"What is going on?"

That was a question that Calodan didn't want to answer...time to use some of the perks of rank. "Cadet...is that any way to speak to a superior officer...and your mother?"

Taj looked abashed for only a moment before turning to his mother.

"Of course, Captain I apologize. I hadn't realized that you had returned to active duty."

To himself, the young Trill simply thought:

And here I thought this was a gathering of old friends...

"Yes, umm...err...it is a temporary return. I'm sorry I snapped at you Taj, it's been a stressful day. Shall we depart?"

Taj blinked for a moment, confused. But the grimace of confusion soon turned into a grin of comprehension as he turned back to Calodan.

"Not you, sir... Mom. Why, did you retire too? I thought you were still going to be at the Academy."

Qech listened to the exchange, letting out a low whistle as she shook her head.

That's my boy. Nothing gets past him.

The Doctor sighed. She knew her son well enough to be certain that he'd only be paying even more attention for the rest of the evening after all these slip-ups. He knew something was up, if not exactly what. And she was foolish to believe they'd ever expect all of their old friends to believe everything was as it should be.

She motioned to Jim and Aria, looking briefly over at Taj. "Hold on a second, honey... Antonio, we'll meet you on the shuttle."

Keeping her voice low, she pulled the two time-travelers aside.

"Alright, I think we've been going about this all wrong. Our friends will understand, and we know we can trust them to keep their mouths shut. Also, we're going to need all the help we can get in figuring out how to get you home. I say we tell them. And Taj, too. He obviously knows something is amiss anyway, and he's studying to be a science officer so he may be able to help. He's a bright kid. Think of the influences he's had all these years." She smiled at them. "But it's up to you."

"But it's up to you."

"The Temporal Prime Directive says to limit all exposure, but that really applies more for traveling into the past. At this point, Aria and I have seen our futures. I'm not sure how to apply the rules at this point."

He paused and looked over his shoulder at Taj, who was looking on with great interest. "And he definitely is too smart. Must come from his mother. I say we keep it quiet until we have some private time with the crew. Limit exposure to those outside of our little circle."

Davynn shrugged. "Even if the rules did clearly apply here I'm not sure it would matter if we weighed the pros and cons. The upside of not involving everyone else is limited exposure. The downside... well, your probably being stuck here. I think the latter would be worse for the time line."

"And he definitely is too smart. Must come from his mother. I say we keep it quiet until we have some private time with the crew. Limit exposure to those outside of our little circle."

Qech grinned. "I wasn't his only influence growing up, Jim, believe me. You spoiled him rotten. Aria, you didn't help with that lollipop stash. It's a wonder he wasn't 800 pounds."

She shook her head.

"And I think we'll have the best opportunity to quietly get the group together after the ceremony... Oh! That reminds me... You should know that this is not just a reunion, it's a celebration for the launch of the Hartington A, and its new Captain." She smiled. "Thankfully, he's one of our own. Be sure to give Croft your congratulations. The original Hartington is being decommissioned. So, think of it as a memorial service, anniversary and birthday all rolled into one."

She looked back toward the shuttle where Taj and Antonio were waiting patiently. They obviously decided to pass some time in conversation, because Taj wasn't looking their way anymore, save for a few curious glances.

"We should get going."

"The original Hartington is being decommissioned?" Calodan quickly closed his mouth. There was something off about this timeline...facts weren't adding up. Clearly, this was the future from the last timeframe he had been in...but he had watched the Hartington-A be destroyed. The original had to have been destroyed before that...

Aria nodded slowly. "You're probably right. I couldn't imagine how I was going to act like a woman with twenty plus years worth of experiences I haven't had. I mean, it's been five minutes, and people are suspicious already. They'll probably dig less if we tell them the truth.

She grinned wryly. "You mean we've already done our damage, so why bother? It has a certain existential charm."

Aria suffered a brief moment off shock as well, followed by chagrin. She should have known something was off. She'd asked Qech, after all, if she remembered them mentioning time travel. While under normal circumstances one incident might have been forgotten amidst many adventures, the fact that it had taken place during a major Borg battle probably would have left it etched in Qech's mind. However, it hadn't rung any bells. She should have realized right then that there was more going on than just time travel.

You're not a science officer she thought to herself. You're not used to having to piece these puzzles together. Maybe she shouldn't have known, at that.

She looked up at Calodan. "Alternate timeline?" she questioned.

"Alternate timeline?"

"It seems so. I just hope we didn't cause the timeline to fragment by changes we made in the last one." He knew Qech had to be extremely curious about what they were talking about...but he knew that he couldn't tell her. Hearing about how her ship had been torn to pieces by the Borg...not something anyone needed to hear.

"I think we need to get going, so we can try and solve this. Hopefully, if we put some old friend's heads together, we'll be able to figure out a solution to all of this."

At the mention of an alternate time line Qech raised an eyebrow, looking between Calodan and Lioy. "Alright, now that is something that falls under the temporal directive. So, I'm not going to ask. The less anyone knows about your misadventures the better."

"I think we need to get going, so we can try and solve this. Hopefully, if we put some old friend's heads together, we'll be able to figure out a solution to all of this."

Qech smiled and patted Calodan on the shoulder as she turned to head back to the shuttle. "In over 20 years Jim, you'll be happy to know, I've yet to come across a problem we couldn't solve together. Take that back to the past with you."

As they approached the shuttle, Taj stepped aside to let them board, eventually following the crew inside. Qech looked over at him as they sat down. "I'll explain later, Taj. I promise."

"You know, I'm not sure it was us," Aria said thoughtfully. "I mean, we didn't have time to do much in the last one. I can't think of anything much we changed." She cocked her head as Qech spoke. "You're right, though. I'll say no more about it."

The shuttlecraft skated into space, the blue sky growing darker and fading to black. Soon the stars of the Milky Way galaxy were twinkling all around them. Aria leaned back and enjoyed the show. She never got tired at looking at space. It was elegant in its sparseness, serene and beautiful to her. She could sit for hours and just contemplate that silver-studded night. A shuttlecraft's engines were efficient, however, and it seemed no time at all before the Hartington (the next generation) hove into view.

OOC Thought we were meeting on Luna?

Croft watched as the shuttlecraft cleared the airlock and slowly taxied to it's way to it's assigned parking place. As it approached, Croft felt a wave of unexpected emotions. He could identify most of the passengers on the vessel just by feel, but something was wrong. He could feel anxiety and confusion, which didn't seem to fit the situation. Shrugging it off as his own nerves, he smiled and waited for the shuttle to stop and release it's passengers.

OOC: We are on Luna. I think Aria just wasn't aware of that when she posted.

Qech was the first out of the shuttle when it docked, and grinned brightly when she saw Croft waiting to greet them. When he approached she drew him into a friendly hug like she had with Calodan.

"It's good to see you again old friend. And congratulations! At least we know the Hartington will be in good hands."

She could see the anxiety on his face, and knew that it wasn't simply his nerves alone. You didn't need to be an empath to pick up on the tension coming from the newly arrived group. And since Croft was an empath...

Qech sighed, deciding that they should probably let him in on Calodan and Lioy's predicament sooner rather than later, if only just to fill him in on where these negative emotions were coming from. She didn't want this day ruined for him because he came to some wrong conclusion.

"There's a sitting room over there. We can see the Ambassador's shuttle from the window. We all need to talk in private. Something strange has come up."

Calodan exited the shuttle in time to see Qech hugging a much older looking Croft. A much older Croft wearing Captain's pips.

"We all need to talk in private. Something strange has come up."

"That might be a good idea. Aria and I have some explaining to do."
