(OOC sonofabitch... I fell so far behind that I appologize for any interaction with my characters that went unreturned. I've been working two jobs the last two months and haven't had much free time.... I am working on catching up now)

*ACTION*

STARDATE: 54168.1 - OPS CENTER

Two days have passed since the meeting with Admiral Croft. Since then, The Conquest has departed leaving a wake of uncertainty and concern behind it. However, with the station coming to life, diplomats and traders arriving by the droves, and the Federation now setting up regular supply runs, the station personnel had no time to dwell on the negative. Talbert and Osaka found themselves swamped in the daily activity and the station began to find its pulse.

The Hartington and Guardian departed shortly after Croft, heading back to their own adventures, secure in the knowledge that a base would be available to them from now on. A comforting thought, to be sure.

Ensign Rayle, manning her post on the main Communications array, was very busy and loving every minute of it. Ship after ship flowed in and out, docking and leaving with fluid regularity. On the second evening, she turned to Talbert, sitting in his Command chair on the Observation deck and said:

"Commander, the Ju'Tau delegation has arrived and is requesting permission to dock."

Talbert looked up from his talk with Osaka and nodded. "Hmmm? Ok, Ensign, push 'em into Docking Station 4. Have them met and escorted to the Ops center when they are ready. Make sure Lt. Zeara is here."

As she turned to comply, a red flashing signal caught her attention.

"Commander! I'm receiving a planetary distress call. Near as I can tell, it is a planet nearly 6 light years from here."

Talbert stood sharply. "ONSCREEN." He ordered. Appearing before him on the station's massive main viewer was a slim, almost skeletal man in a white uni-garment. His skin was bright orange, with white wisps of hair above small round ears, pulled back into what appeared to be a bun. His face was long and thin, his eyes large and round.

"Please," he began in earnest, his voice obviously stressed to cracking. "Please help us! I am Doctor Dorvun, Chief Scientist and First Citizen of Frieka. It has been stolen, it's gone! You must help us!"

Commander Talbert raised his hand...."Calm yourself doctor. How can we help?"

"There's no time to explain! We must not waste time!" As if to punctuate his words, the room he is in violently shakes. Others are seen behind Dorvun running to and fro, adjusting equipment and pushing buttons, apparently to no avail. "Do you see? It has already begun! If you don't come now, millions of lives will be lost!"

Talbert looks to Osaka. "Looks like you're on, Commander." He said. "I've got my own fish to fry." To the screen he said "All right, Doctor, we've got some people in the area, we'll see how we can help. Ensign Rayle...Contact the Hartington and Guardian...see if they can reroute." Looking at Osaka he says: "When it rains, it pours."

(OOC: OUR SECONDARY STORYLINE WILL DEAL WITH THE JU'TAU...zeara and Smith and Rayle...PLEASE REPORT THERE).........

A tone emerges into Drake Skyna's consciousness.

"Doctor skyna, report to the Archer immediately! Doctor Skyna, please report to the Archer at once."

He rolls out of bed, his mind fuzzy with the remnants of his morphine haze dulling his senses. Reaching automatically for his bed-side hypo, he sprays tri-ox compound into his arm and stands unevenly. Get a grip, he thinks. The compound clears his head and gives his blood the boost it needs to energize him. Moving through the room it suddenly dawns on him what the call meant. Talbert wasn't kidding. Despite his personal demons, the commander meant to push him into service.

Cursing under his breath he heads to the door then, almost as an after thought, he pauses. Looking that the hypo in his hand he waivers, hesitating. At last he tosses it back into his room onto the bed and passes through the door, the medical officer in him rising to the fore.

In order to further acquaint herself with the station Zeara had taken to slowly walking the hallways of the station, creating a mental map of the layout that could prove useful should disaster strike.

always be prepared for anything Rea, you never know when it'll drop in... her mother's words rang in her head. It was something she'd never understood as a child, but had come to understand through the years.

As she found herself nearing the ops station, she felt a shift in the energies of those inside.

"something's gone wrong..." she said to herself and stood a moment to try and feel it out. When the level of urgency faded, and her combadge remained silent she took a deep breath and continued about her way knowing that soon the Ju'Tau would be docking.

Lt. Grolik
Deep Space 27

The chief engineer stepped aboard the Archer, the amazing new sleek vessel of the Federation assigned to its newest space station. Carrying his engineering kit he steps up to Commander Osaka.

"Commander, I know you didn't call for me, but as the chief engineer I insist on being here for the Archer's first real mission. You never know if something is going to go wrong her first time out," the Denobulan smiled big. "Plus, those calling us for help may need an extra set of hands for repairs."

Grolik stood straight at attention, still holding his engineering tool kit in front of the Commander.

