"Walters, the damage to the aft of the Willamette is not focused. The alien ship either did not know where to hit us to do the most damage, couldn't get a lock on the Willamette, or both. The first major turbulence we encountered could have been due to these hits on the aft hull plating. They didn't penetrate to any of the ships subsystems."
"Hmmm, I have a hunch." Mehvra pulls a tricorder off the equipment table and runs some scans near the port-aft corner. "Yup, the tetryon beam from one of the other hits damaged the SIF power conduit. When we started pumping the warp core energy into the system, it just created more damage. We were lucky to get out of there when we did. I'd say a minute or so longer at that energy level would have fried the whole subsystem."
"Lt. Ghan what do you make of it?" |

The gruff Tellarite had been observing the Cadets as they worked. He listened intently as they puzzled out the mystery in front of them, not giving any indication as to how he himself felt about the whole mess.

"Lt. Ghan what do you make of it?"
The Chief Engineer looked over Cadet Kuplo's scans and nodded slowly, approvingly.
"Well done Cadet, I think you've figured it out... now the real question is, how do we better prepare ourselves for our next encounter with these aliens?" _________________
