stardate 54162.7

**ACTION**

The USS Conquest sits docked at the Alterran station along an upper pylon, while the sleek and new Archer hid low and in a special bay of the attached shipyard designed specifically to house her from prying eyes. Docking was a smooth operation and when the final connections were made and pressurized, various senior staff members moved through the Hannibal class just get a glimpse of the latest in Starfleet technology. Talbert appeared particularly fascinated with her and spent the better part of a day greeting and drilling Lt. Commander Osaka and the engineering team on her specifications and handling.

Meanwhile, Admiral Croft appears oblivious to the new patrol ship, and spends much of his time interrogating the Regent, Lenara and Captain Marek on the specs and capabilities of the station and its technology. It seemed he could get no fill of the knowledge, and continues the questioning for the two days that they awaited the Hartington. At last that day came, and the massive Ambassador class slid into port, docking on a lower pad opposite the Sovereign class Conquest.

****MEETING IN OPERATIONS CENTER: ALL TASKFORCE PLAYER CHARACTERS PRESENT PLEASE*****

Commander Talbert stepped forward and raised his hands for silence. "Ladies and Gentlemen, distinguished guests, friends. This is a moment we have all been waiting for. I for one am very proud of the hard work that you and all the Guardian crew did to prepare this station for today, and I know that Captain Marek shares this sentiment." He nods to the Captain as the room resounds in applause. Raising his hands for silence, he continues.

"We are especially grateful to have Admiral Croft joining us from Starfleet Command, along with our Fleet Commander, Captain David Brennon of the Hartington. We have a couple of formalities to go through, such as identifying new station personnel and ranks, so without further ado, and in order to properly christen this station, I would like to call Captain Brennon forward." As the bearded officer stepped up, Talbert stood to attention.

"Captain Brennon, as acting Station Commander, I present to you the newest addition to the United Federation of Planets, designation Deep Space 27. Welcome aboard, sir." Talbert steps back from the small polycarbonate podium, giving Brennon room and waits for his command.

Lillian stood in the back of the large group. Snce being assigned she was unsure of what to expect. For the past few years she was used to being with a small team. This was something new all together. She nodded at friendly faces, then turned to listen to talbert speak.

Uvek stepped through, wedging his way past a slim female ensign in order to move forward get closer to the captain. Despite the vast number of Starfleet officers and brass present, there were also Myosians and Uvek knew little about them. As Chief of Security, and a former assassin himself, he wasn't about to leave the Captain of his ship exposed in an unfamiliar environment. As Brennon moved to take his place at the podium, the Romulan's eyes carefully scanned the crowd, his mind on the events he himself put into motion through past acts of espionage, even though the chances of such an event were slim.

Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

The Guardian's Chief of Engineering/2nd Officer stood at the far end of the room from the entrance. He had been working on tweaking some of the command interfaces to make them more human friendly when the meeting group started gathering.

As Talbert spoke, you could see his pride in his team's work in getting the station ready for its crew. He clapped enthusiastically to The Commander's statements and was enjoying watching the large crowd react.

Mehv spoke softly making small talk with a newly arrived cadet. "Brennon is a good captain, we're lucky to have him out here." Pausing for a moment in thought, "In fact, Marek and Talbert are also mighty fine officers. I don't think we'd survive out here if is wasn't for them. They've shown their worth many times over and I am lucky enough to have worked with all three of them."

Lt. Grolik
DS 27 Alterran Station

Lieutenant Grolik, an average sized Denobulan, paced around the room trying to find an open area to stand in, squeezing between several officers wearing all different shades of colored uniforms. As much as he hated the close contact with everyone else -- as all Denobulans do -- he made his way until he found a comfortable spot to stand.

The station's chief engineer crossed his arms in front of him and smiled big as Commander Talbert spoke to the crew and then turned to Captain Brennon as he was introduced. He had never met Brennon before, just had read some of the Starfleet files on the captain of the Hartington.

