REPORTING AS: ENSIGN DANIELS:

Daniels watched his board light up. He looked over his shoulder while pressing his earpiece tighter against his head.

"Captain, distress signal! It appears to be a planetary distress call approximately 6 lightyears away, heading 167 mark 61." A few adjustments later: "DS-27 is asking us to respond. Seems things are going downhill pretty fast for those folks, the Archer is on its way!"

Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian
Bridge

the Orion flight chief quickly punched in the coordinates onto his console and turned his chair halfway to face the captain. He almost knew what the captain would order and had decide to punch in the command and was holding a finger steady above the engage button on the control panel.

"Course is laid in, ready on your mark, Captain." Taarak said, glad he was back in his own seat. Much more comfortable than that captains seat in the center of the bridge.

Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Adams
Bridge
USS Guardian

Adams entered through the turbolifts just as the ops officer had relayed the message to Captain Marek. Wow, non-stop action around here, Adams was enjoying his new assignment already.

His tour of the ship revealed a top-notch vessel that had a proud crew. Adams nodded to Taarak and Daniels and then took his seat next to the Captain.

USS Guardian, Bridge
Captain Marek

Marek noted the arrival of his first officer as he spoke, "Helm, best speed, engage." He turned to Ops, "Ensign Lenara, I want everything we know about that planet in ten minutes." Lenara nodded, her fingers flying over the console. Marek turned to Adams, "Well Mr. Adams, so much for that survey mission."

Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Adams

USS Guardian

The human/Bajoran man shrugged slightly as he sat in his chair and worked the arm console. "Such is life aboard a vesssel, Sir. I don't think I've ever had a normal day aboard a starship."

Adams glanced around the bridge quickly at each crew member he could catch with just a quick looked and then closed the chair console.

USS Guardian - Main Engineering
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

As the new orders came down, "Everyone on their toes. Keep an eye our for any problems. Roe, I want you watching the reaction flow. I don't trust the new programming yet. There are people in trouble so let's get there in one piece to help them out."

They had been planning on running at lower warp to verify the new upgrades. The crew shifted in duties, while the thrum of of the warp drive increased as the ship changed course.

USS Guardian
Main Engineering

Chief Roe grumbled, "Yes sir." He made his way over to a console, typing rapidly.

USS Guardian
Bridge

Lenara tapped a command on the console, "Captain we are approaching the edge of the Frieka system. Long range sensors are detecting significant seismic shifts in the planets crust." She pauses for a moment, "I am detecting some kind of subsurface mineral layer, but until we are closer I won't be able to give you anymore information."

Marek nods, then speaks, "What do we know about the Frieka?"

"They are a humanoid species, pre-warp industrialized society. There are approximately 230 million humanoids on the planet. The atmosphere and ocean appear to be very clean for an industrial society, very little pollutants can be detected. I am reading multiple orbital satellites, but no vessels."

"Acknowledged, helm bring us out of warp, one half impulse. Daniels, hail the planet, all frequencies."

Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian
Bridge

Taarak tapped on the console and looked at the viewscreen as the Guardian moved out of warp speed and approached Frieka. "Reading half impulse, Sir."

It looked like a hostile planet to Taarak, something was sitting right with the Orion. Something was off as he starred at the planet on the viewscreen while also maneuvering the vessel at half impulse.

Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Adams
USS Guardian
Bridge

The tall first officer climbed out of his seat and briskly walked up to Daniel's station at ops. Adams looked over Daniels shoulder as he opened hailing frequencies.

Adams didn't say anything, just over looked the ops/communication officer with his hands clasped behind his back and dark blond hair slightly skewed out of place. It was just out of habit that Adams was looking over the officers so closely. As XO aboard the Guardian, Adams wanted to know as much as possible and the crew and what they did.

Daniels wasn't one for protocol, though his forte' was communications protocols. He paused a moment. With Adams breathing down his neck, he felt more claustrophobic than before. His finger hovered over the button. Looking up at his new first officer, he took a leap of faith.

"Begging your pardon, sir" he said as meekly as possible, "Shouldn't we alert the fleet commander we are here, and patch into his communication with the planet?"

He almost cringed, waiting for Talbert-izing.

Lt. Jonathan Adams
USS Guardian
Bridge

The Guardian's new first officer unclasped his hands and place one hand on Daniels shoulder. "Nice catch, Mr. Daniels," Adams said making a quick glance at the captain and nodded slightly. "Contact the fleet commander, inform him that we are here."

Adams was sure he scared Daniels slightly with how tense he felt and looking over his shoulder. The first officer then slowly moved back to his chair and took a seat next to the captain again, hoping that he handn't overstepped any lines. "If we don't hear from the fleet commander, then proceed with the Captain's orders."

Adams had a gut feeling the captain had left that part of his orders out on purpose as a way to test his new first officer on protocol, but with Marek being a Vulcan, he wasn't sure. It was one of the few races that Adams couldn't figure out all the time.

OOC you'll likely need to cross post that hail on the Hartington thread.

Marek watched the interchange between Adams and Daniels, resisting the urge to raise his eyebrow. While he fully intended to contact the Fleet Commander after he had a full report, he was not going to undermine his new XO, his actions were not against protocol. Marek stood, approaching the viewscreen,
"Put the planet on-screen, maximum magnification." Within moments the viewscreen had shifted to a view of the planet. At this magnification everything was blurred, but the atmosphere had a greenish tinge, and appeared inviting to Marek.

Lenara spoke,
"Captain, I believe that the subterranean mineral deposits are artificial. They appear to line up with the Northern pole of the planet. It may have something to do with the seismic shifts, although I would need more data to be sure."
