Captain Brennon sits at the conference table's head, thumbing over the latest sensor data on the planet. To his right, the grayish blue world spins below their ship. The Captain puts the PADD aside and stands as his Officers begin to file into the room. _________________

Uvek leaves his post on the bridge in the capable hands of Ensign Phell. He enters the conference room, PADD in hand, ready to receive the data from the Science department.
His results from the training simulations were favorable, and he identified only a few areas that would require additional attention. He had a good tactical team.
The preparations for receiving the Cardassians had gone well, and the ship was ready for any contingency from outside. He moved to the table, and took a position roughly dead center, allowing him to view all aspects, without dominating the conversation. Being as tall as he was, he was aware that even seated his presence could be intimidating.
He laid the PADD down, and gave the captain a brief rundown of the simulation results, then waited for the remainder of the crew.

Lieutenant Calodan files into the conference room and after a nod to the Captain and Uvek, takes his seat at the table. _________________

Cadet Azmay enters slightly behind Doctor Kiv, and stands behind her as she gets seated, until given permission or nodded to sit by her or a superior officer.
As e tends to do as e comes into the Conference Room, e looks -after having nodded to those present, and sensed the different smells of the room through es olfactory feathers- through the huge windows, at the vast expanses of space. |

Petty Officer Koester headed into the room. Max was trotting alongside him. He made a hand signal and the large GSD lay down on the chair beside him. "Good boy." Koester said as he gently pet the dog.
"My apologies sir." Koester said to the Captain: "When you called the meeting me and Max were on our security rounds..." |

((Sorry, we're in the process of moving and haven't switched over the internet yet. I'm only able to get on for a few minutes every day or two))
Byron enters the conference room and salutes the captain. He waits until all the senior staff enter and the Captain turns to him for the report. He stands and take a few steps back so as to have all of the assembled crew in his sight.
"My scans have shown that this planet, although a Class-L, seems to have some interesting biology and ecology. This planet seems to be able to sustain life forms. The culture and technology of the dominant species is at a pre-industrial stage, pre-warp by far.
"There is a largely irradiated area which seems to be the "landing" point of the Cardassian ship. My scans were unable to identify what class the ship was. There seems to be mass graves in the irradiated area, Potentially of cultural importance.
"Results from my atmospheric scans lead me to believe that some, if not all, of our scanners and other technology may operate unexpectedly or not at all. I strongly urge the away team to exercise care and caution when attempting to use their tools.
"The atmosphere and ecology, as I stated earlier, will support life. However, prolonged exposure for non-native humanoids will become very... uncomfortable. I believe regular tri-ox injections will ease the Away Team's mission.
"The Cardassians, I believe, are actually well suited to the climate and atmoshpere. I strongly believe that those who did not perish in the crash will have no physical problems surviving on the planet. How they will be received by such a primitive species, however, remains to be seen...
"Thank you."
Byron nods to the Captain and returns to his seat.
((sorry, this was just thrown together quickly. I hope I didn't screw people up.)) |

"Sir. I recommend placing the Cardassians on lockdown when we get them onboard." Koester said: "Level four forcefields on their quarters. No computer access unless it is supervised and armed guards posted near them at all times. Who knows what anti-Federation sentiment the Cardies have..." |

"Sir, I have to disagree with Mr. Koester. The Ops department and I have come up with some comprehensive security measures that will allow the Cardassians access to the recent news as well as the comms so they can call home and confirm everything. My reccomendation is to allow that, it will go a long way in helping them to trust us. If we treat them like prisoners, they will act accordingly." _________________

"Sir," Koester replied: "I disagree. We have no idea who these Cardassians are. Obsidian Order operatives. Soldiers from pre-Dominion War days. Or otherwise hostile individuals. In any case when they are being examined I will assign a security detail to protect the infirmary and assign three guards for Dr. Kiv specifically. Doctor the three guards are for your protection. Who knows how the Cardassians will react to a Bajoran doctor examining them." |

