((OOC: Oops. Yeah, my bad on the location.))

Quote:
Aria and I have some explaining to do.

"You make it sound like we're going to get detention, or something." She shook her head and looked to Croft. "Oh. Congratulations on Captain, by the way," she said. If that was something she was supposed to already have known...well, they'd be explaining soon enough. She walked with the others into the sitting room. Once everyone was comfortable she turned to Calodan.

"Well, since you're my superior officer...and much more technically minded than I, I suggest you start. I'll chime in at dramatically significant moments."

((OOC: BTW, I have no idea whether the Academy has detentions or not...but I figured I'd just go with it.))

"Well, since you're my superior officer...and much more technically minded than I, I suggest you start. I'll chime in at dramatically significant moments."

Calodan leaned back in his chair and stretched. He seemed to have more aches then he remembered. "In its most base explanation, Aria and I have been skipping through time. Not in the normal sense where our bodies are physically transported to another point in time, but our consciousnesses seem to be transplanted into ourselves at future points. At this point, this is the second jump I remember, and from the looks on your faces and the information I've discovered it is in a different timeline then the last." He stretched again and let this sink in. This was a phenomenon that had never been reported by another Starfleet officer, at least not and reported. "The last thing I remember in my original time frame was around stardate 54287. We were in an ion storm with some odd chronometric readings. There was a surge and my console exploded. Next thing I knew..I was...4 years older."

He knew that his friends would believe him, no matter how incredulous the story was. It helped having Aria backing him up. He was really glad for her company right about now...he needed to remember to apologize for the stunt with the escape pod. He was sure she'd remember, even if no one else did. The silence in the room got a little to heavy for him so he turned to face a now very grown up Taj. "So Cadet, want to clue me in on your birthday? Back in my timeline I have a bit of a betting pool going on your due date and in my last jump your mom was a bit of a spoil sport and wouldn't give me a hint."

Croft returned the hug warmly, as Qech spoke

"It's good to see you again old friend. And congratulations! At least we know the Hartington will be in good hands."

Croft found himself nearly speechless mumbling a clumsy thanks as he pulled away.

"There's a sitting room over there. We can see the Ambassador's shuttle from the window. We all need to talk in private. Something strange has come up."

"By all means," He motioned for the others to follow, heading to the sitting room.

Croft rubbed his chin thoughtfully as the story was explained to him, leaving his many questions unspoken for the moment, "That's quite the predicament." He paused for a moment, "We could try to reproduce the exact situation, although if we need to be in the same exact location with a similar ion storm that might be a tall order." He thought back to the mentioned stardate, "Especially since that was during our Gamma Quadrant survey, even with Calodan's mighty slipstream drive it will take several days to get that distance from here."

Aria leaned forward. "Do you think it's possible, though?"

Croft smiled at Aria, "There should be records of the Hartington's sensor logs from that mission, I'm sure Jim can find a way to reproduce the conditions. And I just happen to be in command of a ship." He glanced at Jim, "How long has it been between jumps? We may need to try to tether you to this time long enough to be able to send you back to your time."

Taj listened carefully to everything that was being said and though it seemed to be far fetched, it was beyond reason for the Jim Calodan and Aria Lioy he knew to make something of this magnitude up.

"So Cadet, want to clue me in on your birthday? Back in my timeline I have a bit of a betting pool going on your due date and in my last jump your mom was a bit of a spoil sport and wouldn't give me a hint."

He was about to respond, mouth opening and forming the words when he caught sight of a glare from his mother that brought him up short.

"Sorry Sir, Captain's orders..."

He shrugged and smiled sheepishly before continuing, trying to wrap his brain around the whole scenario.

"So let me get this straight... where -- or rather when -- you come from, I haven't even been born yet? That is more than a little weird."

"We could try to reproduce the exact situation..."

"What about Professor Brennon? In the Ambassador's last letter to me he said something about her work in merging the Myosian's knowledge of those space lanes with Federation astrocartography. You said it was 54287, the Hartington was exploring grid 55439 on the far side of the Julant Expanse around that time, right? With the Tal'Harton's withdraw from that sector Starfleet's had an increased presence out that way. A friend of mine is a Junior Science Officer aboard the Gandhi -- and it just so happens they're laying down a network of mapping probes in that region. In fact I think it was part of the Ambassador's last mission in the GQ before heading this way. May want to bring it up to him when he gets here. If we're lucky they may have mapped out the area we're talking about already."

When the old betting pool was brought up, Qech looked directly at her son, stopping him in his tracks before he could say anything. She remembered the former second officer's little gamble with the clarity that only a joined Trill could experience. And she wasn't going to let him win.

"So let me get this straight... where -- or rather when -- you come from, I haven't even been born yet? That is more than a little weird."

"Wow. Aria only gave me a rough idea of when you're from. I didn't know it was that far back. And I have to agree with Taj, it's a little strange. For the record, Jim, Taj is in at least two of your classes. It would be exceedingly simple for you to get his birthday off your attendance roster... And I'm only telling you this because I want to see if you really would stoop to cheating. I think it would make it too easy for you." She grinned, a challenging look in her eye that Calodan would have been all too familiar with.

Then Taj spoke again:

"What about Professor Brennon? In the Ambassador's last letter to me he said something about her work in merging the Myosian's knowledge of those space lanes with Federation astrocartography. You said it was 54287, the Hartington was exploring grid 55439 on the far side of the Julant Expanse around that time, right? If we're lucky they may have mapped out the area we're talking about already."

