For all those who wish to make donations to the Sim for various services including web hosting please post up a message here. You will be contacted with the information on how to make a donation once you've made your intentions known.

In your response to this message please state how much you're interested in donating and for what cause it is for.

I think I'd need some idea of the need here. I have a website for church purposes that piggybacks a friend of mine who does computer consulting work, and he pays 8.00 a month for the server.

I'd be glad to pay that amount if that is what you need. Or, are we looking for compensation for Lt. Calodan personally? I have no problems if he is, just want to know at what level we are talking.

Im not looking for any compensation and can host a lot more load then I currently am running, so its no worry.

I think our current goals should be to secure a domain name for at least a year.
Namecheap sells domain names for $10ish/yr. If we have a domain name, it can be setup to run off of my hosting for as long as we need to do that.

Hosting also can be had for about $4/mo for what we are using. With that, we could run the forums and the SMS with no problems.

I can handle that very easily. I think about 4.00 per month per player is something between the 7 of us would be pretty good and would go a long way to handling any needs.

Of course if we get less than that, let me know.

We'll go the distance.

On the topic of donations and a new site:

I am willing to pay for the first 3 months of the new hosting right off the bat, and then donate regularly if others are willing to pitch in too.

Hosting that would suit our needs perfectly is about $4 /month. This means a whole year comes to $48.

If we can get 3 other people willing to donate $12 to the cause, we could have hosting for a full year taken care of.

As for any support on hosting, I work for a hosting company and volunteer to be head techie and web gizmo guy.

After chatting with the Captain, we've chosen a host that comes to $44/yr.

So far, we have people willing to donate to go for it. The more that are willing to chip in, the cheaper it becomes.

1 - $44 per person
2 - $22 per person
3 - $14.67 per person
4 - $11 per person
5 - $8.80 per person
6 - $7.34 per person
7 - $6.29 per person
8 - $5.50 per person

As you can see, the more people that chip in...the easier it becomes on everyone.

Once we get the hosting going (and the name of the next Sim pegged down) I'd like to look into getting two more domain names also: One for Task Force Gamma and one for the new Sim. This way we can run an independent SMS or Nova site for the individual Sims as well as a site for the Task Force and look spiffy while we do it. I've purchased the Hartington domain name myself, these next ones I'd like to share the wealth a little if it isn't too much trouble.

Thoughts on this one?
