Captain Brennon nodded and made his way back over towards the command chair.

"Very well. Mr. Uvek, contact the Archer and relay our suggestions. Advise Commander Osaka that we'll be on station in case he needs us. Encrypt the message and copy to Captain Marek. Once the message is relayed and confirmed go to Condition Blue and activate the cloak."

Character: Ambassador Rolen
Location: Deck 8 Crew Lounge "The Team Room", USS Hartington

"Sit down ambassador, please. You said the Dominion would have no interest in the satellite. And while you may not be as frequently updated as before, you still know the Dominion better than anyone else here."

"We found traces of Dominion warp signatures at the site. Can you think of any reason why that may be?"

Rolen shook his head, his hair falling out of place ever-so slightly to cover the crests of his alien ears. His violet eyes passed between the two officers as he spoke, his voice carried with it a hint of dread.

"Commander, your attempts at flatter while impressive are unnecessary. I've sworn to aid you in times such as these and I am a man of my word. I do not know why you are detecting Dominion signatures. I do know this: If it was the Jem'Hadar, that planet would no longer be habitable. If we had desired their technology, it would have been taken by force and had they resisted they would have been eliminated. The Dominion is not involved here."

He sighed and bridged his fingers on the table in front of him, still looking between the two women as he continued.

"I suppose it is possible for someone to have disguised their warp trail or to have made their ship to look like a Jem'Hadar fighter, perhaps to have even stolen one as your people have done in the past... though such incidents are rare so close to our territory. Any such theft would have been earned swift retaliation."

If we had desired their technology, it would have been taken by force and had they resisted they would have been eliminated. The Dominion is not involved here."

Qech leaned back, an amused smile on her face. "Rolen, I asked you to sit down because, in all honesty, my back is killing me. When have you ever known me to flatter? As for the Dominion, I was not drawing any direct conclusions. This case makes too little sense to go from point A to point B. In fact, there were Federation warp signatures present at the site as well, so your suggestion about theft is actually very sound."

She stood up, and held out her hand. "Either way, I've heard what I wanted to hear. Knowing that you will support the Hartington's mission, whatever the Dominion's involvement, if any, is as 'good as gold'-to coin an old Earth expression. I trust then, should the worst happen, you will aid us in preventing this from coming to blows."

As she stood with her hand extended, she projected a thought to Lioy:

He is a man of his word. That's been tried and tested. The trick is getting him to make the right promises...

"Aye sir." replied the Romulan. He reached in and tapped the message personally, sending it forth in the latest high-security encryption.

"Message sent, Sir. Moving to cloak." The lights all over the ship shifted to an eerie red hue as the power harmonized with the cloak's output.

"Cloaked, captain. Tactical scans remain clear."

Aria moved forward to shake Rolen's hand as well. "It's a pleasure meeting you," she told him. "Thank you for being so forthright. And I hope if you do think of any reason for the Dominion to become involved...or any other situation in the Gamma Quadrant which could be pertinent, you'll let us know."

She followed the commander out the door, waiting until the Vorta was out of earshot before answering Qech's nonverbal comment.

"Has he helped you against the Dominion before?" she asked, twitching an eyebrow in surprise. "That seems...un-Vorta like. Or was I reading the subtext wrong? It sounded like he was chiding you for not trusting him."

"Has he helped you against the Dominion before? That seems...un-Vorta like. Or was I reading the subtext wrong? It sounded like he was chiding you for not trusting him."

"It had nothing to do with the Dominion, no" Qech replied as they made their way back down the corridor. Her voice became slightly solemn. "Rolen was with Uvek and me when we were taken prisoner by the Tal'Harton. It happened a couple months ago, but after the incident I learned a lot more about him than I ever expected to. He was going to activate the self-termination implant that all vorta have. Apparently they're expected to kill themselves upon capture to protect Dominion secrets. And for some reason, I was able to talk him out of it."

Qech stopped when they reached the turbo lift and turned to face the Lieutenant. "If the idea of killing himself did not bother him, at least a little, he would have done it. No amount of coercion on my part would have changed his mind. But he didn't. They beat him nearly to death, and he still did not do it... I think he was afraid."

She stood in silence for a moment, thinking on her own words. She hadn't really considered it before... where her new-found respect for the Vorta had truly come from.

