Giving a groan at the workload and her ever fading certainty that she could pull this off she looked around at the others and couldn't help but hold her right arm to her.

Maybe I should have listened to the med team... oh well...

Waiting for the crowd to disperse before she turned to face her security crew she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. Such a small crew of security personnel but she'd make do with what she could.

Alterran Station
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

Wondering at the cryptic orders from Commander Talbert, he made a quick check on a panel located the Regent in the Computer Core room. Wordlessly communicating to Ensign Lenara, who had overheard the news , they headed in the direction of the computer core room to get instructions from the Regent.

He hadn't found a need to go there yet as he was so busy with the rest of the repairs. Nothing seemed wrong with the computer system. This was all a little odd. Well, its not worth thinking about until I know more, Mehv told himself.

Lenara and Mehv approached the door to the computer core, which didn't open automatically. Mehv pressed the button on the panel to announce their presence.

Lenara follows Mehv, a quizical look on her face. There is no response to Mehvra's page, but after a moment the door opens. Inside, Marek and the Regent are deep in conversation. Lenara approaches the both of them,
"Captain, Regent, Commander Talbert has ordered us to help the Regent with a problem?"

Marek turns to his officers, pausing for a moment, "Yes, the Regent here can give you more details, but the succinct version is that the memory system in which the Regent's program resides is failing. The only long term option is to transfer the Regent to a body similar to Lenara's. This will greatly diminish the Regent's ability to control the androids. Since it will be impossible to meet Admiral Croft's demands without the androids, you two will need to keep the system up long enough to complete preparations and also prepare for the transfer." Marek turns to the Regent, "I will leave you too your work." Marek nods to the others and leaves the room.

The Regent turns to Mehvra, "I appreciate your assistance in this matter."

Almost as soon as the ship had docked, Dorin had boarded the station. He hadn't made it very far. He stood with his PADD like device and a handheld scanner, observing the repair of one android by another at an alcove. He had been there for several hours, collecting what he felt were vital insights into the Alterran culture. He tapped excitedly into his PADD as the repaired android took it's first steps after almost two hundred years. Both androids strode purposefully off, ready for other duties. Dorin watched them go, a small smile on his face. Then he began heading inward again, his limp almost gone as his leg continued to heal. The Myosian scanned constantly as he walked, occasionally making a note of something of interest. I could spend my entire life studying this place...

Talbert was exhausted. Between his recent injury and the dozens of teams coming and going over the past few days, he hadn't rested for more than few hours total. The Ops center was coming along nicely. Unlike DS9, the center was uni-level but broad, sitting as it were at the top of the central hub of the station spokes. He had walls erected and an office built, computer relays placed, terminals replaced or repaired, and furniture replicated through the freight bays.

Sickbay, security, living quarters, all this was being established at the same time. It was bare-boned, to be sure, but beginning to look like a Federation station. He had Lt. Thomas take over for a few hours of shut eye, but found it impossible to sleep well. Knowledge that the fleet was only days away pushed him, and in turn his teams, harder. Confirmation that Captain Brennon would be there added to his stress. The Gamma Quadrant Fleet Commander was no light-weight visitor, to be sure, and Talbert wanted everything perfect.

Entering the VIP quarters, he looked around with satisfaction. Until, that is, he noticed a glaring error. Tapping his commbadge he called for Vendo, the Delta Shift engineering team leader. When the Bajoran arrived, Talbert looked him over. "Mr. Vendo, I would really like you to check this room out, and tell me what you see missing." he said. Vendo dipped his head, his earring swinging with the motion. After a bit he said, "I'm sorry, sir, I'm lost...what are we looking for?"

"I understand this is the VIP chamber where we expect the fleet commander to stay during his visit, yes?" asked Talbert. Vendo nodded his head. "Then where, Ensign Vendo of Delta shift, would you like him to SLEEP?"

The bajoran engineer's nose ridge went pale as he realized the error. He tapped his commbadge and called for Environmental Services to get a bed, pronto...

Talbert watched the engineer slink away, trying not to make eye contact with the Whip. Bad enough to overlook something like that, but worse to be caught on his own shift by an Alpha shifter, and the XO at that! Talbert made a mental note to double-check the inspection protocols on each shift, and wondered aloud if he'd have to do it all himself.

