At this time we're going to start talking about who wants to take command of the next Sim. I will offer my services and act as First Officer to help out our new Captain, but obviously I'd like to share the command wealth.
Ideally, I'd like the player who takes charge of this next Sim to not be a member of the Task Force Staff, but if one of our staffers wants to throw his or her name into the ring it will be considered.
Prior experience is NOT necessary, however you must have some sort of idea of what type of story should be told in the Sim, as well as being a dedicated player.
To be considered for Command please answer the following:
In your opinion, what is the role of the Commanding Officer of a Simulation both in character and out?
Please present us with at least two story seeds. This is so we know that you have a plan for the game.
Thank you in advance your your interest and you will be notified when a decision has been reached. This thread will remain open for discussion until Monday, October 05, 2009. _________________

I know, I know, I always jump in. I'm sorry, but in my job I have a lot of computer access......and, I trust my gut so I'm more of a hip shooter than most. But, having said that, I rarely regret shooting.

1) The role of any manager in any capacity is first and foremost to support his/her team. A leader leads, he doesn't always tell others where to go. He must be able to understand all that is required of his team, and then believe he can get there with them. A good administrator is not strong in everything, but he/she is strong in the team assembled, and he/she knows how to rely on the experience and expertise and advice of that team, while drawing a line and holding the course.
2) A good commander knows when to step in (and out) of a given situation and allow events to transpire with or without his/her guidance. They are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of team members, and must be willing to mentor, teach, and correct weaker members, while rewarding those who participate and produce.
3) A good commander will drive the story. Be at least as active as his most active player, and able to step in to adjust the story, while being flexible him/herself to the ever changing scenarios. Outline, not line by line, is the role of a Simulation leader. (think Dungeon Master)....
story seeds PM'd ====== OK, MCTAVISH? Don't call me names anymore, you are making my ears droop in sorrow.....LOL _________________

Let me post separately by telling you personally, despite my desire and excitement, I do think Lt. Calodan or Commander Qech would be EXCELLENT LEADERS for the new sim, and I think they have certainly earned their stripes (or pips)! _________________

To be honest, I don't mind either way. Both have advantages and disadvantages. PM has the ability to be secret about who wants it and that no one can "copy" answers from another player while on the thread has the chance to allow everyone to evaluate, and possibly see for themselves if they'd like to give a shot.
As I said, either way is fine by me. _________________

LOL, sure did points.
I agree there are pros and cons to open and closed posts. I just think the seeds should be original and not influenced by someones post before hand. (Once we get started thats a whole other matter)

I appreciate the nod Uvekmark (Or perhaps Points is a more fitting name Lieutenant JG?) but right now, I am up to my spots in development on stargazer. Until I get it done to a point that I am comfortable with, my free time is being spent on it. _________________

I'm just getting caught up, but I think there is one problem (or your more conniving than I though) any story ideas would have to link to the mission of said ship/simm. That being said, and I want Croft to move up, he's still only a LT, so I think the logical choice is Qech or Calodan. Calodan said he's too busy, but I think in the time it would take to get all the ducks in a row he could do it (we still have narrowed down a class and name totally). Otherwise someone can have a whole new character (which works, but as active as I want to be in this simm, I think two characters is going to be enough). Anywho, I guess I'm saying I want first dibs at number three. hehehe _________________

HEY< You guys can/should/must develop new characters for the new simm! Don't be held back by what you have here! IN FACT I hope we keep what we have here and keep it going!
and if anyone calls me points in the main story the ship is going down!!!!!
I MEAN IT! I'll have you scrubbing waste reclamation units with an oscillating enamel rejuvenator for weeks!

I expect it's at this point the captain turns around and says:
"DO YOU WANT ME TO TURN THIS STARSHIP AROUND?! CUZ, SO HELP ME I'LL DO IT!" _________________

OK OK I see the point, I just think that having half a dozen characters on the same login could get confusing. I'm open to more, just to live by KISS(keep it simple stupid) _________________
