Subj: Patient Record, Petty Officer First Class Koester, 121st JCSS.
Notes: Patient is recovering from the after effects of a Houdini antipersonnel mine that exploded on a security patrol.
Patient seemed quite despondent until he received a visitor. The visitor was Master Chief Petty Officer Nikolai Koester, retired. The patient's father had a Terran canid, of the German Shepherd breed, a puppy about eight weeks old with him.
After his father's visit and after a talk I allowed the patient to retain the canid which he named Max. The dog seemed to help brighten the spirit of not only this patient but others in the ward as well... |

personal aside (uvek attachment to this submission):
I have read a number of personnel files, in particular those of the security and marine contingent, in preparation for boarding the Hartington upon its return for repairs. I am convinced that distance and time on a starship play a significant role in what on earth is termed "cabin fever". Particularly in combat veterans and those trained for physical interaction (such as security personnel).
The inter-racial nature of this ship is rife for idle hands to be a dangerous thing. Therefore, I am preparing a regimen of training for tactical combat operations. In conjunction with Major Ludwigson programs, these training sessions will not focus on weapons. They will focus on the body, the mind, the instincts. I will begin focusing our troops on hand-to-hand combat. Special training such as martial arts, excercise, and the return to basics.
My particular function will be shipboard tactical preparation, along with away mission security. I intend to keep our forces razor sharp, and too tired to cause "mischief" on board. I believe this will help many veteran members of this force to deal with the trauma of post-action service.

I suppose my training in Sambo should be useful. I have in my posession a few holodeck programs that simulate training in the Russian wilderness, where my ancestors taught fighting for generations.
Respectfully,
Koester, Petty Officer 1st Class

I fully anticipate your involvement, leadership, and cooperation.
This will be a challenge, providing training and focus for more than 80 military and security personnel. However, there are sufficient levels of experience on board to satisfy this need.
