Lenara stops as Mehvra speaks. She smiles back at his cheerful demeanor.
"It went well, all initial system checks have been passed, I just started the tissue generation. Initial layering should be complete in 10 hours 12 minutes. I was just headed to the power core, Commander Talbert wants the power core realigned. I believe my skills will be needed for the procedure."

As usual, there was no movement for a a long, quiet moment. It was a power play, though the Tal'harton were clearly in the less-strategic position. Still, the arrogance and self-confidence exhuding from Inquisitor Vell was no less potent. He approached the tall Vulcan captain and stood at the security screen, his tongue flicking in and out rhythmically and slowly, taking a sense of the Starfleet officer before him. At long last he spoke, his hood flattening expanding in relation to his tone.

"Your desire is irrelevant, Captain." he hissed almost sarcastically. "The commanding officer of the fleet we came with has been killed during your illegitimate attack. The Coil before you is represented by me and I do not recognize your authority." He stood even taller it seemed; his neck was elongating until he stood nearly level with Marek's eyes, and he stared into them with the cold blackness of a reptile.

"You will admit that when your vessel arrived, the Tal'harton had already claimed this station and we were prepared to board her. Our fleet was merely responding to your illegal and war-like action. We contest your claim on this station and this nebula, and we will not tolerate your presence. In due course you will realize your error and you and your so-called fleet will come to serve the will of Tal!"

For just a moment, Marek felt light-headed, dizzy, almost agreeing with the Tal'harton inquisitor. But, being a vulcan, Vell's attempts to influence him soon fell short, as he erected a mental wall held at all times ready to control his own emotions...still the experience was...fascinating.

Going over some quick numbers in his head, he glances away for a second. "When was the last time you had some downtime? I don't recall you being off-duty since our arrival at the station." Mehv's brow furrows slightly.

Marek watched the Inquisitor for a moment, standing with his hands clasped behind his back, "While I can understand your position, your claim has no validity. A member of my crew is the last known Alterran in existence, and the main computer on this station recognizes her as the next in command of this station. As Lenara has accepted a commission in Starfleet, she is under my command. The artificial intelligence recognizes this commission, and as such recognizes Starfleet's possession of the station." Marek pauses for a moment, "As for the battle, the last time the Guardian crossed a Tal'Harton vessel, we saved them from Nekrali pirates. In return for our good will we were attacked by two more Tal'Harton vessels. I do not believe we acted rashly when we found you here at the station."

Alterran Station, corridor

Lenara smirks, a strange expression for her face, "I believe I am do for a rest. If all goes well with the power core, I will have enough time for a regeneration cycle before I must return to the computer core. Of course, I am not the only member of the crew that has been going without rest lately."

Vell lowered his head, the neck shrinking into itself, watching the Vulcan closely. At the mention of the last Alterran, his hood had momentarily peaked, seemingly doubling his size then just as quickly receding.

He blinked and seemed thoughtful for a moment. Finally, he looked at Marek and said, "When are we to be returned to our people? You have no right to restrain us. We are not members of the Tal'harton Viper fleet, we are Converters. We have no military value, nor interest in conquest. Merely the spreading of the Word of Tal. As members of the Holy Order, our confinement is viewed as religious oppression."

Marek shows no outward response to the sudden change of tack, but inside his mind was reeling. "Unfortunately, we will have to wait until several of our vessels arrive. Perhaps you could give me a subspace frequency to contact your remaining ship, so as to begin arrangements for your return?"

"Sounds like a good plan. I just want you to remember that just because you can go for so long without a break, that doesn't mean you should. People need activities other than work. Have you even taken a walk around the station yet, just to explore?"

Mehv leaves the question unanswered, gives a smile and continues on his way. Starting with some status reports, he takes stock of the current state of the repairs and the "Regent project". Things are moving along on schedule, but there was still no room for any delays. He sent some updated orders modifying the current priority list of tasks and then started attempting to replicate some of the station's core memory structures. Hopefully he would be able to stabilize the degradation.

Vell turned to his Coil and then back to Marek, the semblance of a smile spreading his already wide mouth wider still. "In other words, you will wait until you feel safe with your numbers. Very well, it matters little in the will of Tal. However, our ship is never far away."

Vell reached under his robe, and pulled out a small flat device, apparently from the folds of his abdominal wall. He held it up triumphantly and pressed a button before Marek had a chance to react. "I recommend you prepare a shuttle, and send us on our way. Otherwise, you will have another fleet to contend with, and this much larger than our previous one."

**********
OPS STATION, DANIELS REPORTING:
**********

Ensign Daniels looked up from his post in the Ops center. He had been overseeing the efforts by the Guardian staff to overcome the nebula's hinderance to subspace communications. A flashing light and alert caught his eye.

"Stephens to Talbert," he called out. "Commander, some sort of communicator has been activated on the outer hull of the station. A signal is going out in the direction of Tal'harton space!"

Nodding to Dr. Malen as she entered she tried to lower her arm and felt the stab of pain run through her shoulder.