"He surprised me that day. That's all. He promised he wouldn't activate the implant, and despite everything they did to him, he kept that promise. He was very brave. And if I couldn't put my prejudiced for the Vorta behind me after seeing that... Well, I was never going to."

Qech stepped in to the turbo lift.

"Bridge."

As the lift hummed to life, the Trill tried not to think of the rest of the time they had spent with the Tal'Harton. At least one good thing came of it after all she thought.

Qech stood in troubled thought as the turbolift pulsed its way upwards. Aria watched her, feeling the pain ripple through the woman's mind.

Clearly, this Tal'Harton incident had been a trial. Aria remembered what Calodan had said about the Commander having trouble opening up. Aria would never get her to discuss her problems if she went about things too formally. Perhaps this accidental conversation provided an opportunity...

Keep her talking. The Betazoid considered what to say, something that wouldn't sound too counselor-like. Maybe if she kept it impersonal, asked about the situation. After all, that's how they'd tumbled into this topic in the first place.

"Were you prisoners long?" she asked.

"Were you prisoners long?"

Qech bit her lip, considering the question. "I'm not sure how long we were there, actually. It felt a lot longer than it was, of course. Maybe a few days." She looked to the Lieutenant. "Diplomacy with the Tal'Harton isn't going to be easy. They're zealots, and they're fond of pain for some reason. He said they revered it."

A surge of anger washed through the Commander as the image of Sann appeared fresh in her mind. Then her thoughts went back to that room. The gas, the exam table, and the conscious realization of being operated on while she was awake.

Eventually she came back to where she was, and decided she did not want to go back. It was not a subject she enjoyed, especially when her mind was supposed to be on the mission at hand.

"There's a ship log entry about them at any rate, if you wish to do some studying. It may be a good idea in fact."

(OOC: JUST FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES, IT MAY BE GOOD TO CHECK THE STATION MAIN STORYLINE. WE HAVE MOVED THE STORY AHEAD. I WILL POST CROSS-COMMUNICATION, BUT IT TAKES A LOT TO POST THE SAME ACTION ON THREE DIFFERENT THREADS, SO PLEASE GO THERE FOR A BIT OF INFORMATION!)

((OOC: Okay then Aria, from here on in, time stamp your posts until we finish this conversation/scene. Just add something like "3 days before the confrontation" at the top of your post. I'll do the same.))

((OOC: Okay. I'll check in soon. But I'm enjoying this conversation, so I'm going to keep going for the moment.))

"That must have been very hard," Aria said, ignoring the other woman's attempt to shut the conversation down. She kept her voice compassionate, though, and musing...as if she wasn't aware that she was treading on dangerous ground. The wash of fury that came when Qech even mentioned the Tal'Harton almost rocked the Betazoid off her feet. Aria had to fight to avoid showing she'd felt it.

"Diplomacy with them will be difficult," she went on, still in that soft tone. "Especially given what happened." She took a silent breath, and took the plunge. "Do you think you'll be able to face them again?"

Commander Qech
3 Days before the Confrontation

"Diplomacy with them will be difficult, especially given what happened... Do you think you'll be able to face them again?"

Qech had been wondering that same thing. She knew the rage, maybe even hatred she felt was beneath her, but she couldn't shut the feelings out, no matter how hard she tried. She was the First Officer of a Federation vessel. Her behavior regarding other civilizations should not be allowed to be tainted by personal experiences. She did not have that luxury. But if she saw them again...Could she face them?

"I don't know" she said quietly. "I hope so."

"There's no shame in feeling anger at them," Aria said. "You've been through an ordeal. Of course there's a reaction to that."

Qech sighed. "I-"

As the turbo lift doors opened, she sighed again, this time with relief. She knew where this was going, and now was not the time for a psych evaluation from the Counselor. "We'll need to make our report to the Captain" she said as she made her way toward his ready room.

The ship was already cloaked and underway, and they found him on the bridge instead. "Reporting, Captain."

((OOC: BLAST! FOILED AGAIN!!))

Aria Lioy
3 days before poopy fan

Aria had to smile, a wry twist, as the First Officer strode away from her. like a dog from a vacuum cleaner. Perhaps she'd pushed too hard too fast. Still, she'd gotten a conversation started and that was something. More could wait.

She stopped a little behind the commander, in silent support, as she spoke to the Captain.

((Btw, I don't know if Trek still uses vacuum cleaners...but they always have clean floors, so if they don't...what DO they use??))
