scenario."

Professor Kolar knelt down next to Lieutenant Uvek, tearing a part of his own tunic to create a makeshift bandage. He pressed down with a great deal of pressure on the Romulan's wounded arm. In moments, the piece of cloth was stained dark green with Uvek's blood. Kolar took the other man's good hand and placed it down on the wound, nodding to him.

"You did well, Lieutenant."

With that he moved on towards Lieutenant Calodan who's back had been torn open by the claws and weapons of the aliens below. He shook his head and sighed, his eyes moving to Doctor Newell.

"Doctor, I think that Lieutenant Calodan will be in need of your services..."

(OOC: Sorry I was on a lengthy roadtrip when the action part of this post took place)

Koester was still gripping the TR-116 when beamed aboard USS Hartington. Yet again the weapon had saved his life against another hostile species. The weapon was nearly white hot from all the rounds he'd fired off.

Mavers was in a bad way. And Koester felt just as bad. He'd sustained a blow to the side and his ribs felt tender very likely broken...

Qech busied herself binding wounds alongside Professor Kolar , even though her hands were white and shaking once again from the beam out. As she worked, she noticed a slight crack in her armband, probably from her dive to the ground. That would explain why my head is spinning she thought. Her nose was bleeding as well, but she was too concerned about her crew mates to pay it any mind.

"It appears that our solution will not be found on the planet after all, Commander. I feel I should apologize for leading us into what has clearly become a hostile and deadly scenario."

Qech shook her head, regretting the action immediately as she forced back a wave of nausea and vertigo. "We had to try, Lieutenant. I just hope the medical team gets here qui-" she hadn't even finished her sentence when the team arrived, and she helped them to lift the wounded onto gurneys. She found her balance was severely off when she stepped off the transporter pad, fighting to keep herself straight as she tapped her combadge.

"Qech to Captain Brennon. We're going to have to explore other methods of getting back to our time. This planet is a dead-end."

Uvek stood to his feet and looked down at the still form of Mavers, covered in blood, then to the rest of his team. "Indeed." He said quietly, and with a hint of sarcasm and irony. He looked to Commander Qech then to Calodan, who was being loaded onto a gurney. A med tech approached him, but he waved him off, gripping his bleeding arm.

"I will be fine until I reach sickbay," he said shortly. "Tend to the others." He moved to the door with his fallen man, anger and regret filling his now pounding head. Had Calodan not been wounded he would have demanded to know what was so damn important to get there! No matter, they all paid a price for the attempt, and Uvek understood that they had to try, regardless. He looked to Qech.

"Are you all right Commander?" he asked. He was concerned for a number of reasons, not the least being the stresses the commander had been under since the moment she had revealed her pregnancy.

"Are you all right Commander?"

Qech turned toward Uvek, who was being attended to by a medic, despite his protests. She staggered slightly when she turned her head, the room moving past her eyes as if it were in slow motion. It took a few additional seconds for her eyes to focus on the Romulan, and she managed to regain her balance when the spinning room finally caught up with her. Her answer to him wasn't going to be entirely believable, she knew. Not after that stumble, but she had important things she needed to deal with now.

"I'm fine Lieutenant. Don't worry, just rest. You deserve it. Everyone does." She gave a sad smile as she looked about the room, turning her head slowly so as to lessen the dizziness. The sheer number of injuries and fatalities was painful to take in, especially given that she felt wholly responsible for each and every one of them. It seemed now that whether in medicine or command, she would always being dealing with death.

The feeling of weightlessness washed over her as the Hartington beamed them out. The sounds and pressure in her head climbed to a screaming pain as the link was severed by force and it was all she could not to voice the pain she felt. She caught a brief glimpse of the transporter room before she tried to stand, only to find that with the movement of her head to look up, her body gave out and with a soft cry she collapsed into the darkness.

She could hear the faintest of voices and movement, but wasn't sure if it was a dream or not. Wanting very much to be mobile and able to help, she tried to will her body to move, but failed. The only thing she could make work was a twitch of her right hand, and that took every ounce of strength she had.