Character: Lieutenant Solana
Location: Main Bridge, USS Archer

Lieutenant Solana sat at the science console, calebrating the main sensor network while she downloaded what information the Alterran computer had on the planet Frieka. She turned as the Station's Denobulan Engineer entered the Bridge, her brow raised slightly as he spoke. Solana had not been comfortable around the more emotionally inclined races and Denobulans fit that bill precisely. However, working aboard various Starfleet vessels and stations had increased her resiliency to nigh Kolinahr levels.

"Commander Osaka, the Archer's computer systems are having a difficult time interfacing with the Station's database. As a result the data transfer is taking longer than expected. We may not be fully prepared by the desired launch time."

Lt. Grolik
Bridge, USS Archer

The Denobulan chief engineer, still wearing his smile stepped forward to Lt. Solana. "Maybe I can be of service ma'am. I've spent a couple of hours researching the station's database. It's quite a bit more sophisticated than our technology, but I may have a few tricks up my sleeve to get the computers talking to one another a little better."

Grolik glanced at Solana's console. "If all else fails, we'll give her a swift kick and then maybe it'll work better."

Osaka laughed at the Denebulan, then turned to Solana, who didn't understand the laughter, "The best you can do, Lt., and I authorize a kick if you think it will help. I would welcome your help Chief." Ando turned to the Ops officer, "Notify Commander Talbert we will need a few minutes, maybe we will luck out and someone will be late." Osaka brought up a systems status report, noting that medical had not checked in yet. It was almost ten minutes before the download completed, at which point Ando was getting a little frustrated. "Helm, take us out, as soon as we are clear set a course for Freika, warp 9." As the ship began disembarking procedures, Ando turned back to Solana, "We will need to work with the Regent when we return to improve data transfer rates. Once you have the data compiled and processed I would like a report on everything we know on this new species."

Osaka turns to the Chief Engineer, "Mr. Grolik, if you could monitor the warp drive, we haven't had a chance to go over since we made the mad dash to the station. I don't want to attempt maximum warp until we are sure she can take it."

Skyna moved onto the bridge after checking out his new sickbay. As expected it was sparse and functional, but little more. As he crossed the relatively small bridge he nodded to the Denobulan officer standing by a vulcan.

"Commander, Lt. Skyna reporting for duty."

Solana quirked a brow and shook her head ever-so slightly as she worked at the problem at hand.

"Aye. Commander."

She was about to respond to the Denobulan when, thankfully, Osaka stepped in and gave the man a task of his own. She sighed This may be a long tour. Several minutes passed as the computer received the data on the alien world from the station's computer. She gave the information a read over and then turned to her Commanding Officer.

"Commander, I have the requested information."

Lt. Grolik
USS Archer
Bridge

"I would be pleased to, Sir," Grolik acknowledged the first officer. "I'm heading down to engineering then to monitor the warp drive down there."

Grolik nodded to Osaka and then departed through the turbolift doors. "Um, Lt. Solana didn't say a whole lot in there. Gotta get that Vulcan to crack a smile one time. That's my goal." He said as the turbolift shuttled him to engineering.

Osaka turns to Skyna standing and offering a hand, "Welcome, Doctor. Hopefully we won't need your services, but we don't have much information from Frieka, you may be needed on the surface."

"Commander, I have the requested information."

The Commander turns to Solana, "Excellent, Lt. Solana, report."

Solana tapped a few controls and the display above her console lit up to show the planet in distress.

"The planet Frieka is an advanced industrial planet with 3 large population centers on 2 main continents. The planets population seems to number about 230 million concentrated in numerous suburban enclaves around and in the three largest cities.

"The population seems to derive its energy from geothermic production. The atmosphere is pristine, almost perfectly balanced with excellent foliage growth and large farms and crops. The waters are very clean, even the oceans, which are teeming with life.

"There is no evidence that Frieka has any warp propulsion or warp vehicles of any kind, though they obviously have subspace communications at the very least. There are several satellites in orbit, but they all appear to be directed at the planet and to be scientific in nature, with the possible exception of those who serve as communication.

"I have detected one thing of particular note in the process of long range scans. The planet's magnetosphere is undergoing a powerful fluctuation. Geomagnetic shifts are occurring, which is sending shockwaves and earthquakes around the planet. There appear to be unusually large magnetic metal plates just under the surface. What purpose they serve is a mystery at the moment, but they are all aligned to point at the North pole of the planet, which appears to be shifting slightly southward at a slow but unstable rate.

"It is my hypothesis that the shifting of these plates is what is causing the fluctuations in the magnetosphere, though at this time I am unsure how to address the issue short of a planetary evacuation. I will require some the to study the planet up close in order to glean anything more."
