Task Force: Gamma

It took Qech a few minutes after she woke to finally force her eyes open. When she did, she wondered for a moment why she had even bothered; her vision was blurry, but she tried to blink it away, with some success. Then a familiar shape caught her eye, and she turned her head to see Brennon seated next to her, his head downward turned. He seemed engaged in whatever it was he was reading, as he didn't look up when she saw him.

Davynn quickly dredged her recent memories to try and put together what had happened. Why was she laying here? She had vague recollections of people standing over her... But what about before that?

I was sitting in a chair in the lab she thought, the images gradually coming back to her. Calodan, And Croft were... Oh, please don't let me be the only one left.

A million horrible thoughts went through her mind all at once: The serum, did it fail? Calodan, Croft... is my baby alright? Am I going to live, or is this parasite just taking its time with me?

All at once she thought her mind might explode if she didn't ask these questions. Thankfully, someone she could trust to be honest with her was sitting right there. Her voice broke when she spoke. It seemed to hardly work at the moment, but it was enough to get his attention:

"Captain?"

Location: Sickbay, USS Hartington

Brennon had indeed been engaged in his reading, more messages from Starfleet Command. The less he read, the less he liked but... orders were orders. It seemed to the Captain that he had no where to go to hide from the misery at the moment. His work left him with a foul taste in his mouth and the state of his First Officer and friend was...

"Captain?"

His head shot up immediately and his eyes went to hers. With a sigh of relief and a smile on his face, David nodded.

"Sleep well?"

"Sleep well?"

Qech took a moment to look around sickbay, realizing she was back aboard the Hartington. And... Well, the Captain was there. So she couldn't be contagious anymore. But what about the others?

"I suppose... Where is everyone? Croft and Calodan were on their death beds last I saw them. Were they able to remove the parasites? What happened?"

"Jim and Xavier are fine, your cure worked. Doctors Kiv and Ortega tell me that because you resisted the parasites for so long your body was very worn down. It was touch and go there for a bit but you've made it through no worse for wear. Qech is fine, so is your son. All there is left for you to do is rest up, whenever you and the Doctors say you're ready to come back to work, Jim will get our of your chair... well mostly the Doctors, you have very little say in the matter. Sound good to you?"

Qech took it all in. Her mind was a bit fuzzy, but she was relieved to know everyone, including her child, was alright. The Captain's joke about Jim getting out of her chair told her that he was well enough to be back on duty, and that put her fears to rest for the time being.

"It could have been a lot worse. I'm just thankful we didn't lose anyone." She smiled weakly. "And if the cost is just my spending some time in sickbay, I'd say we all got off light."

Brennon shrugged and sat back, turning the PADD onto its face in his lap. He looked sad or uncomfortable for some reason, though the feelings were not directed towards Qech in any way. With a sigh he stated simply:

"There are always risks to putting on this uniform. Everyone on the team knew that. You're right, we were lucky this time. Let's hope our luck holds."

He then forced a smile and looked back towards her.

"Get some rest, Davynn, I'll check on you soon."

Croft nodded to Calodan,
"Aye sir." He began typing in commands, checking ships systems. Within several minutes Ops had cleared them for departure.
"Ops has cleared us for departure, laying in course, warp three."

OOC hope I'm not jumping ahead too much here.
