Location: Main Bridge, USS Hartington

Several moments pass after Lieutenant Calodan called for the Chief Engineer's advice with nothing but silence on the other side. Just as Calodan was about to call for Ghan again the gruff Tellarite responded.

"... rrrr... you're not making any friends, Lieutenant. I was dreaming of the mud wallows of the Gnasel Woods... What's this you say about the manifolds in a nebula?"

Sounds of Ghan rummaging around what was presumably his quarters followed, soon there after by the beeping of a PADD. He grunted a few time and snorted once before his actual voice came back to the comm.

"Well, it's a bit juvenile. I'd bet my commission that a third year engineering cadet on their training cruise aboard the Republic could figure out just about the same thing... but it'll do. You won't be harming anything this time. Ghan out."

Across the Bridge, Lieutenant Solana looks down towards Calodan's position.

"Charming."

"Charming."

"Lt. Ghan has his own way of paying compliments. That was high praise coming from him." He tapped a few commands on the console.

"Alright Commander. We're ready to implement this shield configuration on your command. I sent the necessary specifications to tactical and Ensign Ulog at Ops. I can monitor the changes from here as well as monitoring the impulse manifolds from here."

Koester headed to the security office after he tapped his comm badge: "Koester to Smith: please head to the Security Office to meet with Lieutenant Uvek ASAP."

Koester headed into the security office and said: "Sir. Reporting as ordered..."

Qech nodded. "Go ahead, Lieutenant" she said, then turned her attention once again to the helm. "Ensign, once the modifications have been made, slow ahead if you please... Ensign Ulog, please repeat our hails as we get closer to the ship and be ready to receive any possible incoming transmissions. Lieutenant Solara, be ready to gather your information quickly, I don't want to tax the systems any longer than necessary."

Uvek nodded to the Petty Officer. "Take it easy, Karl." He replied weith surprising informality.

"There's really not much happening right now. Calodan just sent specs on a new process they will try on the impulse engines, I think. Other than that, we don't have a lot to do. I mostly wanted to see you just to ensure you are all right. Our last session in the dojo was a little...distracted. What's got you out of sync?"

Calodan monitored the impulse engine manifold temperatures. His modification seemed to be working nicely. It was pushing the gas aside, allowing far less of it to interact with the manifold.

"Commander, if we keep it under 1/8th impulse we should be in fine shape. The shield modification is properly shunting aside the the nebular gases enough that the impulse manifold is able to properly purge itself. It seems that Commander Tucker has managed to save the day again."

He paused, and turned to look towards the big chair. "Commander, during my research the computer made note of the fact that one of your previous hosts, a Selara Qech served on a NX class. You never mentioned it before. I believe, that would have been well before the Trill's symbiosis became widely known?"

Qech nodded, relieved that things were going smoothly. "You heard him Ensign. Slow and steady."

Qech laughed a little, the memories of the voyage resurfacing in her mind. "An interesting story to be sure. Remind me to share it with you sometime. I'll say this much however, she was made of some pretty strong stuff that woman. Didn't take no for an answer."

ACTION

All stations report ready as the Hartington continues to move deeper into the nebula. Slowly, the ship creeps towards the image of interest that drew then in, not unlike a spider drawing its prey into the web. Like the poor soul that is caught in the web, the crew of the Hartington were unaware that anything was happening. Slowly, tachyons began to build up around the ship, almost unnoticed by the shipboard sensors until a silent alarm went off in Lieutenant Solana's mind.

"Commander Qech," she spoke up, "I believe I've found something out of place..."

Qech was not able to make it over to the Science Station in time however.

The ship bucked upwards, not powerful enough to knock anyone to the deck, only just enough for the sudden impulse latch onto something to shoot through the mind. When Qech looked around the Bridge, she noticed the viewscreen offline and the crew frantically working at their consoles to ascertain what had happened.

Ensign Ulog, who had in the short amount of time made his way over to the Engineering Station, called out to Qech. The youthful Tellarite's voice was nervous -- understandable considering the last few encounters the ship undergone.

"Whatever that was, it knocked out sensors. It'll take a few minutes to get them up and running."

Solana looked towards the Commander, urgency in her eyes as Qech surveyed the bridge. Her Vulcan nature restrained her however, and she waited for the Commander to come to her.

"Ensign," Calodan said to Ulog, "Try rerouting through the navigational sensors. That should give us some idea of what is going on out there."

The young Ensign did as ordered and the sensors started returning fuzzy images of the nebula around them. "Proximity sensors report clear Commander. If nothing else, we didn't run into anything. Besides that, sensors are showing nothing but static." Calodan began working with Ensign Ulog to reroute and get sensors back online. Unfortunately, there wasn't any indication of damage...the sensors had just shut themselves down.

Catching her balance quickly, Qech continued her way to the science station where Solana stood waiting. She could hear Ensign Ulog's gruff voice at Ops.

"Whatever that was, it knocked out sensors. It'll take a few minutes to get them up and running."

