POINT OF ORDER:Stardate: 53772.5 immediately after the meeting and M'Rowl's message....on the bridge:
Uvek stops Koester as the team moves toward the bridge turbolift. He had resumed his post at Tactical, relieving Phell and switching the console back to his personal preferences.
"Master at Arms, please bear in mind that your rifle's technologies may not function on the planet's surface. I recommend you select someone else to stay on the runabout and see to the equipment. Your knowledge and experience may be invaluable should the team face a technological breakdown."
He extended his hand and shook Koester's. "Jolan Tru, PO Koester. I will have the ship ready for your successful return."

"Roger sir. I've selected a position on a rocky outcrop with a line of sight to where Commander Qech and the team met the Cardassians and giving me a line of sight to view the runabout." Koester replied: "I've got my sniper rifle's secondary rifle sights calibrated in case the exographic targeting fails to function. And the TR-116 is rated to perform in the vast majority of hostile environments..." |

Uvek nodded at the report. His estimation of Koester went up another notch. Under that heated exterior was still a professional, he thought to himself. The team will be fine.
Uvek turned his attention to the tactical scans. He zeroed in on the irradiated areas and tried to assess the threat potential. The atmospheric interference made it all but impossible, so he tied science station's scan results into his own and tried to extrapolate from that. NOTHING. It was going to be "crap shoot" as he had heard Admiral Dwyer say about a situation with poor intelligence resources.
He tapped into the scanners again and swept local space. Clear. So, at the present that would not be a problem. Finally, he double checked the security procedures for the return of the landing party. A squad of security personnel were preparing to take a shuttle down should things turn sour, and others were taking up position around the ship. They would be as prepared as they could be. Uvek nodded. This post may be just what the doctor ordered.
He turned to the captain. "Sir, should we have Ambassador Rolen join us on the bridge?" he inquired. Better to have him where we could watch him, thought Uvek. He waited on the captain's reply. |
