The blazing Dantana sun, the rocky terrain. None of it mattered for the man hiding underneath a growth of acacia-like trees. The TR-116 rifle was balanced perfectly in his hands as he lay on the rocky ground.

A native serpent of Dantana moved past him, slithering over the earth. The man didn't even blink. His crosshairs were centered on a Cardassian, a glinn leading a patrol of twenty men through a canyon.

He has no idea that the illurium deposits in the canyon play hell with his comm systems. the sniper thought as he regarded the Cardassians.

They were guards from an orbital facility using Starfleet and Klingon Prisoners of War as slave labor to construct and artificial wormhole. Because of that they had a death sentence attached to them and this man was its deliverer.

His crosshairs fell upon the glinn and within a nanosecond he knew the target was that glinn's stomach. A round through the viscera, especially the armor piercing/fragmenting incindiary combination he was using would be especially painful.

The round, known as the 'hotload' by Starfleet security personnel, was a TR-116 bullet designed to penetrate Borg armor with a tritanium cone. The body behind the bullet would fragment into pieces and upon contact with any organic fluids it would burn to a scalding 200 Celsius.

He let the breath out, slowly as he squeezed the trigger. He wasn't rushed, angry, or enraged. Just focused on sending a bullet into the viscera of the God damned spoonhead.

CRACK! The rifle bucked. Surprised him. The Cardassian fell onto the rocky ground, initially surprised, but now he started screaming bloody murder.

The nearest Cardassian soldier tried to reach over the heap of rocks to grab his officer and pull him to safety, only to have a smoking hole where the spoon-like ridge of his skull had been.

Another two Cardassians attempted to flee. Two shots were fired in rapid succession. The first was an instant fatality to the base of the neck. The second was a little low, hitting the pelvis and shattering it.

Karl Koester knew that the temperature was brutally hot. Cardassians liked hot temperatures, so they could wait longer. However if they even attempted to flee, attack, or rescue their wounded glinn, he'd kill them. That single mindedness kept him rooted to that spot. Rooted to where he was drawing down on his targets.

Another Cardassian yelled to rally his fellows to advance their position. The yell was truncated by a single round through the mouth.

Valor and cowardice, the Cardassian patrol learned, purchased equal plots on the sniper's killing field.

The wounded glinn attempted to crawl up the hill he'd fallen down to his fellows hiding behind the rocks. Another bullet shattered his left hip.

Koester could see movement beyond the Cardassians. This planet had some very nasty wildlife of the predatory variety. The dominant predator was a variety of sabre toothed felid, similar to that of the Terran variety of the same animal.

Time to let nature dispose of the unholy vermin known as Cardassians. He watched as the sabre tooth dragged the wounded Cardassian glinn away, to the horror of his troops. They knew not to even attempt to show more than a portion of their heads above the rocks, lest they find bullets in them.

The felid began to drag the wounded Cardassian some distance away and put him down. The Cardassian was screaming, trying to crawl away, hands up to ward off the predator.

The large cat was merely toying with its wounded dinner before the long scream was cut off by a wet ripping sound...

With that, Karl Koester quietly snuck away from his hiding place, back into the mountanous caves of Dantana...

I'M NOT THE ONLY COLD BLOODED KILLER HERE.

Thank goodness.

Nice line. You do know you have a Cardassian AND a Dominion representative on board, don't you? This will be an interesting collaboration.

Sir,

Of course. And I know that Cardassian necks are especially vulnerable to knife thrusts. A glinn that tried to kill me, but only scarred my right hand was the way I learned that fact.

R,

PO1 Koester, USS Hartington Master at Arms.

Not only are they vulnerable to knife thrusts, the Tal Shiar started their collaboration on the basis of the fact that, should anything go wrong, the Tal Shaya is a particularly effective technique, along with the disruptors.

Again, lieutenant, my weapon of choice is the TR-116 with the hotload round. It literally cooks Cardies internal organs from the inside out when it punctures the torso. An anti-Borg weapon proves useful against other species of scum.
