USS Tigris
Lt Harper
"Yes sir," She said, powering up the impulse engines. As the main shuttlebay door's opened, she smoothly pulled the vessel from dock. "We must be some distance from the current position of the alien vessels, sensors are clear." A few moments later they are clear of the ship, and the runabout smoothly jumps to warp, "Warp 5 achieved Commander."
Roe sighs and clears his throat, "Initial estimates of the distress signal appear to be incorrect, we are within 2 lightyears of the signal. It appears to be coming from an M class planet in a nearby starsystem." _________________

Talbert looked around the small group. This would be an interesting time, a moment to focus on interactions with a specific subset and see what this crew was made of. He switched on the data screen before him and ran some computations.
"It appears we will be on this course for 2 days. Make yourselves comfortable. We'll plan to rendevous with the Guardian in 5 days, unless they move toward us. Chief Roe, I want the communications relay launched in 16 hours on this course."
With that he moved to the back of the runabout, and moved the System 921 flat onto the floor. After a six second delay, the hologram activated and the EMH stood before him, his blue eyes sweeping the group.
"I do not understand, you do not appear to have a medical emergency."
Talbert smiled. "Not yet, and maybe not at all," he said. "Let's hope for the best." He moved to a console and activated the feed from Guardian.
"I think it's best that you familiarize yourself with our current mission. Then you can deactivate yourself for transport. Our security contingent will see to it your console is taken care of once we reach our destination."
The EMH moved to the console and in seconds had scanned the required information. "Understood, commander. I hope my services will not be required. Particularly in the realm of combat; I'm a doctor, not a warrior, after all."
He moved back to the console, and sat down on a chair beside it. "If it is all the same, sir, I would like to....mingle. It may help me beyond the medical records I have been programmed with." He smiled at the small group. "So, tri-dimensional chess, anyone?" _________________

Roe glared at the EMH for a moment, then turned away. "I don't play chess with computers, they are programmed to cheat."
Harper was amused at the EMH's comment, but had to stifle a laugh at the Engineers remark. "Why not, Doctor. Do have a name you prefer or should I just call you Doctor?" _________________

921 blushed slightly at Chief Roe's comments.
"I beg your pardon, Chief Roe, but I could no more cheat at chess, than I could avoid providing you with medical treatment during times of duress." He looked back at Lt. Harper.
"I suppose you could call me 921. At present my designation, as Chief Roe would so poignantly indicate, is computerized. However, I am programmed to adapt and thus develop. I suppose I have not yet given it consideration." He turned his attention to the replicator, his black wavy hair curling around his temples.
"Computer, please replicate a tri-dimensional chess set." The system created the game and 921 moved it to a slide-out table beside him.
"All right, Lieutenant. I look forward to the challenge." _________________

Visably slumping in her chair, she couldn't help but feel a small bit of regret... great, stuck in a tiny ship for two days... oh this is gonna be fun... she thought to herself. Raising an eyebrow as the EMH was activated she stifled a chuckle. chess eh? she thought to herself and tried to remember the last time she even had someone offer to play against her... and couldn't.
Knowing that she was the wild card in the hand here, she shifted in her seat and tried to keep to herself as she watched the two beings playing at chess. A small twinge of longing went through her then. She couldn't even remember the last time she'd had a... friend.... _________________

After several hours of intense playing, Harper throws her hands in the air. "I give up, that's 3 games to you, 2 for me. I think Chief Roe has a point on that cheating comment." She grins at Vanquax, "You want a shot at him?" _________________

letting the thought roll around in her mind for a moment, she sighed. "I haven't played in so many years... and it just whooped you pretty good." she said and grinned a bit "Thank you for the offer though"
now poker... that's a game I could have gotten into... she thought to herself and let a smile cross her face as she became lost in the memory of her last poker game. _________________

OOC we'll move things along a bit.
ACTION
Sleeping in shifts, squeezing around each other, and otherwise trying to keep from driving each other crazy, the crew passes the days, until finally they near their destination.
Harper runs another sensor sweep, verifying her data, before speaking. "Commander, we are nearing the class M planet, ETA 12 minutes." _________________

921 chaffed at the description of it to describe him. "I beg your pardon," he replied in a huff, "but I am a doctor not a coffee table. I would ask you to refrain from calling me "it" in the future, when he, him or doctor would do quite nicely. While I am a hologram, I do nonethless contain the programming to grow. However, if poker is your hand, I will certainly welcome that as well." He nodded to Lt. Harper. "Thank you, Lieutenant, that was quite enjoyable, as I understand those parameters."