"It appears that the shoulder isn't healing as well as I had wanted it to." she said and winced as she tried to pull the shoulder of her uniform down.

"The pain is killing me... I haven't slept more than 20 mintues in two days now" she said and looked away as the doctor went to examine her bandaged shoulder which stung and ached.

"I know I went against your advice and stayed on active duty, as I would like to continue, but the pain wont let me sleep, and it's causing difficulty with the use of my arm" she muttered and held a deep breathe as pain flowed through her.

Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian
Bridge

The Orion jogged up to the security station to over look the young junior ensign manning the post aboard the ship with limited crew aboard.

Taarak looked at the officer at security. "That can't be good." He tapped his comm badge. "Taarak to Commander Talbert. Not sure if you fellas aboard the station did this or not, but apparently the station is sending out a signal towards Tal'harton space."

Taarak paused, then looked at the security officer. Why did this have to happen during my shift on the bridge. It was a lot nicer when it was quiet, but at least I'm not sitting in that damn center chair. "Ensign, start scanning towards where ever that signal is going and see if anything is out that way."

The young ensign female — Bajoran — nodded. "Aye Sir."

Talbert sat upright in his bunk. Alarms were sounding and his name was being called from multiple speakers and locations. He leapt to a comm panel near his bed. "Talbert here, what's happening Ensign?" he called out.

Daniels nodded into the viewscreen and said "Please hold on, Mr. Taarak." He switched channels. "Commander, a signal has been dispatched from the hull, through some type of communicator previously affixed and meant to be undiscovered. It is sending a powerful subspace signal into Tal'harton space."

Talbert had his uniform half on and was pouring into the rest while heading to the door. "Find Vanquax and go to red alert!" He called out. "And alert Captain Marek! I'm on my way to Ops."

Daniels hit a switch and a deep robotic monotone sounded through the station's half-empty corridors. Deep in the security bay, Inquisitor Vell's face creased with a dark smile of triumph.

Marek swore to himself, but kept his demeanor. He walked over to a control panel, punching several buttons. The brig is flooded with anestasine gas, which, within moments, has the Tal'Harton collapsed to the floor. Nodding to the security officer, who brings his phaser rifle to the ready, Marek drops the shield. He retrieves the device and reactivates the containment field. "Drop the temperature ten degrees, I believe our civility has been mistaken for weakness." He strides out of the room, tapping his combadge, "Marek to Ops, I am enroute."

Sickbay
Dr. Malen scans the wound, a serious look on his face. "It appears to be slightly infected, the Tal'Harton must treat their blades with some powerful toxins." He pulls out a hypospray, making several injections, "One of these is a pain killer, it will numb the discomfort, this one is a cocktail of the most powerful antibiotics I have at my disposal, and this last one will let you sleep. You are relieved of duty, the crew will just have to muddle on with out you." As he finished the last injection, VanQuax's eyes were already drooping. He helped her lay down, and answered the page from Talbert before she could. "This is Dr. Malen, Lt. VanQuax has been relieved of duty, her second will have to take her place."

Talbert entered Ops at a run and moved toward the panel where Stephen was working to jam the signal. Enroute, he tapped his combadge and acknowledged Dr. Malen's pronouncement on V. "Security to Ops on the double." He moved to Daniels' side. "What have we got?" he inquired.

The frazzled ensign shook his head. "Dunno, sir. The signal keeps cycling randomly and blocking any change to my jamming frequencies. I can't stop it from transmitting. It appears to be a high frequency distress signal..not so much words we can decipher just a fluctuating tone."

Talbert looked to the sensors and noted a signal coming into range of the probe placed 8,000,000 km from the station. A ship was approaching.

He turned as Captain Marek entered the center. "Sir, we have ship enroute. Unknown configuration, but I think it's a safe bet that it's Tal'harton." He tapped his combadge. "Ops to Guardian, please confirm our sensor readings, do you have a ship on the scope?"

Lt. Taarak
USS Guardian
Bridge

Taarak jumped into the uncomfortable center seat and cocked his head part ways, "Ensign, view screen up as soon as we can see that ship."

"Ops to Guardian, please confirm our sensor readings, do you have a ship on the scope?"

Taarak looked at the flight control officer sitting the seat he was most comfortable. "Commander, sensor readings are confirmed, we're trying to find out what kind of vessel she is, but she looks like it could be heavily armed and she's coming up fast."

The ensign at security spoke up. "Lieutenant, should I raise shields?"

Taarak looked back at her with a puzzled look on his face. "Ensign, we're still docked to the station, if we raise shields we'll rip apart the docking clamp, I don't think the commander would be too happy with us."

Taarak stood and took a position on the bridge standing next to the flight officer. "Ensign Tanaka, get us ready to break away from the station and take a defensive position if need be." Taarak glared at the viewscreen filled with stars, waiting for the vessel to arrive. As much as he wanted to take the ship into action himself, he didn't think the young crew would be ready or experienced enough to handle it.