"head... hurts...." she could hear the words in her own head, but couldn't distinguish her thoughts from her own spoken voice. Finally stress and weariness set in on her and she allowed herself to fall into full unconsciouness.

Uvek winced as a medic tugged at his uniform. "Fvadt!" he cursed, pulling his arm back. The tenacious medic held him forward and sprayed the endoplast over his cut.

Earned it, he thought. Hmm. Still, his team had done well, Smith and Koester worked as a unit, and the damage they inflicted no doubt saved lives. In retrospect it was good to finally unleash, to put his training into practice. He shrugged a sore shoulder. Of course, more training was in order. When things were settled here, it was back to the holodeck.

He caught Karl's eye. "Well done and thank you, Mr. Koester." he said, a similar nod to Smith and they arrived at sickbay. Uvek had to smile at the look T'Lau shot him. With a shake of her head, the two vulanoids set to work righting the apparently masochistic Tactical officer.

If the Captain had responded to her message, Qech hadn't heard him. The sounds around her seemed garbled in her ears and any movement went past her in streaks of color; but she fought it, and did so with fierce determination. I don't have time for sickbay she thought stubbornly. I need to speak to the Captain.

Certain that the other away team members were being taken care of, and knowing there was nothing more she could do, Qech left the Transporter room, keeping her eyes focused straight ahead and one hand trailing along the wall for some extra balance. From anyone else's perspective, the action might have seemed almost casual, as she did it all with a grace that could only be achieved by someone who had experienced six lifetimes. As she moved, she addressed the computer, making sure that every action she made, she made slowly.

"Computer. Locate Captain Brennon."

"Captain Brennon is on the Bridge."

Qech entered the turbo lift. "Bridge." Even through the haze that she was experiencing now, Davynn was determined to fully appraise the Captain of the events that had occurred on the planets surface. But when she saw him face-to-face, his features blurred and barely distinguishable, she felt her carefully planned words slipping from her memory. Her face was slackened, and her eyes held the evidence of the long hours that she had been awake. Snap out of it, Davynn. Focus.

"Sir..." She began with an awkward salute, attempting to steady herself as another wave of dizziness bludgeoned her. "I have a report of the events on the planet's surface. I'm afraid the options this planet once offered have... Gone dry. To say the least."

She waited for his reply, hoping she would be able to make sense of his words through the confusion in her mind.

Location: Main Bridge, USS Hartington

The Bridge was abuzz with activity as the Hartington's First Officer stepped out of the turbolift and onto the command deck. She was nearly run over by an fast moving Lieutenant making his way towards one of the aft stations. In her daze, the Commander didn't notice what was going on around her, her soul focus on reporting to the Captain.

"Sir... I have a report of the events on the planet's surface. I'm afraid the options this planet once offered have... Gone dry. To say the least."

Commander Qech's report fell upon deaf ears, and as she followed the Captain's gaze she could understand why. On the viewscreen sat a vessel, its space frame clearly derived from Federation design, however unlike any vessel the XO had seen before. From the science console, Lieutenant Rhak called out his report.

"Captain, the ship is generating some sort of deflection net, our scanners cannot penetrate the hull. I don't recognize the design, library computer search in progress."

Brennon looked over to Qech, concern etched on his face as he stood up. He motioned for her to sit down to his right as he spoke.

"Something tells me the situation on the planet is going to be the least of our worries, Commander. Whomever they are, they just appeared a few moments ago... literally out of nothing. We detected a tachyon surge, similar to the neutrino surge detected when a ship drops cloak, and then they were here. We're reading a name, USS Polarity... though that isn't helping us any. I've never heard of any USS Polarity or ever seen anything quite like that before. They're not answering our hails, not scanning, not doing anything." The Captain shook his head, sighed and sat down, looking over to her as he did. "Tell me what happened."

Location: Sickbay, USS Hartington

Doctor T'Lau scanned over Lieutenant Uvek's wound briefly before closing her tricorder and motioning for the medics to return.