...followed by Calodan's swift report:

"Proximity sensors report clear Commander. If nothing else, we didn't run into anything. Besides that, sensors are showing nothing but static."

Qech looked to Solana as she rounded the science console. Even for a Vulcan, there was an sense of urgency about her that put the Commander ill-at-ease. "Any explanation for this, Lieutenant?"

"Frankly sir. Recent encounters with those Cardassians and the fact that we still have one of them onboard at the moment." Koester replied: "And I'm certain Counselor Zeara has informed you of my assignment to delve into the past. To remember Andi before the Cardassians killed her. Thinking of her has been quite painful of late as its reopened old wounds."

Koester went over to a computer and called up a video. It was a stolen video feed from a Cardassian security camera. It showed the female cell block of the artificial wormhole project. A Cardassian Glinn was interrogating a female prisoner held by two Cardassian soldiers. He suddenly struck her in the stomach very hard. The female prisoners rioted. The Cardassian soldiers waded among the unarmed female prisoners with riot gear swinging truncheons.

"Andi died in that riot sir. That Glinn was responsible. I killed him when he and a scouting party found themselves on Dantana. His entire patrol of twelve were victims of my crosshairs. I made sure he was last to die and most painfully. He got gut shot first and I heard him screaming as a native predator of Dantana dragged him into the brush to finish my work." Koester replied: "Altogether on Dantana I sent two hundred and seventy two Cardassians to their graves. The rage I felt for them killing Andi was tempered by my control and discipline to kill as many of the damned Spoonheads as possible when I was marooned on Dantana as a lone sniper."

"Counselor Zeara's request that I look at good times that have long since past and the future that Andi and I had planned that is now never to exist has left me a tad disturbed of late." Koester replied.

Uvek watched the video with concern. That would do it, he thought. Somehow, he had to work on pulling Koester out of the reverie. He was necessary to the ship, and this thought trend could be detrimental in the long run.....

The ship bucked upwards, not powerful enough to knock anyone to the deck, only just enough for the sudden impulse latch onto something to shoot through the mind.

"What the...?" Uvek jumped up to his feet and slapped his combadge. "Uvek to bridge, what is happening?" Without waiting for an answer, he lept to the door and headed to the turbolift. "Mr. Koester, you're with me!" he called out, his mind envisioning the worst, and grateful the Petty Officer had taken his precautionary steps.

(OOC: With that movement wouldn't the ship go to red alert automatically?)

((OOC: Not necessarily. We didn't hit anything, didn't take on any damage. We're not being fired upon, or even under enemy threat, as far as we know so far. Red Alert is the highest level of alert, typically when an attack by an enemy seems imminent. It's reserved for the worst case scenario. Calling a Red Alert when the sensors are offline is just a quick way to freak people out... But who knows what our crafty Storyteller has in store for us. I'm sure the calm won't keep lol.))

Qech had just finished asking Solana the question when Uvek's voice piped over her combadge.

"Uvek to bridge, what is happening?"

Qech tapped her badge to respond, still looking at the Vulcan.

"Standby, Lieutenant."

"Any explanation for this, Lieutenant?"

Lieutenant Solana quietly took in a breath, she clearly did not like what she was going to report, but it was her duty. Reluctantly, she began to speak.

"Not necessarily an explanation, Commander, only an observation. Moments before the ship was shaken, sensors detected a buildup of tachyon particles. Tachyons, as you may be aware, are a common denominator in every known form of time travel."

Ensign Ulog stuttered as he called out a report form the Bridge Engineering Station. His porcine features had begun to blanch as Solana mentioned time travel.

"Commander, sensors are coming back online."

Lieutenant Solana tapped at her station without having to be ordered and brought up the ship's forward view. Gone was the nebula that had dominated their view moments before. It had been replaced by the familiar starscape seen so often out of the viewer.

"Commander," started Solana, her Vulcan calm threatening to break as she examined the data before her. "We have traveled nearly four light years from our previous position. I am detecting residual tachyons on our hull, most likely from whatever caused our sudden travel."

A moment later, Ensign zh'Rel spoke up, confirming the Science Officer's report.

"Confirming position, Commander... I'm having a difficult time however, I think the astro-navigation sensors have been damaged... the stars don't appear to be in the correct position. However, I'm able to use the nebula as a point of reference. We have in fact moved 3.7 light years."

Before any further conversation on the topic was able to be had, the Captain's voice called over the comm.

"Commander, I think I've been patient enough... what was that shaking our ship? Whatever it was, it woke me out of a very sound sleep."

Qech had just enough time to register the startling readings when her combadge chirped.

"Commander, I think I've been patient enough... what was that shaking our ship? Whatever it was, it woke me out of a very sound sleep."

"We're just getting that information now, Sir... You might want to get up here."

Qech sighed, knowing for certain that any promise for sleep that evening had just been sucked out the nearest airlock. She tapped her combadge again, ready for a very long shift.

"Senior Officers report to the bridge."