Commander Talbert looked at the information on his sensor screen. "Lt. Harper, apparently there is a ship on the surface of the second planet in this system." They swept in closer. "Look alive people," said Talbert, "we are entering the planet's atmosphere. I'm detecting a Tal'harton ship on the surface, similar in mass to the runabout, and lifesigns in the vicinity of the ship responsible for the distress call."
"Lt. Harper, put us a half kilometer from the ship, out of sight of the Tal'hartons. Lt. V; you, Chief Roe and I will head to the ship. Mr. Johnson, Lt. Harper and 921 will remain with the Tigris in case we need to bug out. Any questions?" _________________

Harper nods, "Yes Sir." She deftly brings the runabout around the lower hemisphere of the planet to avoid detection by the Tal'Harton. She lands the runabout in a clearing within half a kilometer of the wreckage.
"Ship secure Commander."
Ensign Johnson, who had said exactly two words in the last two days, stands with his phaser rifle at the ready, ready to open the access hatch. _________________

after spending countless hours cramped and uncomfortable, trying to sleep without having room to stretch, she was overjoyed at hearing she would momentarily be able to move about again...
"Finally..." she muttered under her breath as she stood, ready beyond belief to be free of the cramped quarters and her growing claustrophobia and annoyance with the few others. Tight spaces always made her a bit edgy. _________________

Commander Talbert grabbed his tricorder and his phaser, locking them onto his waist. "All right, Mr. Johnson, punch the hatch. Lt. V, take the lead and Chief Roe, bring up the rear. Be ready for anything...these Tal'harton have a nasty reputation." _________________

Johnson cycles the airlock, bringing the phaser rifle up and sweeping the forest outside, looking for targets. Satisfied it was clear, he steps out of the runabout and takes a crouched position several paces from the runabout. "All clear sir."
Chief Roe grabs his toolkit and pulls a tricorder of his own, waiting for the others to leave the runabout. _________________

Talbert exits behind Lt. Vanquax, and looks at his tricorder. His hand was held loosely on his phaser.
"Lt. V," he said, pointing his tricorder in a particular direction, "Looks like we're going this way. I'm reading 2 lifeforms, probably Tal'harton, along with limited power signatures. Let's go, softly."
He crouched, and followed the Lt. into the brush. _________________

taking a brief look at her own tricorder to confirm the readings she replaced it back at her waist, pulled out her phaser, nodded to Talbert and slipped into the brush in front of her.
Feeling her blood start pumping faster as her adreneline began to climb she weaved through the plantlife soundlessly, her training kicking in the instant she left the shuttle. With little more than a rustle of the leaves she crawled through, phaser never waivering from in front of her. Even for a woman of her hieght, she seemed more like she was swimming as opposed to crawling through branches, trees, and weeds that seemed set on clinging to a person.
making sure she never got to far ahead of the rest, she kept her pace steady. She wasn't sure how long they'd been going, but something caught her attention... something that made her stop and hold a hand out behind her to keep the team from advancing. When she heard someone moving, she whipped her head around and glared as she signaled them to hold, and be silent.
Voices. Unable to make out what they were saying, she turned again and slowly, ever so slowly she pressed forward hoping that the other had the smarts to stay put. Moving a few steps closer, she could hear the voices growing clearer, but still couldn't make out the words. Taking a few quick glances around her, she knew that the brush was limited, which meant her cover would be slim to none, but they'd trusted her enough to let her take point, so she wouldn't fail now.
She looked behind her to take in how far back the team was, and slipped out of the brush. She was fortunate to find that there was a short cliff, giving her the viewing advantage. There was a small ship of some kind, one like she'd never seen before and two figures sifting through the wreakage of the ship, and occasionally stopping to talk amoungst themselves. Looking down over the edge of the cliff she spotted a way down, and took it... her last step though, proved to be the fault.
When the ground gave way beneath her right foot, she slipped and found her footing, only to the result of the two figures turning and shouting, then the sting of a laser blast tearing through her left side. Fighting through the pain she dove for the nearest cover, set her phaser to kill and fired. She could hear the rustle of the team breaking through the bushes, the crack of the boulder she was behind as the blasts hit it and the yells of the figures firing upon them.
Sending another shot out at them, she felt some gratification as one yelled in pain and took to a limp. at least I grazed him she thought to herself and then felt another sting as a blast grazed her left hand, causing her to curse. When the blasts stopped she shouted another curse as she watched them flee toward their ship. Running after them, despite the calls from her team, she tried to catch something, anything that would stop them, but it was to late... by the time she got near, the ship was already airborn.
"NO!" she shouted and cursed again. That was when the pain in her side reminded her of her injuries. Hearing the others nearing, she gave a frustrated grunt, put her injured hand to her side and found her uniform torn and covered in blood.
"Great... just great..." she said as she clipped her phaser back to her belt and started towards the others. _________________