Having gotten her security officers set on a work schedule, and the offices up and running, she'd assigned the team specific duties to keep things running and functioning while her shift went off duty.

Technically she was supposed to have been off duty for the last hour, but she just couldn't seem to find a chance to walk away. Her body ached and her mind was exhausted. every time she tried to make her way to the new crew quarters she'd get stopped by someone and she was starting to loose track of who had asked what. Flagging over her most reliable officer she pulled her off to the side.

"My shift has been over for an hour and if I don't put someone in charge then I-" her sentence was cut off as she swayed on her feet "Then I may well be pulled off active duty all together if I pass out..." she said and watched her crewman nod and intercept the next person with a question heading towards them.

feeling relief wash over her she slipped out the door of the main security office and with her hand touching the walls to keep her steady and on course, she made her way to the crew quarters.

Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian

Taarak paced around the bridge of the USS Guardian, checking over the consoles of each officer working at them. With most of the senior crew on the space station, the Orion flight officer had decided to stay aboard the Guardian and help out with operations there.

He had bridge duty this shift, looking over all of the other junior officers on the bridge filling in for the normal crew members that would be there, but are busy with their duties aboard the station.

Taarak had tried to sit in the center seat a few times, but found it too different and instead made sure he walked around the bridge, stood between the ops console and the flight console and then would look on at the junior flight officer working her post.

Anything to stay out of sitting in the center seat for too long.

Taarak had only made his way for walks around the station twice since the ship had arrived, once to check it out and the other to assist with repairs to the navigational systems -- minor repairs.

With his legs beginning to get tired from the pacing around of the bridge, the Orion officer reluctantly took the center seat, leaned back and closed his eyes briefly in an attempt to get comfortable in the big chair.

Talbert approached Captain Marek in the Ops center. Marek had just signed the afternoon preparation reports on the fifth day of the refit. Things were going well overall, but something had been working on the Commander's mind and he needed to clear the air with his CO.

"Captain," he started, not sure how far to go. "Just wanted to touch base with you on something." He maneuvers into the preliminary Ops office and sits in one of the chairs already in place. "It just seems strange to me that Starfleet would be sending a force out here so quickly." He pauses, feeling more than knowing that if he didn't already know, he wasn't meant to. "Were they expecting this station to be here? Did they already suspect it? If, so what happens to the Regent's memory banks, Lenara, or the station itself, once they get here? I mean, they're jumping pretty fast on it, so it's obviously a matter of priority for them. And aside from the obvious applications, what's going on? Why the push?"

He leaned back, hoping he wasn't stepping into a bad spot here, but knowing the captain would handle it, regardless.

Marek watches his first officer, his face inscrutable.
"Those, " he pauses for a moment, "are logical questions." He puts down the PADD he had been reading, gathering his thoughts, "Admiral Croft was notified of the possibility of the station when we entered the nebula. My report included all the data Lenara had given in her initial report." Marek shifts slightly in his chair, deciding how much of his suspicions he wanted to share with his XO.
"I believe Admiral Croft began gathering resources at that moment. Whether he knew about the station before that I can not say. It appears that the Admiral is very interested in the offensive capabilities of the station. He intends to use the technology on Federation starships if possible."

Roger nodded. He knew of Starfleet's long and sometimes tarnished list of scientific conquests and attempts, including the borg virus developed (though never officially used) on the Enterprise, and the nanoprobes used by Voyager in a similar fashion, as well as the 'blinds' they had established on dozens of worlds. Worst of all was in his mind was the Prometheus, a terrible experiment gone wrong in the hands of a militant admiral, who sought only fame and destruction of the Romulan technological advantage. He also distrusted the military when it came to working with sciences and finding a 'practial' application.

It wasn't all that long ago that Commander Data, then the only sentient android associated with Starfleet before Lenara came along, was the subject of a widely debated military tribunal, whose purposes were to dismantle the android and use him to produce parts. Talbert shook his head.

"Given the history, despite the law JAG Louvois put into place, what are the chances we'll lose Lenara? Or for that matter the Regent, if we succeed in getting her into a new frame?"

