Uvek was done with prayer. For 20 years he had lost the habit and the one time he thought to pursue his Rihannsu beliefs, they proved futile. No, he would prepare in another way.
"Doctor, I would like you to inject me with an artificial cortical stimulant right now please."
He moved to the back of the shuttle. "Commander", he said, sitting in a chair next to the doctor. "In line with your order we must decide whether to destroy the Pike, or somehow invalidate the computer. And, obviously, we do not have much time." _________________

"Locking out the computer is only a matter of a simple command override, which I've given. But I have to ask about the stimulant, Uvek. The doctor is the medical officer on this ship, and it's his decision. However, it may be prudent for you to tell him why you feel you need a stimulant."
She folded her arms in front of her and leaned back slightly, crossing her legs. He's forgetting he's working with Starfleet now. This is not the Tal Shiar.
((OOC: I like how Uvek's roots are showing. adds character.)) _________________

"Commander, doctor. We need information, both for what we are dealing with and how we can best help the Hartington in the future. The vulcanoid mind has the capacity to re-route neural pathways in the event of trauma. Considering our situation, it seems unlikely we can avoid whatever the Tal'harton have in store for us." He leaned forward.
"I propose to submit myself to this process of re-education. Given the history of the Romulan empire, and my training in particular, it is possible that, with the good doctor's help, I will be able to retain what information I gather, without losing myself. It seems likely we face some form of mind alteration, and with proper stimulation I could very likely separate one hemisphere of my mind from another without long-term harm." _________________

Qech regarded Uvek with a somber expression. "Something tells me, given what the ambassador has told us, that they won't be giving any of us a choice in the matter. But, if you think you can protect yourself Mr. Uvek, then by all means, please do. We have no idea what is coming, not really. But if you can keep a firm grasp on yourself through all of this... We may all be better off with at least one free-thinking comrade."
She remained calm and composed on the outside, but inside she was screaming. There was no telling what these people may do to them. Would they use drugs? Torture? The endless possibilities trailed on in her mind for what seemed like an eternity as the Tal'Harton ship loomed over them. None of the options seemed to be anything that would be safe for her baby; the one crew member that she and she alone could protect.
And to think my biggest concern for its health was giving up Klingon Coffee. _________________

The medical officer was taken aback by the lack of medical knowledge and the insane amount of complete stupidity displayed by his fellow crew member.
"Uvek, i do not mean to be rude, but i can tell by what you have just said you have not thought this through. An artificial cortical stimulator will indeed accomplish what you suggested, but the side effects will be damaging and long term. The correct procedure for what your asking is a synaptic induction. As you are the person flying this vessel, and i am the person in charge of you medical well being, holistic well being might i add, mind as well, i have to decline your order. It's pure insanity."
Oliver sat back, crossing his arms, in a mock attempt of assertiveness.
Suddenly, he leaned forward, and opened his pack.
There was a magical display of goodies that the doctor called his playground equipment, rather unnerving if your doctor thinks a heart transplant is playtime.
"However, if we were captured, and we were all in danger, it would give us an advantage. Uvek, i will reluctantly prescribe the synaptic induction, as long as you compromise."
Oliver rustled among catheters, hypo - canisters and various colorful drugs and pulled out a tiny black chip.
"This is a neurocortical monitor, a device designed to record a complete electroencephalographic profile. or brain wave picture, if you will. I will place it on your parietal bone and i will program it to alert myself and the Hartington's medical database, which is not functional, but will receive and store the information for later analysis."
Oliver looked at the officer and sighed. "You would be going against my recommendations and my gut instinct, but for the safety of the crew and the Hartington, i am willing to carry out the procedure."
Oliver looked at the commander, who appeared to be worried.
"That is with your consent, of course commander." |

Qech nodded to the doctor. "Doctor Newell, it may be a risk but we're walking a very high tight rope here as it is. We have no choice but to tempt the wind. I concede to your judgment, as I waved my authority as a CMO long ago. You are the medical Officer on the ship. Make the call."
At that, she looked to Lieutenant Uvek. "I can only ask you to be careful. We need to take care of each other if we're going to make it through this. But you need to take care of yourself as well." _________________

"I am well aware of the risks. However, without the stimulation, I will not be able to force the separation that will be required." He looked at the doctor. "I am going to need a few moments. Administer your treatment as they are preparing to penetrate the shuttle, but not until then."
With that, Uvek sat on the floor, crossed his legs, and closed his eyes. In truth, he had no idea what this would mean for him. But, he had years of training in his former service, had survived the torture of the Nausicaans, and was totally aware of himself. His meditation grew deeper and deeper until finally he could not hear even the muffled sounds of the Tal'harton cruiser docking, or the crew preparing. His mind settled. Calm and quiet; alone. His mind began to reach within itself, to set defenses, to set his imagination aside and see the silence around him as color. Black, solid. Behind this wall he set a small part of his awareness. Himself. He sat in that black, that quiet, and watched himself, and when he opened his eyes again he was not Uvek, but he was. _________________

The Dr waited for a while, but then decided to removed the syringe from Uvek's neck, and then sat, listening the the muffled noises outside the craft.

