Just a bit off there.

$3.95*12 = $47.40

Just a bit more then $4 Razz

In regards to that, I think we should be looking for a domain name first. That is about $10 through namecheap. I am willing to float us on my webserver for as long as we need to. I have a lot of space and bandwidth that is not being used.

Okay, here comes the interweb illiterate guy for a question.

If I pick up the domain name, what is the next step? $10.00 isn't that much and I'll front that seeing as this game is a labor of love for me. After I get the name, what is the next step?

You could go ahead and set that up as a URL Frame to http://www.dumpsterdivinggeek.com/hartington

In 12-24 hours we could then use that to get to the SMS.

You could also setup a subdomain to forward to the current forums if you'd like.

The Captain stares blankly at his Second Officer, dazed and confused

Did I ever mention that I hate computers? The whole reason we had a wetpaint site before is because I had no conception how to do any of this. So... let's take it step by step and please forgive me.

Alright, it would depend on who you buy the domain name through.

I have had the best experience with Namecheap.com. They aren't as famous as Godaddy, but have been easier to work with by a long shot.

After you've purchased it and have it in your account, you would want to look the "Host Management" section and click "All Host Records". You would then want to set both the WWW and the @ to URL Frame (using the Record Type dropdown) and IP address/URL to http://www.dumpsterdivinggeek.com/hartington

To setup the subdomain, you would (on the same page) add a subdomain of forums, the IP address/url to the forums url, and then set the record type to URL Forward.

These changes typically take 12-24 hours to propagate through the global DNS.

okay... so I filled out the application on the new site... probably more than I should have, but I got carried away..... though i think I listed my title wrong, I wasn't paying attention to the drop down menu! Would help if I limit how many pages I'm working on at one time.... have to remember that! Rolling Eyes

Get to it when you can my friend, have a good evening.

Let me just remind everyone, you don't have to fill out the whole sheet right now. All of the bio information can be added later, all I need from you at this point is your character's name, post, species and sex. We'll take care of the rest later.

I'd like those crewmen who have not made signed up on the website to please do so, if only to get your characters listed on the roster.

The following crewmen have not registered on the website:

Petty Officer Third Class Theodore Smith
Crewman Recruit Mikal Trimbo
Cadet Fourth Class Garrett Walters

Remember, when you register on the site you need not put in EVERYTHING about your character. At the time of registration you only need to put in your character's name, rank, race and position. No history needed at this time.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by big move.

I am putting together more and more of the website as the days go by. I should be able to get us our domain name by Friday (payday is Thursday) and hopefully we can get the site and forum transferred to the new domain by this time next week. I would like everyone's opinion on the setup and layout of the site. Tell me what you think we may need to add, info wise and what you would like to see.

Also, remember that before you can ever be considered for a promotion you will need to have a full character profile listed on the website. For those of you with profiles on the old wetpaint site I suggest you do some copy paste magic. Everyone else may want to do some writing.

Do you consider my profile adequate, or should I flesh out the service record further?
