USS Guardian
Bridge
Captain Marek
Marek looks up from his report, "Of course." He motions to the bridge watch officer, then leads Kuplo to his ready room. Once they have both been seated, he motions for his Second Officer to speak, "What may I do for you, Mehvra?" _________________

USS Guardian - Captain's Ready Room
"Thank you, sir. This is in regards to the new shielding we're developing and I have a proposal that may be a security concern. Then again it may not. If I may suggest, we may want to include Lt VanQuax and Cmdr Talbert in this discussion. As you prefer, I can explain it to you first, or wait for them before I begin." _________________

Marek looked up at his second officer, his eyebrow raised, "Commander Talbert, unfortunately, is suffering from a minor viral infection." Marek tapped his combadge, "Lt. VanQuax, please report to my readyroom,"
OOC Rea/VanQuax has been busy as of late, might have to wait a bit for a response, but I'll PM her to give her a heads up. _________________

OOC: sorry! been a bit crazy for me this week...
Walking down the corridor towards Engineering to get some input regarding the modifications and how best to handle the task at hand, her combadge beeps.
"Lt. VanQuax, please report to my readyroom"
with a sigh, she tapped the combadge link open.
"On my way" she said and turned in her tracks heading back to the turbolift. "Bridge" she said and listened as the lift powered up. The doors slid open and she stepped out, heading directly to the door of the ready room and pressed the chime. _________________

Marek acknowledges VanQuax's response, then tells her to enter when the chime rings. Once she has seated herself next to Mehvra, Marek nods to the Engineer. "Mehvra has a concern he would like to address, Lieutenant?" _________________

USS Guardian - Captain's ready room
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo
As Lt VanQuax enters the room, Mehv smiles and gives her a nod as a greeting. He
"To start I'd like to give an update on the progress we've made. The program to allow the subspace shield adjustment was completed without too many issues. It works, however the response time is too slow. By the time the sensor data has been analyzed, the data presented to the user and the users ability to react, the situation can have changed enough that the adjustments being taken are incorrect. This is especially true during a barrage of fire, or when taking fire from multiple vessels. We've been able to reduce the computer's response time , but the user's reaction time is the largest factor here."
"There are two suggestions that were made to correct this issue. We can write a prediction algorithm that would automatically make adjustments based upon a large set of data. This would be done entirely by the computer. This suggestion is the way we want to go in the end. The program, however, is adaptive and needs time to learn before it can become effective. After a few minutes of battle, the program will start to make some correct adjustments, but it will take a couple of engagements before it is working at an acceptable level. The shield WILL protect us from a few hits even without any adjustments, but then will be more or less useless. This brings me to the second suggestion and the reason for this meeting."
Mehv pauses as he considers how to word his next thoughts. "While the computer is learning, Ensign Lenara has the capability to react swiftly enough to adjust the shields making them much more effective until the program is able to take over. This does, however, put her in a position over the fate of the lives of everyone on the ship. I know she has been given a field commission and is a part of the crew, but I'm not sure this level of responsibility was intended so soon after the commission."
"My opinion is that I feel we can trust her. There is the possibility, however, that some part of her programming is present that has so far not manifested. As this concern affects everyone on board I bring it to you for comment and a decision. Please ask any questions you may have." _________________

Marek listens to Mehvra, but doesn't comment, looking expectantly at Lt. VanQuax for her opinion. _________________

Talbert sat upright in the medical bay. He was weak, shaky, but better. Whatever that was, there was little doubt that he picked it up on Panthanael IV, and the gestation period was about a week or two...then, WHAM! He looked for the doc, but the room seemed empty. After a moment, he stood and moved unsteadily to a panel on the wall and opened a commlink with "Talbert to Captain Marek." _________________

Marek tapped his combadge, "Roger, I am pleased to hear your voice. How are you feeling?"
As Talbert is tapping his combadge, the Corridanite medical officer Malen enters from a back room. Seeing Talbert up and awake, he grabs his tricorder and walks over to the Commander, scanning his body but waiting for the conversation to be over before he speaks. _________________

Listening to the words Mehvra voices and taking in the situation it puts the ship in she bites her lower lip in thought as she processes the best way to answer his concerns.
Just as she was about to voice her response, the commlink opened and Talbert's voice sounded through. Fighting the sigh of relief to hear that he was awake she kept her composure and made mental note to stop by sickbay and pay a visit.
She waited as the Captain responded and used the extra time to figure how best to voice her opinion on the matter of Lenara and the computer system. _________________

"Roger, I am pleased to hear your voice. How are you feeling?"
It was unusual to hear the captain use his first name like that, but the Commander was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps it harkened back to their discussion in the lounge and Marek's attempts at bridging the gap with his crew.
"I'm alive, sir," replied his XO. "I'll let you know in a minute; please standby."
He turned to Malen and nodded at the tricorder. "Give it to me straight, doc." he said simply. _________________

OOC Sorry for the delay, spent my computer time playing Star Trek Online yesterday
Malen looks up from his tricorder, then smiles. "You are slightly dehydrated, but otherwise you should be fine. It appears that your immune system and my anti-viral injections have done the trick. Your body just needs to rest. But since I know you will refuse to go sleep for a day, I will allow you to return to duty, restricted of course." _________________

Talbert turned back to the comm panel, and thumbed the switch. "Give me twenty minutes to get a clean uniform and I'll be there, sir. Talbert out."
He turned to the door and moved purposefully out of sickbay. As he passed through the portal, he twisted his head back to Malen. "Thanks, doc." he said simply.
On his way to his quarters he was pleased to see crewmen snap to attention and find themselves busy. Sick or no, the Whip's reputation was still intact. He entered his quarters and sat down on the sofa, resting his head in his hands. "Ok Talbert," he said himself. "Pull yourself together."
He moved to the replicator. "Orange Juice." he said. The computer produced a standard eight ounce glass of the liquid, and he swallowed it in one long pull. After that, he moved to the closet, selected a uniform, and slid it on, attaching the final pip as he exited toward the turbolift.
"Bridge." he said, straightening his tunic over his burly chest and stretching his neck to get the best fit from his collar. As the bridge came into view, he knew he was back. Focused and refreshed from the juice, he entered the ready room and sat down.
"Captain, Mr. Kuplo, Lt. V, Lenara." He said, nodding in turn to each officer. "Fill me in." _________________

taking pause to allow the Commander time to reach the ready room before she expressed her concerns on the situation she tired to keep from rubbing her temples as she took note of a growing headache. She'd spent so much time in what she felt were overly bright rooms, that she really wanted to just sit in a dimly lit room for a few hours with a nice strong drink.
Loosing herself to her thoughts she gave a subtle jump as the doors slid open and Talbert walked in. Suddenly she felt rather foolish for even allowing herself to drift into her own thoughts and not keeping her mind on the current objectives.
She cleared her throat before speaking. "Glad to see you on your feet Sir" _________________

Marek stood when Talbert arrived, then sat, "Lieutenant Kuplo has been working on a secondary shielding system that will protect us against the Tal'Harton's weaponry. Only while it adapts, the only person that will be able to keep with the necessary adjustments it Lenara, and Lieutenant VanQuax was just about to give her opinion on the subject." Marek looks expectantly at VanQuax.
OOC Lenara is not in the meeting, FYI _________________