ACTION
With a clang the Tal'Harton vessel latched onto the Pike, pulling the smaller vessel into a landing bay. Several minutes went by in silence before a voice came over the com.
"Please exit your vessel in an orderly fashion. Show no resistance and you will not be harmed."
As the crew stepped out into the landing bay they were faced their same number in Tal'Harton. One of their captors, an ornately robbed man, bowed his serpentine head. His regal hood with the appearance of a Terran Cobra stretching as he did.
"I am Inquisitor Voss, your host until we arrive at the center. My associates will see to your vessel's care. It will not be harmed, in fact we won't even handle it. Once your time with us is complete and all according to procedure, you'll be able to leave in it. Now, if you'll follow me." _________________

Uvek was in a strange twilight realm. His mind was beginning to race and his thoughts were pulling away from him, pulling him in different directions. He barely heard the Insquisitor's words, and had to be gently, and surruptitiously guided by Dr. Newell as he worked to control himself.
Tal Shiar....Tal Starfleet.....Tal....Uvek of Suran....No, Uvek Suran of Romeration....Romulus....Uvek Suran of Romulus, in the Federation.
His mind found a quiet spot, but the stimulant was beginning to work. He hoped the process, whatever the process was, would begin soon. In a short time he would be raging inside, and he would actually need the process to focus his mind. _________________

Qech said nothing, but walked forward with a graceful confidence. Her head was held high, and she took the opportunity to look around at the creatures who had abducted them. They looked like predators, something that unnerved her greatly. But her fear did not show as they escorted the group forward.
'Once your time with us is complete?' Do they mean when we've been satisfactorily brainwashed? She thought.
They're going to have a time convincing my symbiont of their beliefs... And I have no desire to hand over my free will either if that's the price they're asking. _________________

The crew of the Pike are brought through the corridors of the alien vessel. Colored in earth tones the ship had a peaceful effect on the team, despite the face of their being held captive on it and the serpentine nature of their "hosts".
They were led through various areas, for a moment a science lab is seen, a moment later a medical ward. They even are taken by what must pass for a Tal'Harton nursery... a dozen or so large eggs being watched over by one of the aliens.
finally they are led into a large antechamber where Voss turns to you all and nods.
"We hope these accommodations suit you. We've taken the liberty of preparing a mean for you, if you'll go straight through those doors you'll find your communal dining area." he points to one set of doors, then another nearby. "Through those doors you'll find the various sleeping champers. The journey to the center will take us several days. If you need anything, just press one of these com centers and one of us will come to your aid as soon as possible." He bows and steps out of the room, leaving the group alone to ponder their fate." _________________

Qech shakes her head as she sits down on one of the overly soft chairs. "The Spa Treatment for prisoners?... This whole thing stinks of distraction. I'd almost be more comfortable in a jail cell. Maybe a few rats." _________________

Uvek was struggling now. That damn Vorta! he thought. He struggled to pull himself under control. His vital signs were beginning to change as one part of his mind raced and he seemed hyper aware of every color, sound, sight. He turned to Commander Qech.
"Commander, either Mr. Rolen misled us, or this is an attempt to lull us into a false sense of serenity." He looked around, seeking anything to keep his attention. He felt like running through the ship, reading everything and talking to everyone!
"I suggest I attempt to....stir the pot, as it were. Perhaps it will open an opportunity to use our precaution before it is of no effect." _________________

Qech watched Uvek with concern, and responded quietly, as his head seemed to be hurting. "Mr. Uvek, 'stirring the pot' can sometimes be a useful strategy, but not if you don't even know what's in the pot. For all we know it's volatile. We need to learn more about who these people are and what they plan to do. Baiting them will just lead us into further harm, and sooner."
She regarded the Doctor for a moment, who seemed to be doing better than Uvek at any rate. The Romulan looked as if he was ready to jump out the nearest window. "I know it's difficult. But you need to control yourself, and wait." _________________
