The ship rocked again with another series of weapons blasts from the incoming raider and Calodan desperately tried to figure out what the Nekrali had done to work around his phased-polaron field overload. He inputted a change in the frequencies of the hyperon beam and had one of the shuttles attempt the field inversion sequence again...nothing. Another modificiation and the same result. There has to be a patter I can exploit he thought as one of the runabouts, he wasnt sure which, was rocked by weapons fire and had to break off its pursuit to regain attitude control.

At that...the light bulb turned on. "Captain, they've not corrected the field issues, they're just shunting the extra power off. Instead of overloading their powergrids, they are using the extra energy to boost their weapons. Genius move...but we can use that against them too." He inputted a few modifications and sent it to all of the auxilliary craft along with a single command, fire at will. He also tuned the Hartington's deflector and set it to emit an almost continuous pulse of hyperon radiation, aimed at the incoming vessel. One at a time, the shuttles joined in the effort and the Nekrali ship's shields began to glow a violent orange.

"Sir, if we can keep this up we'll overload their shields, but the raider may explode in the process. With that antimatter warhead in their nose, it could be rather dangeorus."

"Signal the raiders, Mr Calodan. Offer them the chance to surrender. Tell them if they do not we will be forced to destroy their ships."

Calodan opened the channel and sent the Captain's message through on all frequencies.

"No response sir. Our sensors show the targeted raider's power system is at critical, with just a bit of increase in power from the Hartington, they would be destroyed."

As he finished his status report, the second raider that had been hanging back the whole time entered the battle. Its weapons struck out at at the Hartington and her support craft, but without the added boosts of power from the attempts to collapse her shields, the hits were far weaker then the other vessels. The vessel then set its course directly towards the Hartington and increased power to its engines. "Sir, second raider on a collision course!" Without waiting for an order, Calodan boosted the power to the main deflector to full and the targeted raider's shields instantly collapsed. A breath later the small ship exploded in a blast of ultra bright white light and rocked a shockwave that rocked the Hartington.

USS Willamette
Xavier Croft

Croft watched the light show, a grim smile on his face. Smoke was in the cabin of the runabout, but the fire was out. Croft swung the runabout around, pursuing one of the smaller craft.

"Ensign, lets clean up the left overs."

(OOC: I'm going to jump this forward a bit, just to get us moving along)

ACTION

With the destruction of the raider the battle was quickly won. Hartington's support craft made quick work of the remaining enemy craft and the Hartington herself was safe once more. The remaining hours to the Panthanel System, while tense, passed without further incident. With the aid of the Myosians, Hartington's port nacelle was back in operation within a day and a half. As soon as the ship was capable, Captain Brennon ordered their course set for the Tal'Harton beacon. A staff meeting is called while en route to discuss the extraction plans.

Conference Room

Captain Brennon sat looking over the Engineering Report provided by Lieutenant Ghan.

"And so as you can see Captain, based on our last encounter with the Tal'Harton, I believe we may be able to simply use our transporters to beam straight through any shielding they have, taking into consideration that their space station isn't too heavily fortified. The fact of the matter is, their technology doesn't appear to be geared towards defending against transporters."

Transporter Chief Blair sat forward and shook her head, confused.

"In our last encounter with them, the Tal'Harton used some form of transporter technology. If they can use transporters, why wouldn't they anticipate other cultures using them and prevent that?"

Captain Brennon looked down the row of personnel to the Hartington's Chief Diplomat, Lieutenant Zeara.

"You're the counselor, Lieutenant. Do you have any ideas regarding this behavior?"

(OOC: okay, sorry if any of this doesn't make sense, but I'm verging on 20 hours awake now... on about 4 hours sleep...)

Looking at the Capitan she worried her bottom lip a moment in thought before responding.

"It is possible that they have set up safegaurds against transporter use, but I doubt that they'd looked into every frequency a transporter may run on. While using the technology, they may be unaware of all the variances needed in setting up a protection from any others using said technology in the same way. If they are using shields to protect themselves, I don't see them reasoning that they would need to offer up any other type of defensive and have most logically given their shields all they have." She paused a moment as if to mull a thought over before speaking again.

