Osaka watched as his design team bickered over several details on the starship class they had agreed upon. Admiral Croft's timeline was ridiculous, to say the least. They had competed enough design specs to begin construction on the space frame, using recycled borg materials, and the help of the Regent's androids. Still, with construction underway and robots assembling twenty four hours a day, it would be at least a month behind the Admiral's requested completion date. And that didn't account for any design hurdles, which there were currently dozens. He looked up as a rather brilliant but blunt Lt. raised his voice.
"But that will overload the plasma flow conduits! We need greater diameter transfer conduit!"
Ando held up his hands, trying to maintain some sense of order,
"Calm down, we can use the same diameter for the primary flow and run a secondary conduit on deck 12 next to the main deflector conduits." He could see everyone relax a little as they realized it could work, and several hands began flying over their consoles. Ando grabbed his raktijino, drinking deeply. He was getting by on about four hours sleep, this particular meeting was happening at five in the morning before his Ops duty shift. If I survive this, it will be a record for design and construction _________________

Talbert walked into the main hangar and watched the activity with a mix of curiousity and grim acceptance. This is ridiculous. He thought. Still, they all had a job to do.
He walked up to Osaka, beckoning to get the man's attention. "Sorry to bother you, Commander." He said, PADD in hand, "But something's come up." He handed the PADD to Osaka.
"Starfleet wants the Archer on Force Protection patrols. We need to schedule a routine pass around the nebula and surrounding space, and make contact with Panthanael IV to set up escort services for their more sensitive cargoes. It seems we still have the Nekrali to deal with, if not the Tal'harton at the moment. Command wants to make sure our new allies know that we're in this for the long haul." He smiled sheepishly. "Sorry Ando, but I gotta add to the load a bit." _________________

Ando glanced at the PADD, then back at Talbert,
"No problem, sir, nothing I can't handle." He looks at the group, "Concentrate on propulsion while I'm gone, there's no real headaches there. The Regent can fill in the few gaps." He stands, looking back to Talbert, " How often do we need to make the patrol? Or is this just a moment of pomp and circumstance?" _________________

(OOC: Sorry - lost this in the shuffle!)
Talbert shook his head. "No pomp, Ando," he replied evenly. "This is straight up displays of force and protection. We need a routine patrol on a regular basis, at your discretion. My gut says once a week on a rotating schedule so it doesn't become common knowledge. Also, we need to achieve some kind of diplomacy with the Ju'Tau and help them arrange for a shipment of Dilithium from the outer rim of their system. That is a priority straight from Starfleet."
He walked around the bay, looking with envy and hunger at the new ship assigned to him. "I'd love to take her out, Commander, so maybe we can schedule something when the station's a full charge." He smiled, "Of course, she's still yours to command." _________________

Osaka smiled wryly, "You act like I might consider refusing, sir." He laughs, "She's yours when you want her, just name a time and place. You can have the first patrol if you like." He pulls up a PADD, checking it, "We should be able to do the first pass in three days, we can assist the Ju'Tau then return to what will become the standard patrol after that." He tapped a few notes, then looked up at Talbert, the Commander being rather taller than he was, "How are you holding up, sir? It's been quite the ride already, and it hasn't even been a full month." _________________

"How are you holding up, sir? It's been quite the ride already, and it hasn't even been a full month."
Talbert leaned against a pallet of polycarbonate boxes shaking his head. "You know Commander, the only thing that saved our necks, aside from the quick actions of Chief Smith, was the fact that you had taken the Archer out to help the Frieka."
He looked down at his boots. "I feel like a darn fool. I could have lost the station and everything on it through a stupid command decision. An experienced captain would never have let the Ju'Tau on the Ops deck." _________________
