OOC: I'm going to move this along, I think the scene has stalled... partially due to my own fault and partially due to the Holiday that is fast approaching. I'm not going to close anything out, I will however wrap the scene and get us to a more normalized place over the next few posts. Feel free to play around in this or a secondary scene over the next few days.

Location: Main Bridge, USS Hartington

Captain Brennon's brow furrowed as Qech wavered in her seat, clearly unwell. His mouth opened as he was about to suggest a trip down to sickbay when Lieutenant Rhak called out, his voice laced with distress.

"Captain, the computer has found a match in the Pathfinder Database. USS Voyager encountered a similar vessel on Stardate 50312.5 claiming to be from the Federation Timefleet of the 29th century -- "

The Pahkwa-thanh was interrupted by Lieutenant Woods at Operations.

"Sir, we're receiving an answer to our hails, audio only."

Brennon shifted in his seat, briefly setting a hand on Qech's shoulder before nodding to Woods. As Captain, his concern had to be for the whole crew in times of crisis, not simply those he felt a personal connection with, not just his friends. And rightly, his voice carried with it a tone of deep concern for the situation at hand. It was clear the Captain wanted to get to the bottom of this, and quickly.

"Let's hear it, Lieutenant."

A voice called out over the speakers, deep and masculine with an almost lyrical component to it.

"Starship Hartington, this is the Federation Timeship Polarity. Our sensors have detected you outside of your normal continuum, our mission is to return you to your place in the 24th century. Secure stations and prepare for temporal incursion."

Captain Brennon's eyes shifted around the room, in a clear state of confusion. To his credit, however, the Captain acted quickly and decisively as he tapped his combadge.

"This is the Captain to all hands. Secure all stations and brace yourselves."

Seconds pass and Lieutenant Woods looked up and nodded her confirmation to the Captain.

"All decks report ready, sir."

Brennon nodded and opened his mouth to speak. "Notify the Pola..." But he wasn't able to finish the sentence. It became clear that the Polarity had been monitoring the Starfleet vessel and knew when they had prepared. A beam of light shot out from the futuristic vessel, striking the Hartington, pushing her back into her own time. Then, in a flash of light, everything changed... and nothing changed.

"Captain," called Lieutenant Rhak from the Science station, "We're still in orbit of the planet, however astrological data indicates that we've been returned to the 24th century. The Timeship appears to have vanished as well..."

Brennon shook his head and sat back, unsure what to make of what had just happened.

"I'm not quite sure what I'm going to say about this one in my log... Thank you Lieutenant Rhak. Lieutenant Woods, have all departments present ready check status. If everything reads good then we'll resume our former course... away from the Nebula and towards the planet we were going to study."

"Aye, sir."

"Captain?" Rhak looked up from his console again, this time, confusion crossing his saurian face. "About the Anthropological mission... we're in orbit of the planet in question and, sir... there is no one down there."

"What?" Brennon's head whipped around to meet his Science Officer's gaze. "How is that possible? The Myosian probes said that this world had tens of thousands of inhabitants scattered across the surface. Where did they all go?"

"I believe I may have an explanation, Captain." Lieutenant Solana and Professor Kolar stood on the threshold of the turbolift, looking over a pair of PADD's. Solana looked up, directly at the Captain. "The only logical explanation is that our interaction in the past caused some form of corruption to the timeline, at least on this world. Despite our best intentions, we may have been responsible for eliminating the very civilization we were intent on investigating.

Kolar shook his head, doubt clear on his expression, though he didn't refute the Lieutenant's analysis.

Captain Brennon looked to Kolar and noted his expression, cracking a smile as he spoke again.

"You have a different opinion, Professor?"

The Cardassian looked slightly startled as the Captain spoke and he seemed reluctant to speak his mind, though he did so with little difficulty. "I mean no disrespect to Lieutenant Solana, Captain, however I do not believe that it could simply be so easy. I spent some time looking over the Myosian data while we were en route and the people of that world were humaniods, nothing like the lifeforms we encountered on the surface. It is possible that they were the descendants of the traveler we encountered, or possibly others like him who came to rescue him and subsequently became trapped. Since he died... well, I don't believe that to have been our fault -- at least not wholly."

Captain Brennon nodded, still smiling. "I agree, Professor. Thank you both." I like him the Captain thought as he looked over to his First Officer. Qech herself was looking slightly worse for wear and the Captain took a hold of her arm.

"Everything is settled up here, Commander, let's get you to sickbay... what do you say?"

Doctor Kiv looked concerned as she removed her bone regenerator from her medical kit and faced Karl Koester. Her concern was not for her patient's physical health, however. The Bajoran's eyes locked squarely on the Security Specialist's weapon, currently locked in a death grip between the man's hands. Gently, she placed her hand on the barrel of the weapon.

"Mr. Koester, perhaps it would be best for you to put the weapon down. If I'm to treat your wounds properly, I'll need you to lay back and it would be difficult to do that with you holding onto the rifle..."