"Lieutenant, your arm is badly injured. You will need immediate surgery. Due to the nature of the wound it is my duty to inform you that you are unlikely to retain use of this arm in a manner you are accustom to. We have two options at this point. Repair the damage as best as we can, to restoring as much mobility as we can. This would give your right hand approximately 30% of mobility and functionality as you currently enjoy, perhaps 40% with physical training. In contrast, we can amputate your forearm and replace it with a bio-synthetic attachment. This would give you full mobility, though this too would require intense physical training. The choice is yours, Lieutenant, though we must operate immediately."

Across Sickbay, Doctor Kiv closed her tricorder, looking down at Crewmen Mavers. A sad look crossed her face as she looked to D'hala, the Denobulan Nurse assisting her.

"Record time of death... 1817 hours."

With that, the pair stepped over to Lieutenant Calodan and Petty Officers Smith and Koester. Kiv smiled as she opened her tricorder and ran it over Calodan's wounds.

"Well, Lieutenant, you certainly know how to get yourself hurt without causing a lot of major damage. You won't be needing any major surgery today, but you'll be spending some time with Nurse D'hala and the tender hum of her Dermal Regenerator. As for you two gentlemen," she looked to Koester and Smith as she continued, "appear to be just fine. A few bumps and bruises... Mr. Koester seems to have sustained a cracked rib. Sit tight, Mr. Koester, we'll get that fixed up in no time."

On a nearby biobed, the ship's EMH stood running her tricorder along Lieutenant Zeara's head, focusing on the area of the brain controlling Betazoid telepathy. The Holographic Physician frowned as she looked over the data collected, not sure if her visual recognition subroutines were in working order.

"Lieutenant," She started, "How do you feel?"

"Tell me what happened."

Qech tore her eyes away from the view screen, and allowed her eyes to focus back on the Captain, or try at least. No matter how much she strained he still appeared somewhat blurry to her. She heard him speak, but even the last simple phrase took a moment for her to process. She was feeling slow, her mind dulled and foggy like her head had been filled with cotton, but spoke her answer with as much fluidity as she could manage.

"There were... A high number of serious injuries, Captain. Crewman Mavers is dead, and Lt. Uvek... Well, I can't really say for sure without having used a medical tricorder, but if you ask me, I'd be willing to bet he's going to lose that arm. A majority of the senior staff that were on the team are now in sickbay, including Lt. Calodan."

The mention of sickbay caused her to reflexively reach a hand up toward her face, remembering now that her nose had been bleeding earlier. She couldn't tell if it still was, but there was definitely blood on her face. Qech ignored it once again, and continued on with her report, giving the Captain the details of the Silicon aliens' revolt against the time-traveler.

"He built a beacon, Sir. That's where the eddies were coming from. And I wouldn't be surprised if these newcomers were travelers as well... It would be little coincidence, considering we just ran into one on the planet. And they do fit the description quite nicely; appearing out of thin air, the tachyon signature..."

The Commander waited for his response, fighting back the intense vertigo that was now becoming near-constant, whether she moved or not. "The beacon was designed to pull others into this space/time. If they're not hostile, it could be a possible way home."

"Thank you Doctor." Koester said as he sat down on the biobed to be examined.

He still retained his weapon as he sat however. He'd be damned if he'd be unarmed with that Cardassian on the ship.

still hearing as if underwater she narrowed her eyes at the holographic physician trying to bring her vision into focus. It took her a long moment to process the words she'd heard.

"Lieutenant," She started, "How do you feel?"

"I feel..." she started and winced as the sound of her own voice made a throb run through her head. "under water" she said and swallowed, trying to make her mouth feel less dry and her voice work properly.

"Fuzzy... can't focus" she said and closed her eyes to keep the room from feeling like she was on a roller coaster.

(OOC sorry for the delay - my phone stopped my emails)

The doctor looked at the wounds of the injured crewman on a padd. he needed to talk to sciences to find out more before he took any more action. If the wounds were infected by something that didnt belong on the ship, it was his responsibility to find it out.
