It's come to my attention that there is, from time to time, a little confusion on how to address certain members of the crew because of unusual ranks, grades or positions aboard ship. This thread is here to help alleviate some of that confusion.

Superior Officer to you- Always referred to by rank or appropriate gender description ("Sir""Ma'am"). (eg. "Ensign Random reporting as ordered, Lieutenant Calodan.")

Officer of equal rank to you- Always referred to by rank.

Officer lower in rank to you- May be referred to either by rank or as appropriate gender description ("Mister""Miss" etc.).

Enlisted Personnel speaking to any Officer- Always referred to by rank or appropriate gender description ("Sir""Ma'am").

Officer speaking to a Non-Commissioned Officer (Petty Officer Third Class and up)- May be referred to as Crewman, Petty Officer, Job Title (Security Specialist, Science Specialist, etc) or appropriate gender description ("Mister""Miss")

Officer speaking to an Enlisted Crewman- May be referred to as Crewman, Job Title or appropriate gender description.

Officer Speaking to a "Chief" (Any NCO or Warrant Officer rank with the term Chief in it)- My be referred to as Chief or appropriate gender description.

NOTE- First name basis are allowed at the discretion of the person being spoken to. Remember, it's still impolite to call the Captain (or any other superior) by his/her first name during any official function.

If I've missed anything please let me know and I'll add it to the list. I'm not an expert of such things so if you feel I've erred in any way then we'll talk about it. This thread will remain open for questions and comments.

Despite being Neuter, Ázmay has no problems being referred to as 'Sir'.

E wouldn't object to being called 'Madam' either, so do what your character would do.

So are cadets addressed any differently? Would a lower ranking cadet address a higher ranking cadet as sir, or because none are technically officers that doesn't apply?