Nearby, the ship's EMH closed her own tricorder and eased the Diplomatic Officer down onto her back and administered a hypo. She smiled as she looked down to the Betazoid.

"You'll feel that way for some time, Lieutenant. According to my records, Betazoid telepathy is not meant to be used in an offensive manner. I'm going to treat you with a telepathic inhibitor. It will numb your abilities for a short time and allow your mind the time -- and more importantly the peace and quiet -- it needs to properly heal. I suspect it will be quite disorienting for you, but it will only last a few hours."

"Everything is settled up here, Commander, let's get you to sickbay... what do you say?"

Qech stood slowly as Brennon helped her out of the chair. "There were a lot of injured people down there, Sir, I'm sure there's a triage. I don't think..." another wave of dizziness hit her as she shook her head in attempted protest. She stumbled and, correcting herself again, quietly resigned to the Captain's wishes. "...Yes Sir."

Brennon shook his head as he escorted his First Officer towards the turbolift, smiling as he chided her.

"You never do anything the easy way, do you Commander? Lieutenant Woods, you have the Bridge."

"Aye sir." Woods rose from the Operations station and lowered herself into the Command Chair as the Captain and Executive Officer stepped into the turbolift.

Uvek stared at T'Lau for a moment. It just didn't seem that serious. His pain tolerance clearly worked against him in this instance. He stared at his arm. Ironic that years of working against the Federation had never resulted in the injuries he was sustaining since joining it. Broken bones were one thing, but this was something he was unprepared for.

Lose the use of his arm or receive an artificial arm. One ruins his career as a starfleet security officer, the other ruins his self-image and voids years of hard work. Still, Mavers paid the ultimate price. He looked at T'Lau.

"When faced with a bevy of impossible options, choose the one that allows you to return and fight another day." He said simply, citing his Romulan unit's creed. "Replace the arm doctor. We will deal with the consequences later." He laid his head back on the pillow and tried to gather his thoughts. Right now, however, there weren't any.

Calodan was sitting on the edge of his biobed as a nurse fretted about him with a medical tricorder. His wound had been hit with a dermal regenerator and aside from a bit of stiffness, he was feeling ok. Besides the large tear in his uniform shirt and jacket, the only evidence of his stabbing was a slightly pink area of skin.

As the nurse was checking him over, he had a tought. "Nurse, could you run a neurotransmitter level scan. I was wondering if there were any signs of elevated isoboromine levels in the past hour."

The nurse tapped a few commands and waved the medical scanning unit over his body. "Yes, Lieutenant. From your levels it appears you had a spike of isoboromine...if these residuals are anywhere near correct it was almost 10 times the normal level for a joined Trill. Are you alright Mr. Calodan?"

"I'm fine nurse..just something I experienced planetside. That gives me an explanation for it. If they are returning to normal levels now, it is nothing to be concerned about. If possible, I'd like to leave sickbay..." his request trailed off as the Captain and Commander entered sickbay. Commander Qech looked extremely worse for wear and the Captain seemed very worried for her. Calodan stood and walked over, ready to lend a hand if needed.

"Captain, when everything settles down...I have some data I'd like to share with you. I took some scans of the temporal equipment on the planet that is quite interesting."

"You never do anything the easy way, do you Commander?"

Qech laughed weakly, trying not to support herself too much on his arm, even with the difficulty she was having in standing up straight. "There was an easy way?... You could have told me this sooner." She smiled at the mock-reproachful look he gave her and spent the remainder of the dizzying trip to sickbay in silence.

She barely recognized Lt. Calodan's voice as he approached them, at least not until he got a little closer. It felt like she had cotton in her ears. She made the attempt to stand up straighter, and to do so without leaning against Captain Brennon for support. Out of the corner of her eye she spied Uvek on a nearby biobed, deep in discussion with Doctor T'Lau. She had the sudden urge to speak to him, to thank him for coming so quickly to her aid on the planet. As far as Qech was concerned, she may very well not be standing there now if it weren't for his actions... And his sacrifice. By the looks of things, she thought.

Without thinking, or paying any mind to why she'd come to sickbay in the first place, Qech let go of the Captain's arm and made to visit her injured friend. She regretted letting go immediately, as another wave of vertigo hit, followed by a brief sensation of overwhelming confusion; within seconds of attempting the action, she found herself wondering what it was she had been about to do.

Uvek noticed Commander Qech and the captain enter the room. She turned to approach him, but then halted apparently in distress. It was just as well, he thought, the conflicting emotions overwhelming him rendered him unable to even know how to approach conversation.

He looked at the doctor. "Doctor T'Lau you have helped me considerably. I consider you a valuable friend. I am as prepared for this as I can be. Please do not delay, I would prefer to avoid discussing it until it is over and I trust you to relay to the captain what is required."