She looked between Calodan and Aria. "Told you. He's quick." She smiled, looking now to Croft. "Well, you know Brennon would know better than anyone... Both of them would. You should probably know Jim, Aria, that David remarried. She's Myosian, so her knowledge will definitely come in handy. As a matter of fact, they should be arriving any minute."

Croft nods to Qech, "I agree, David should have a good idea, even if his idea is to ask Mrs. Brennon." He winks at Aria, then remembers that the last twenty years didn't exist for her, causing a slight frown to crease his brow for a moment. He turns as another shuttle taxis by, "I believe that is the Ambassador now."

Aria frowned. She hated not knowing what was going on, something Croft's joke only highlighted for her. It seemed, however, she had no choice but to accept it.

She listened intently to Taj's idea. Though she had no idea who the people were he was referring to, it sounded like progress to her, and that was a good thing. Taj, it seemed, was an admirable addition to their little group. Qech must be so proud.

But Croft had asked her a question. "We don't know if the jumps will be of equal timeframes," she said. "Because this is only the second time we've jumped. We were only in the interim time for..." she pursed her lips. "what do you think, Jim? Twenty minutes? It was a bit hard to tell...dramatic things were happening." She paused, thinking it over. "If that's the case, then that proves the jumps are not equal. Because we've already been in this timeline for longer than that."

"I think a tether would be a good idea if we can manage one," she finished with a wry smile. "I'd hate to jump and then have to explain all this all over again.

"I think a tether would be a good idea if we can manage one. I'd hate to jump and then have to explain all this all over again."

Qech thought about that statement for a moment. How many times are they going to have to explain this? Hopefully this will be the last.

"I've got to say that does sound more than a little annoying. But so far you've been lucky enough to end up wherever we seem to be, even this far in the future. That much at least is a good thing. So, hey, if it happens again just look me up. In all my lifetimes I can say I've experienced some pretty strange things. No matter the time, I'm bound to believe you, with very little in the way of explanation."

She thought about that for a moment, then added: "Well, I guess the time does matter, because if you show up when I'm still teething or something I may not have much to contribute." She gave a small smile. "But with luck, the pattern will hold and you'll be around your old crew... hopefully as adults. Well, most of us." She reached over to Taj and ruffled his hair slightly, a playful smile on her face.

Taj was about to reply when the doors to the waiting room and in stepped Ambassador David Brennon. He looked older than the last time any of his former shipmates -- those belonging to this time as well as those non-natives -- had seen him, but the smile on his face was real. No matter what had been going on in his life, this moment was one their former Captain was savoring.

"Well this is one hell of an assortment of disreputable characters. I must have stepped into the wrong waiting room, I was told I'd be met by an honor guard of Starfleet's finest... and this is what I've been sent? Things must have really gone down hill since I retired."

The Myosian woman standing next to the Ambassador gave him a sidelong glance as she smiled towards the others. These people had long ago become friends and knew Keeva well. Professor Brennon stepped away from her husband and over towards the assembly, greeting each of them warmly.

As his wife made the rounds, the former Captain looked around at his his once crew taking in the scene. After a moment he stepped over to Qech and leaned in.

"What's going on?"

(OOC: The part of Mrs. Brennon will be played by Alaina, as I think its a little off playing my own wife and I don't think the back and forth would feel real enough. That and I'm just not that imaginative!)

Character: Davynn Qech

"What's going on?"

Qech sighed, wondering where to begin. "Well, long story short we'll be damn lucky if we manage to avoid a visit from Temporal Investigations after today."

She paused just long enough to let her comment sink in, feeling slightly amused by his expression. It was probably the same expression she was wearing when Lioy filed her in: Oh no, not one of these. Yes, that was definitely what he was thinking too.

She didn't make him labor under his curiosity for long though, and plowed directly into the story, not bothering to keep her voice down. Everyone in the room was already, or would be in on it soon.

When she finished, she sat back in her chair, crossing her legs and sitting up straight in a deliberately exaggerated professional manner.

"So, now that everyone's here, we can get down to solving this little problem... And for God's sake, please don't tell Jim Taj's birthdate. He's snooping."

***

Character: Prof. Keeva Brennon

The story definitely caught Professor Brennon's attention. She stopped her rounds, just short of her greeting to Calodan, to listen to Qech's explanation. When the Trill finished speaking, Keeva whirled around to face Calodan and Lioy, a surprised smile on her face. She held out her hand in greeting.

"Well, strange as this is, I suppose that means we've never met. My name's Keeva, but I know yours already... So odd." He expression faded from surprise to mild curiosity as she studied their faces. The same people she had grown to know so well, except... Not.

"Well, what can we do to help?"

Croft found himself smiling and enjoying the moment, despite the situation that Jim and Aria were in. He grasped Keeva's hand when she greeted him and kissed it daintily, bring a slightly blush to her cheeks and making him laugh. He listened as Qech filled in David, and watched as Keeva introduced herself to old friends. *what an interesting situation*

"If you stay stable in this time-flow long enough, and we ran a few scans, we could examine for any temporal anomalies with similar quantum signatures to the area of space in which you first began to skip from time to time," Antonio said after a few moments of thought. "If we can at least get a baseline deviance for you, we have the chance to restore you to your proper place. We should still have access to the research and survey data from that point in the mission."

Croft walked over to the replicator as Coehlo spoke, replicating a raktijino, then wandered back to his seat, "Good idea, Tony, I think the first step is stabilizing their condition for the moment. If they jump to a time when none of us are still alive, they could have a difficult time explain their situation and being believed. Not to mention the paradox involved if they are no longer alive as well." He glanced at Aria as he spoke, unable to hide his feelings of loss from her, although he hid the source of the feelings behind a protective wall.