"I feel that we should be safe in our assumptions that our transporters would be able to make it through the shields undetected. I foresee no problems as of now in proceeding as planned." Folding her hands on the table, she awaited any response to be offered up.

The pagin whistle chimed.

"Petty Officer Smith to Lieutenant Zeara... I'm on my way to the Brig... will you be ready to interrogate our prisoners in say half an hour or so?"

(OOC: Zeara, post up your reply when you have the chance. I'm going to continue moving the story forward, at least in the briefing. We've been stuck on this one for a while and I'd like to wrap it soon)

The Captain nodded as he listened to the Diplomatic Officer's reply, intrigued at her insight into the alien mindset. When she finished, Brennon looked back to Lieutenants Calodan and Ghan.

"The Counselor makes some interesting points, insight into the enemy's mind, but I'm still worried about beaming through their shielding. Ghan, you're sure you can punch through it?"

The Tellarite nodded his head and slid his PADD across the table to the Captain. He spoke with an assurance in his voice, a man who knew exactly what he was talking about.

"I am, sir. Very sure. To be honest with you it almost looks too easy. There is no reason to believe that their shields will scatter our transporter beam." The Engineer looked to Lieutenant Calodan for backup.

Calodan looked over Ghan's numbers another time. "The numbers look sounds to me Captain. We won't know until we try, so I suggest caution."

Pressing her combadge,

"PO Smith, I will meet you in the brig in 30 mintues."

Pressing the com to close the connection, she returned her attentions to the task at hand.

After a moment of silence, she asked the question that seemed to wiegh on her mind. "Is there anyway to test transporting through the shields? Would a holodeck simulation give us any form of insight into the possible outcome? Not that I see any issue if the figures are sound, but even at that, it would be nice to be able to test them before sending our crew into possible danger."

Koester had up to this time been coordinating getting his security teams into place and ready to prevent future boardings as he took the security console on the bridge.

An impact sent him staggering before he regained his footing: "No signs of intruders onboard yet."

A message comes from the Bridge as the Hartington soars towards the Tal'Harton station.

"Bridge to Captain Brennon, we're nearing the enemy base. I've ordered the ship slowed to impulse power and we are awaiting further orders."

The Captain tapped his combadge, returning the Officer's message.

"Thank you, Lieutenant Woods. Engage the cloaking device and ease us towards the station, nice and slow." he looks to his assembled crew and nods. "Thank you all for your input, let's bring our people home. To your stations."

With that he stepped out onto the Bridge as the Hartington edged closer towards their destination.

ACTION

The Tal'Harton station sat alone in space, the larger vessel Columbia had detected before seemingly long gone. As the Hartington approached, their target seemed unaware of the starfleet vessel floating towards them in the night.

The Hartington's sensors detected a scanning sweep stretching forth from the station, though it didn't appear as though it would penetrate the ship's cloak.

ACTION

Suddenly, the Space Station launches several craft, fighters from the look of them. The small vessels begin to sweep across the distance between their base and the Hartington, each firing off a few purple blasts of energy into space. No pattern or sense could be found to their flight or firing, in fact they seemed to simply be sweeping the area.

Captain Brennon looked to his Operations Officer, a puzzled look on his face.

"Lieutenant Calodan, has our cloak failed? Can they see us?"

Calodan checked his boards.

"Unknown sir. Our cloak is operating at peak efficiency. Perhaps they are detecting some energy signature or radiation from us that our sensors are unable to detect."

Brennon shakes his head as he scratched his beard.

"I don't like it... Lieutenant Croft, take evasive action as we near the station. Lieutenant Calodan, scan for our people. Once we have a solid read on them we'll disengage the cloak, beam them home and high tail it out of here like there's no tomorrow. We won't be raising our own shields, so Xavier, I'll need to you keep those fighters off our back until we have them."
