"Yes Captain."

As the Guardian closed into weapons range, Roekil's 3 fingered hands tapdanced across the tactical console. The ship's phasers lanced out and struck at the Nekrali, followed by a volley of quantum torpedos. The small ships shuddered under the impacts, but turned their attention from the Tal'Harton to attack the Guardian.

"Sir, our weapons seem to have little effect on their shields. The vessels are using some form of phased polaron shielding."

Captain Marek

The ship shuddered as the Nekrali raiders returned fire. Marek watched the viewscreen impassively.
"Mr. Fontaine, evasive action."

"Shields are currently holding Captain." Polaron shielding?!? Think Thomas think "Captain I may be able to disable their shields using the main deflector, the last report from the Hartington suggests a strategy but it will take some time to find the correct frequency."

Marek stood, "Make it so, Lt. Mr. Roekil, keep firing perhaps photon torpedoes will be more effective." The ship shuddered under another barrage of weapons fire.

"Captain, shields at 83%." A brief pause, "Captain, firing Hyperon pulse."

On screen, the ships are enveloped in an orange glow that seemed to have little effect visually. Another volley of weapons fire strikes the ship, this time the shudder is more pronounced. "Lt. Thomas report!"

"The Nekrali shields have dropped by one third, adjusting frequency, pairing with a graviton pulse." Thomas' fingers flew across the console, then a beeping can be heard. "Captain, two more vessels are approaching at high warp, eta 8 minutes. Firing second pulse."

On screen, the ships are enveloped in another orange glow. They fire one last pulse at the Guardian, then jump to warp.

Marek sits in the command chair, "Hail the disabled vessel, Lt. Thomas. Mr. Roekil, I want a tactical analysis on the approaching vessels."

Guardian's sensors reached out through the black, probing the approaching vessels. "Sir, the approaching ships are Tal'Harton. They have shields up and weapons powered. We're at a disadvantage against the both of them sir. I suggest backing away and performing a fighting retreat if they follow us."

"Sir, the approaching ships are Tal'Harton. They have shields up and weapons powered. We're at a disadvantage against the both of them sir. I suggest backing away and performing a fighting retreat if they follow us." Marek turns to his tactical officer, "Thank you Mr. Roekil, I will take your suggestion under consideration." Marek turns to Thomas, "Open a channel to the approaching vessels."

Thomas tapped the console, "Captain, they are hailing us." She tapped a few buttons and the viewscreen switched to a serpentine looking face.

"You have violated Tal'Harton space and have attacked one of our vessels. Surrender now and prepare to be transferred to a re-education facility or your ship will be destroyed."

Before Marek could respond the screen went blank. He turned to Thomas, "Lt. Thomas, open that hailing frequency please." There is a brief moments pause, then she nods to Marek.
"Tal'Harton vessels, this is Captain Marek of the United Federation of Planets. We came in response to the distress call of your sister ship. We found it under attack by Nekrali raiders, and engaged them to assist your ship. We had no ill intent towards your vessel, please respond."

Thomas looped the message several times, but they were obviously not in a talkative mood. "Captain, no response, ETA now 3 minutes."

Marek turned to the helmsman. "Mr. Fontaine, set course for the Tigris, maximum warp. Engage." The ship turned onto it's new heading and began to accelerate but never jumped to warp.

Fontaine began to panic, tapping the console harriedly. "Captain, I can't generate a stable warp field there's some kind of interference!"

Marek turned to his tactical officer, "Mr. Roekil, next time I ignore your advice remind me of this moment," He turned back to the view screen. "Red Alert, all hands to battle stations! Prepare to be engaged!"

"Yes sir. I have a firing solution on the main Tal'Harton vessel. Awaiting orders."

Roekil had armed a barrage of quantum torpedoes and had the phasers charged and ready. The Tal'Harton wouldn't get to attack his ship and escape unscathed.

Marek turned to his tactical officer, "Wait until we are engaged, it does not appear to matter at this point but I would prefer not to start the hostilities."

"Captain, they are altering course to match our new heading, they just dropped out of warp. Weapons range in thirty seconds." Thomas tapped the console, "I'm diverting auxillary power to aft shields."

Marek walked over to Fontaine, placing a hand on his shoulder, "Mr. Fontaine, maintain course, best speed, until we are engaged, then I want you to take evasive action." Marek tried for his most soothing tone, as the helmsman seemed on the verge of a panic attack. Marek moved over to the command chair and took a seat, just before Lieutenant Thomas spoke.

