Just wanted to get a grip on what folks are doing for the Thanksgiving holiday this week and to wish you all the best!
My wife and I will be hosting a small dinner with several of our residents who do not have family either in the area or living. We generally only get away from the building very sporadically and for short periods, and for holidays we seem to have a soft spot for the folks who would be alone here. So, we are once again cooking a turkey with the fixings and gonna set the holiday cheer!
That's our plans, how about you all?
Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm working midnight to noon the day after at my store so I'm spending the day resting up. We'll most likely be going to my in-laws for the meal, if only to help put me to sleep for the afternoon. Not the best thanksgiving in the world, but at least I'll be off. I can't remember the last time I had the holiday off. _________________

Most likely slaving under a hot plate of steaming guilt from my family members... And then sleeping it off. Standard Holiday cheer. _________________

I work, 4-12:30. The joys of being part of a 24/7 support team.
I also work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day. _________________

Wow - I can relate to working through the holidays! One of the perks and disadvantages of living where you work (and with Seniors on top) is that we are on call 24 hours a day every day. But, we are largely off duty when home as we have "trained" folks to not knock on our door when we are off-the-clock. We still get visitors early in the morning or late in the evening, but it is far less intrusive than it used to be.
Anyway, I hope the plate of guilt isn't stacked too high...LOL _________________

We forgive you.
Its a holiday that falls on the last Thursday of November, a day of giving thanks and all that. Mainly it means over eating (usually Turkey), watching Football (the american kind) and prepping to go shopping at 4am the next day (Black Friday, biggest shopping day of the year in the US).
In my family it means pretending to be friendly, people having too much to drink and forgetting to pretend, yelling, fighting, and the throwing of food. It's a <sarcasm>GREAT</sarcasm> time. _________________

I can relate with the 'pretending to be friendly' part. In my family it's a game of deadly social politics and passive-aggressive conversation. In my family, no one fights. No one argues. The air is never cleared, and problems are never solved because the rule is: "shhh, don't cause trouble." Just keep the lid on the pot.
The solution to someone saying something you don't agree with is to go quiet, radiate a temperature of 0 degrees Kalvin, pretend you never heard them speaking in the first place, and walk away only to pretend later that you're actions were completely misunderstood and you didn't mean anything by it. Now everyone is happy again, right? right? see! No problems!
Thanksgiving is the day to give thanks indeed. Give thanks that you only have to do it one day of the year... but don't get me started on Christmas.
Happy Holidays!

I so wish I was british and didn't have to celebrate this stupid holiday. This year, I get to spend the holiday with my mother and grams eating at a buffet in an indian casino. yeah... I'd so rather have a job that demanded me work.... _________________

WOW. I did not realize that this holiday had become such a burden for some. I guess being in a housing unit with 40 strangers has its advantages! LOL Here's a tip.....STAY HOME! Enjoy your loved ones by telephone and mailbox and just cook for one, or two, or whatever your household has. When I left home and joined the military, I traveled and didn't have holidays with my family after 1984.
We do it now and since then by those methods and when we do see each other it is all the sweeter (and shorter).
Just a tip....hoping you all find some form of joy and relaxation this weekend.

I had wanted to stay home... but I had no say in the matter. Grams insists we celebrate it, and mom wont spend that much time alone with her... my family REALLY doesn't get along. I just wish they'd picked a better local restaurant... I mean a buffet? at a casino? that's what happens when Grams picks the spot! At least it'll be a funny story to tell... _________________

Wish I could. Dodging a "family event" is a no-no (God help you if you tried to skip out on Christmas!). Everyone is going to get together and pretend they like it dammit! The powers that be must have their way! In other words... my grandmother. My family runs on estrogen. The women run the show and the men do as they're told. Such stable and balanced relationships. _________________

Okay I'll bite, I wasn't going to share my whine fest since it's not as bad as some, but here we go.
Thursday I am going to the in-laws, which includes the step-mom in-law that no one really likes. And all of her family will be there, so that will be fun.
On Sunday I am having dinner with my family, at my house. My parents got divorced this last year, so most likely only my sisters will show up. At some point I will have to talk to my alcoholic mother that I haven't talked to in about 4 months, just to show I care, even tho she will probably look at the caller ID and not answer. So I'll have to go to her apartment.
End whining _________________