The Denobulan was eager to get to work and start learning about his new home. It was bound to be much different than being engineer aboard a starship.

Commander Qech
DS 27 station

Qech was more than relieved to be back on duty, and especially glad to be out of sickbay. Looking at the same four walls had truly tested her ability to sit still for long periods of time; a test she had failed miserably, much to Dr. Kiv's frustration.

It was nice to be able to get off the Hartington for a little while as well. Some of her crew mates had been aching for some new scenery since their last shore leave, and she was starting to sympathize.

As Captain Brennon moved to make his speech, the First Officer took the opportunity to scan around the room at the many new faces. It was nothing short of a sea of possibility and promise, and she found herself hoping to be able to make acquaintances with as many of them as possible.

She met the eyes of a few of them as they too looked around at their fellow Starfleeters, and she offered a nod and a warm smile as a way of breaking the ice. By her very nature Qech was a people person, and this environment suited her just fine.

Reahil'ea Zeara
DS Station 27

Sitting at a table surrounded by the faces of the crew from the Hartington she smiled as she thought about those she would miss with her new posting. The words of Captain faded from her ears as she looked around the room at all the new faces she'd be working with.

seems so strange to think that I wont be serving on a ship now... she thought to herself as she let her mind wander.

Aynslie VanQuax
DS Station 27

Keeping her eye on the crowd and all the new faces, she couldn't help but feel nervous with so many commanding officers in one room. She stood with her back to the wall near the door where she could the whole room with little change to the line of sight. She'd stationed her security crew at all the key points in the room to be sure that every angle was covered in case something terrible should happen.

just keep your eyes open Ayns... she told herself.

CPO T. Smith
DS 27

Smith listened intently while Captain Brennon opened the station officially. It had been only a day since his promotion to Chief of Station Security, and he wanted to hit the ground running.

Smith saw Lt.(jg) Aynslie VanQuax the new security officer (and assumably someone he would report to in some capacity) and gave her a courteous nod. Once done with the niceties, Smith got back to the business at hand.

Admiral Thomas Croft stood just off to the right of Captain Brennon as he prepared to address the assembly. He watched the group of Starfleet personnel with interest, observing each member for a moment, watching as they feel out new crew members. From the outside, Croft appeared to be completely aware and in the moment. Even the Betazoid Diplomatic officer would have a difficult time reading the thoughts broiling just below the surface. Croft glanced at each commanding officer in turn, his mind going over his myriad of schemes in motion at this time. They are fine officers, it will be a pity if one or all becomes a martyr

Captain Marek stood just to the left of Brennon, his hands clasp behind his back. He surveyed the group, his mind going back to his first assignment, remembering an assemblage of different species and ranks just such as this. It was a fine day, and it was with no small semblance of pride that he looked at his crew. He only hoped he got to meet his new XO in this less than official capacity, to break the ice as humans would say.

Ando Osaka wandered through the crowd, his ever companion Titus Decker following at his side. They laughed as an ensign bumped into Osaka, turned beet red, mumbling an apology and scurrying away.
"We used to be that nervous, I miss those days." Ando smiled to his friend.
"I don't. I like pushing Ensign's around." Titus smirked, then punched Ando in the shoulder, "Unfortunately you outrank me now so I can't push you around anymore, at least not on duty.

Xavier Croft wandered through the crowd until he found the person he was looking for. He walked up to Reahil'ea Zeara, offering his hand,
"Congratulations on the new assignment, may success bless your every endeavor." He smiled warmly, the blessing his mother used to give making a momentary bittersweet feeling flood through him, and causing him to glance at his father instinctively. He knew he would have to deal with him sooner or later, but first he had to say goodbye to his friend.

Daniels stood to one side of Ensign Liilian Rayle. Hmmm, he thought, she's kinda cute, and fresh meat, too! He edged closer to her, listening to Commander Talbert spout off about pride and such and so forth, his mind fixed on his opening line. Leaning slightly over the communications officer whispers "Welcome aboard, ensign, my name is Stephen, maybe when all this brass is over, we could get a drink."

