Smith sat in his quarters, staring at the comn station. He'd been busy these last few weeks, and had forgotten to call home to his wife of 8 years. She'd be angry, but...
The comn unit was connected to the one on the other end:
"Hi honey... How are you toda..." Smith spoke sweetly to his wife Charolette.
"Don't Hi Honey me... where the hell have you been??!?"
"Hon, we've been under alert status for more than a month, and we were borded last week! You'll forgive me if fighting for my life was more important!" Smith cringed, remembering that his wife would always worry about him no matter what, and suddenly feeling 12 inches tall.
"What do you mean..." she trailed off, now realizing how silly she looked chewing into her husband. "I'm sorry Ted... it's just - I worry for you."
"I know hon. Obviously I'm alright, and there's a lot of stuff I can't tell you about it, but there's scuttlebutt that I am up for an award. I don't care either way, but I thought you might like to hear that."
"Absolutely! I've always been proud of you, this time is no different."
The tone of this conversation had changed, and Smith now welcomed the news from home. His brother had gotten married two years prior, and as a Senior Chief Petty Officer aboard the USS Exeter - a Galaxy Class ship homeported on Earth, had recently welcomed Ted's newest neice into the galaxy! As Charolette relayed news from home, Ted's mind wandered.... _________________

..."C'mon slowpoke.... catch me." yelled Ted, back to his girlfiend, Charolette. "I'm halfway to the beach, and you're dragging behind!" He laughed.
Ted and his girlfriend had been dating since High School, and now, two years into his enlistment with Starfleet, they were seriously talking about marriage. Little did Charolette know, Ted was planning to do more than talk. As they ran down the wooded trail toward the beach at Guff Point state park in Naughton, Connecticut, Ted's mind raced...
What if she says no... or what if she says yes??!?
It made no matter... it was sunset, and they finally made it to the beach. Ted was breathing heavy from the brisk run, but turned around in time to see Charolette's form in the sunset light... he knew the time was right.
"What the hell are you doing???" Charolette yelled, as Ted hit his knee...
"I think we both know. Charolette Honeywell, will you marry me?" _________________

PO3 Ted Smith
Crew's Quarters
USS Hartington - on patrol in the Gamma Quadrant
Ted sat before the comm station. Half dreading the call, yet needing it. He input the address for his wife's holo-station on Earth.
"Hi honey... how's home?"
"It's okay. Kinda cold." said Charolette. Their quarters aboard Starbase 135 had been reaching record lows lately since climate control had been sluffing off. "I miss you Ted. When are you coming home?"
"Not sure right now hon. We're on a patrol, and the El Tee had put me in charge of Tactical rediness... I'm kind of a supervisor. I've got the request in now to get you on board in family quarters, so I'll check with Commander Qech this week, okay babe?"
"Okay Ted." she said, now frowning. "Doesn't help me with missing you."
"I know babe. I love you!"
"Love you too. Be safe."
"You bet. Smith out." _________________

Ted got up early so he could call Charolette before his shift. He was giddy as he sat in front of his Comm station, ready to spill some, if not all of the beans.
"Computer, Open frequency - authorization Smith Omega 2 3 5."
"Acknowledged... begin transmission." chirped the computer in its unemotional feminine voice.
"Char, hon? Did I catch you at a bad time?"
"Just running around. I was supposed to meet up with Susan down at the observation lounge and... you never call me in the middle of the day - what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I have some good news. I'm being reassigned here in the Gamma Quadrant, and need you to meet me aboard the USS Guardian."
"Ted, what have you done now?"
"Nothing hon. I've been doing so good aboard the Hartington, that Captain Brennon has temporarily assigned me to the Guardian. I know it is short notice, but I need you to pack up the apartment."
"But Ted, this is where we live when you're not out on patrol."
"Not anymore, babe. We'll be changing our address to the Gamma Quadrant. You'll be living here with me."
"I'm going to be living on the Guardian??"
"I'll tell you more when you get out here babe... I gotta start my shift, ok?"
"Ok Ted. Be safe. Love you!"
"Love you too babe!" Smith replied, as he toggled his comm station off. _________________