His head hurt and he was overwhelmed with the prospect of losing his hand. It was a vital part of his life, not to mention his body, and his skills were directly manifested through his hands. Still, he had made the decision quickly, as was his custom. The quick decisions of the past led to his having a future, and this was no different. His chief concern now was the future he faced with Starfleet, and what the captain would do.

feeling the strange sensation of her telepathic abilities dulling she couldn't help but try to shake her head as if to clear it.

A few hours? she thought to herself as the room spun again.

"I've never heard or known any of my race to have to use them in defense... so I will take your word on that." she said and tried to shake her head clear again as the strange sensation of being without her abilities set in. "I feel so strange..." she mumbled as a weariness overtook her and she realized that there was likely a sedative mixed into the hypo as well. Sleep began to take it's hold and she welcomed it.

"Yes doctor." Koester replied as he reluctantly released the weapon, seeing Dr. Kiv's logic. He knew he had a knife hidden near the small of his back and a second knife hidden in his left boot. This second knife was a replication of the 20th Century Soviet Ballistic Knife, a hidden projectile weapon.

At least one Cardassian or Jem'Hadar soldier had fallen prey to the weapon...

The Captain held on tightly to his First Officer as they stepped into Sickbay. The Commander had been stumbling about as the pair made their way through the corridors of the Hartington, her condition clearly worsening. Brennon's eyes caught Doctor Kiv's as he entered the medical bay and the Doctor wrapped up her business with Koester.

"Captain, when everything settles down...I have some data I'd like to share with you. I took some scans of the temporal equipment on the planet that is quite interesting."

The Captain's mouth opened to respond, but before he could, Qech had squirmed free of his hold and attempted to move in the direction of the bed-ridden Lieutenant Uvek. The vertigo returned, her head swimming and her balance failing her.

As she began to loose her footing, Qech felt a pair of hands catch her before she could fall. Looking up she saw the kindly face of her friend, Doctor Kiv. Smiling, the Bajoran Doctor led the Commander to a biobed.

"Up you get, let's take a look..."

The Doctor pulled out her tricorder and began to scan her patient, the Captain looking on with a mix of curiosity and worry. As the Doctor made her analysis, the Captain pried his eyes away from his friend on the biobed and moved them towards the friend beside him. His hand settled on Calodan's shoulder and he gave his Operations Officer a quizzical look.

"So, what was that about temporal equipment, Lieutenant?"

Doctor Kiv concluded her scans a few moments later and administered a hypo of sedative to Qech, whispering her diagnosis to her friend -- despite the fact the patient had by this point become quite incoherent. As Qech drifted off to sleep, Doctor Kiv turned to the Captain and Calodan, a faint smile across her face.

"She'll be fine in a few hours. Her shielding was damaged and she experienced a mild form of shock from the temporal shift, as well as the particularly fast transport. Add that all together and her already fragile system simply couldn't keep up with it. I'm not saying she can't perform her duties, far from it in fact... we'll just need to ensure we don't put any undue strain on her until she fully recovers from this bit of strain. She'll need a bit of rest, but she'll be fully recovered. Coincidentally, the unexpected temporal shift did have one mild side effect. The baby has been shunted forwards in time."

The Doctor allowed a moment of shocked silence -- if only to see the looks of horror on the faces of both the Captain and Second Officer -- before continuing.

"It's nothing to be alarmed about, the shift was minor, only about two and a half seconds by my estimate... but I think it may throw off your betting pool, Lieutenant."

"I'm glad it is nothing too serious...but if she makes me lose the betting pool we will have words."

Calodan was worried about the temporal effects on the whole team. He was glad that he had taken the time to increase Commander Qech's shielding..if this was the effect of it boosted he was afraid to think what could have happened otherwise.

"Captain, I managed to take detailed scans of the temporal generators the humanoid alien was using on the surface as well as download part of his database. I've done some basic analysis and it is unlike anything we have ever seen. I'd like your permission to do some further analysis and experiment with some of the information I collected. "

The Captain nodded as the Doctor finished her explanation and though he was still worried, he knew his First Officer was in good hands.

"Thank you, Doctor, keep me informed."

He turned to Lieutenant Calodan and motioned for him to follow as he exited Sickbay. The man clearly needed a new uniform, though his wounds were mostly superficial and now completely healed. As the stepped into the corridor, Calodan continued speaking on the pair's previous topic.

Brennon nodded, it wasn't a bad idea of course, it may even glean some useful knowledge. However, he did have his concerns.

"Take a deeper look at it, Jim, but be careful. We don't know anything about this technology. What's worse, it's temporal in nature and the last thing I want is a call from Temporal Investigations after I file my report with Command. Keep me updated on your progress."

"Yes sir, the Temporal Investigations agents don't have a lot in the way of a sense of humor. I will be very cautious and limit my investigations to simulations, I do not want to endanger the ship. If it is alright with you sir, I'd like to head to my quarters and catch a quick sonic shower and a fresh uniform before going on duty."