There was applause as Captain Brennon made his way to the podium, but it wasn't loud enough to stifle the frosty response Rayle shot the bearded ensign. A drink was certainly out of the question.......

********
Doctor Skyna watched Croft long and hard. His bitterness for the higher ranks rose in him as his mind played back the scenarios of ignored complaints and reports he had made to Starfleet Command about personnel being abandoned on outer posts. Some sick joke put him here, on the cusp of unexplored space, he was sure. Well, he had a few things to say to Talbert, and maybe he'd be heading home with Croft after all.

Jonathan Adams
Deep Space 27

The tall man walked around the room and scoped out those he knew would be answering to him as the new XO of the USS Guardian with the departure of Talbert. He didn't know too many of them yet and more than likely didn't know him yet, no better time to see them in a relaxed atmostphere.

He move his head slowly side to side, there was the Orion pilot standing next to the security officer, there was the second officer and the operations and chief engineer.

Adams -- young for his rank after starting his career at the young age of 15 -- stood tall as he turned his attention to Captain Brennon, to his left was his new commanding officer, Captain Marek.

====================

Lt. Taarak
Deep Space 27

The Orion stood next to VanQuax, anxious to get back to work, get back to flying. He hated being in meetings like this one, in a cramped little room. Taarak moved in closer to the security chief. "How bout we skip this party and go to the holodeck. I feel like kicking someones butt in a battle simulation." Taarak whispered with a slight laugh afterwards. "You might be able to put up a good fight."

Taarak had heard rumors of a state-of-the-art ship at the station that he would love to get his hands on for a spin around the area for a while. Maybe I'll ask Captain Brennon if I can take it out after the meeting, Taarak thought to himself.

Captain David Brennon
Deep Space 27

Captain David Brennon may have looked calm, but he felt as though his insides were tied up in a knot. Stepping forward, Brennon looked out at the crowd, thoughts of murder on his mind as he passed the Station Commander. Quelling the urge to commit a court marshal offense, the Captain opened his mouth and began to speak.

"Commander Talbert, thank you. I've never been very good at this kind of thing, so I'm going to make this short and to the point. To the crews of the Hartington and Guardian, well done so far friends. We've covered a lot of ground these past few months, made a lot of new friends and seen many things that have never been seen by our people before. But the job isn't over with yet. To the crew of the Station, you are joining a magnificent adventure, one that will test you. The Gamma Quadrant is the wilderness folks, and you're a newly established fort. Don't be afraid to call in the cavalry. To each and every one of you, thank you for everything you do. Let's keep it up everyone. Now, I'd like to yield the floor to Captain Marek and then to Admiral Croft."

Brennon stepped back next to his First Officer, allowing his fellow Captain the chance to address the crowd.

Commander Qech
Deep Space 27

Qech finished her applause and went back to her standard straight-backed, yet somehow relaxed stance. As he took his place by her side once again, she leaned over slightly to speak to him.

"Very succinct, Sir. I know how much you love making speeches." She smiled, and turned her attention to the podium for the next speaker.

Brennon grumbled something about a demotion and plasma conduits as he stoically took his place at her side and leveled his eyes on the other Captain.

Marek nodded to Brennon, then stepped forward, his eyes scanning the crowd,
"While I must agree with Captain Brennon's assessment, if I was a stirring orator I would have joined government, I will share a few thoughts. Today marks the beginning of a new era in the Federations expansion into the Gamma Quadrant. Many of us that have become friends and comrades now embark on new and divergent adventures. This is the way of Starfleet. Embrace your new assignments and responsibilities, and treasure the time we had with one another. As long as we are all true to ourselves, our mission will succeed." Marek turns to Croft, motioning for him to take the floor.

OOC I'll post the second half later today.