Lt Uvek listened to the back and forth on Cardassians. His tactical scans indicated no threats at present, including known weapon systems and vessels. There was no reason to believe there was anything but wounded and irradiated members of a crashed ship there. He tapped into his PADD and added the science officer's scans to his own.
"Captain, of course we will first need to determine the condition of the Cardassian contingent. I recommend two things. Our security measures will be adequate regardless once on board the ship. However, in transporting/shuttling to the surface, it may be wise to approach with limited military equipment. We are on a rescue/assessment mission, after all. Any force meaning us harm could easily overwhelm a landing party. If things turn heated, we can have a contingency plan to send a full platoon to the surface. As part of this statement, it needs to be added that we still have no idea of the nature of their emergency, or how long they have been on this planet. Furthermore, I recommend we ask Ambassador Rolen about this planet. He may have insights. A pre-industrial society may be primitive, but there is no indication of threat at this time."
Uvek winced, remembering his last briefing. He had promised he would remain silent this time, but as Tactical officer, he could not. It was time the ship started acting like a vessel of peace and exploration and he had to put his "two cents in" as they say. |

Please forgive me if I overstep my bounds. I know that my knowledge of warfare, battle, and away teams in general is limited at best. But, unless I misunderstand the situation this is intended to be a search and rescue, not a search and destroy. And assuming we find any Cardassians alive, they will not be prisoners of war. Hypothetcally, they will be victims of a horrible crash; and guests on our ship. The war has left a lot of scars, I have some myself..."
Byron looks down, and shakes his head slightly, before looking back up. His continues in a quieter more somber voice.
"... it left a lot of scars, but it
"...is over. We would hope the Cardassians would do the same for us if it were the otherway around..."
Byron sits back, seeming shocked that he spoke out like that. Slowly he returns to is normal, reserved posture. |

Uvek glanced in Lt. Byron's direction and allowed himself a small smile. Finally, he thougth, someone else is seeing the light at the end of the war tunnel....
He hoped it would be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.......or at least a working one. |

Petty Officer Smith enters the conference room:
"Excuse me, Lt. Uvek... The armory wanted me to confirm you needed a few phaser rifles for your Away Mission." _________________

Uvek looked at the captain.
"Sir?" He asked. "I do not personally feel it is necessary, but I request further details on the planetary conditions. Will we be able to transport down and back with no trouble, or will we require a shuttlecraft?"
"If the former I recommend handhelds and tricorders only on Alpha squad. If the latter, I recommend phaser rifles be placed in the shuttle's lockers, in case of emergency." |

Doctor Kiv looked towards Koester and shook her head.
"Mr. Koester, I understand your desire and duty to protect the ship and crew, but I will not have three guards hampering my triage efforts. A pair of guards on the Sickbay's doors will be more than sufficient."
For his part, the Captain sat back and listened to his Officer's back and forth, not revealing where his own sympathy may lay with regard to the situation until all of the relevant information had been discussed.
"Let's make one thing clear right off the bat. Lieutenants Uvek and Kantu are correct. These are victims of an interstellar accident and our duty as Federation citizens and Starfleet Officers is firstly to humanitarian needs.
"Having said that, we will not take any undue risks while our guests are with us. Lieutenant Calodan, I'd like your department to allow Tactical and Security to look over your suggested security measures. I have every confidence that your measures will be sufficient.
"Mr. Koester, please have security teams secure vital areas. Computer Core, Main Engineering, Life Support Systems, Main Bridge. Coordinate with Lieutenant Uvek.
"We need to also remember people, that these precautions are contingent upon us actually finding survivors. Commander Qech, I'd like you to assemble an away team to search the crash site. Davynn, you've your pick of the litter so long as you take Lieutenant Kantu and Cadet Azmay with you.
"Before the team leaves this ship, I'd like you to speak with Rolen. Any questions?" _________________