"Captain, incoming! Multiple vectors!" The ship lurched as the first weapons burst hits the aft shields.

With the first strikes on the aft shields, Roekil unleased a barrage of torpedos and phaser strikes on the lead Tal'Harton vessel. The weapons bounced almost harmlessly off the vessels strong forward shields..exactly as planned.

The vessel, emboldened by the seemingly ineffectual weapons on its prey, closed onto the aft port quarter of the Guardian. This is what Roekil was waiting for. He tapped a control and unleashed the full fury of the Guardian's port phaser banks as well as a barrage of 4 quantum torpedos directly into the Tal'Harton ships shields. The vessel was not prepared for the energy that these weapons produces and its shields buckled, then failed altogether. It quickly veered off of its attack course and fell behind the second vessel.

"One of the attackers is disabled Captain."

Marek felt a wild moment of glee at the incapacitation of the Tal'Harton vessel before he quelled it with his Vulcan training. "Excellent work, Commander." The ship bucked as the second vessel scored a direct hit.

"Aft shields at 40%, engineering reports the disabled Tal'Harton vessel is causing the disruption of our warp field."

"Mr. Fontaine, hard about, set a collision course for the second vessel, veer to port on my order. Commander, when I order Mr. Fontaine to veer, hit them with everything you've got." The ship bucked as they were hit again, on screen the starfield shifts radically and then the Tal'Harton vessel comes into view, rapidly growing larger as they close in."

Marek brings up the sensor readout on his console, watching the distance readings. He waits till the last possible moment, then, "Now Mr. Fontaine!" On screen, the disturbingly close Tal'Harton vessel begins to move to the side.

Roekil fired the ships weapons, crimson lances shooting through the void and slamming into the weakly protected Tal'Harton vessel. A trio of quantum torpedoes, blazing blue as they slammed into the ship's unprotected hull, detonated in a tight burst, splitting the ship into two pieces.

"Tal'Harton vessel destroyed sir!"

"Good work Commander, " Marek turns to Fontaine, "Any luck with the warp field?"

Fontaine taps his console, "The explosion from the last ship has disrupted the dampening field, engaging warp drive!" The ship jumps to warp, and everyone begins to relax for a moment, until there is a shudder in the ship and all hell breaks loose. The ship bucks hard sending Marek to the deck. The science console explodes, sending the Ensign manning it flying. Lt. Thomas manages to keep from flying out of her seat, but Fontaine is hurtled over his console.

Thomas grabs her console as the ship keeps shuddering, using one hand to check the status, "Hull breach on deck 17! Navigational Deflector has failed! We need to drop out of warp before we hit something!" She glances over at the empty helm chair, then quickly reroutes helm control to her console, within moments she is able to shutdown the warp core. As the ship decelerates, another shudder runs through the ship and main power fails. It's a full five seconds before emergency power kicks in.

Marek sits up on one arm, everything had a tinge of green. Marek wiped the blood from his eyes, then tapped his combadge. "Marek to Engineering, report." A stream of static hisses in response, then it goes dead. He turns to Thomas. "Lt. can you tell me anymore about what happened?"

Thomas' fingers were flying across the console, error tones coming up every few seconds. "It appears the Navigational Deflector was damaged in the battle, the stress of traveling at warp caused a power overload that blew clear through the hull. I think the explosive decompression combined with the loss of the Graviton field caused all the rest of the damage. I'll have to go to Engineering to find out more."

USS Guardian - Main Engineering

After the jump to warp, Mehv sees the power output of the main reactor increase dramatically. The rise is too fast for him to do anything about it. (Computer)"Warning anti-matter manifold pressure at criti..." The audible warning never finishes as the reactor shuts down completely. An explosion from across the room scatters a few crewmen and a coolent leak from a line starts spewing thick smoke throughout Engineering.

"Lock down that line," he yells as he runs a diagnostic routine. Everything seems to be functional, what caused the shutdown? Reading though some readouts, he finds the cause. "Ensign Kuplo to bridge." ... nothing. The EPS line feeding the main deflector and power to the fore of the ship is severely damaged. Wishing the chief was here, he decides to spring into action.

"You, you, you and you, head to deck 17, bring environmental suits, go repair the EPS conduit at section 348. Then work on the hull breach." As he pointed out the crew he was talking to, he hoped they would listen. There was too much disorder. He grabs a nearby crewmen. "Get another and attend to the wounded, we may not have a medic here for a while." Pulling over a third engineer, "We are going to work on restarting the main core. We were not in warp for long enough for us to escape danger." As engineering get organized systems start coming back online.