He was worried because, despite his work as Ops officer, he was a great study of Starfleet history and he knew the influence Starfleet Intelligence and the military had on scientific discoveries. While it was rightly so in many cases (phasers, shields, etc), it could also be very detrimental to the character and glory that was the Federation itself, and on a more personal note he had begun to like Lenara's straightforward, though child-like exhuberence and he was loathe to let anything happen to her.

Marek nodded as Talbert spoke, "While it is highly unlikely, it is a possibility. With the Regent capable of controlling the station, it would not be prudent to cross the Alterran's. I think we can convince the Admiral to see reason if he is tempted."

The commander stood. "Well, let's hope so. This station is going to be a premier location in this sector. I think we've got a great chance to really put our roots down. I'd hate to see Croft, or anyone else think they can dismantle the team and take this station apart.

"If you'll excuse me, captain, we're entering the realignment of the power core. We should be able to link the shields and weapons without loss of power from now on. If that's the case, we'll be a formidable force. I don't think the Tal'harton really know what's in store for them. Incidentally, I sent a probe in the direction the last ship from that fleet went, and it's holding about 8 million kilometers out. Should be a good early warning system."

Talbert turned and walked out, his opinion of Marek up a notch once again.

finding herself unable to rest due to the pain in her back and shoulder she looked at the clock closest to the bunk she was using. she'd been in the crew quarters for an hour and had yet to sleep despite how exhausted she was. Her body just hurt to much to let her sleep.

You can't let your crew see you weak she thought to herself as she pondered just how it would appear if she was found in medical asking for the pain meds she denied earlier.

fuck it... she thought to herself. As she pushed off the bed she felt a stab of pain run down her back as the muscles fought against her putting her weight on them.

"Dammit" she said as she pulled her right arm into her body and tried again to stand, this time with less pain. "I just need something to help me relax, then I can sleep and I'll be fine" she said to herself as she walked back down the corridor towards medical.

Dr. Malen looked up as the young Security officer entered his make-shift sickbay. Chief of Security He chastised himself. Putting on a smiled, though he felt far from smiling, he spoke.
"Lieutenant, how is the shoulder?"

Marek watched Talbert leave, his mind turning to the Tal'Harton, I have delayed this for too long He stood, grabbing a PADD, and strode purposefully from the room. Nodding to the watch officer, he headed for a turbolift, "I'll be in the brig." In what seemed a blink of an eye, Marek found himself acknowledging the security officer at the door. He entered a command into the console, then entered. He stood in front of the security field for a moment, noting the Tal'Harton had made no reaction to his entrance.
"I am Captain Marek, of the Federation Starship Guardian. I desire to speak with your commanding officer."

Lenara had just finished the program that would give the Regent's new body the desired characteristics. The skeleton, or frame work as Lenara preferred, that had been visible when she first entered was now covered in equipment, virtually invisible to the naked eye. She monitored the equipment for a moment, then set an alarm to notify her if things went awry. Must get to the power core, Commander Talbert is expecting the realignment at this moment. As she strode towards the lift, she felt a weariness she had never felt before. She was chagrined to realize that she was overdue for a regenerating cycle. As the lift doors closed, she calculated in her mind multiple equations. If I can get the realignment done on schedule, I should have enough time to regenerate before I am needed again in the computer core She smiled to herself, thinking How do humans do it, needing sleep every night?"

Alterran Station
Lt Mehvra-Kuplo

After getting specifics on how to help the Regent, Mehv assembled three small teams to work on the Regent issue. He also organized the main station repair crews. The team rotation normally set up on the Guardian also worked well here, so they didn't have to go through a rough transition. Switching to an unknown station was difficult enough without having to work with a new team.

Mehv was on the 1st and 2nd shift of the Regent teams. Needing less sleep came in really handy at crunch times. Lenara was there almost constantly and the others were performing well. They had been able to clean the power feed to the memory core which slowed down the degradation of the data. 3rd Shift team came up with a improved error correction methodology that also help considerably. While it wouldn't prevent the inevitable, it did give them a little breathing room to make sure the regents new host would be completed properly.

Mehv was heading up to the computer core from his temporary quarters and passed Lenara in the hall. Giving her a big smile, he said "Good morning. How did 3rd shift handle the modifications?"
