Location: Bridge of USS Guardian
Reporting as: Lt. Commander Talbert
"Captain," called the Ops officer. "There has been a weapons discharge on the surface. I cannot determine what is happening, but Commander Gaer's lifesigns appear to have discontinued!"
He looks to the Science station for confirmation, his face ashen by the sudden change in sensor readings. _________________

USS Guardian Bridge
Captain Marek
Marek turned to his ops officer.
"Open a channel with the away team," Marek closed his eyes, taking a momment to isolate his grief. " We must ascertain if the remaining crew members are in danger." _________________

Roekil tapped his commbadge. "Guardian, this is Chief Roekil. McKlaggen is down and breathing and the Doc is tending to him. Commander Gaer is dead. Requesting emergency beamout." _________________

USS Guardian Bridge
Captain Marek
Marek stood.
"Beam the injured and the Doctor directly to sickbay. Mr. Talbert, you have the bridge, I will be in sickbay." He began walking to the turbolift. "Transport the two devices with energy signatures to the main science lab after the away team has been retrieved." The doors to the turbolift open and he steps inside. "Computer, deck 7." As soon as the door closed Marek placed a hand over his eyes. How could such a simple away mission go so wrong? _________________

USS Guardian Bridge
Commander Talbert
Talbert hit the emergency transporter sequence, specifiying sickbay for some, the transporter pad for others. Then he moved to the Captain's chair as his replacement took over.
"Mr. Daniels, alert the Science department that they are going to have visitors soon. And ask CPO Roekil to report to the bridge at once."
***********ENSIGN DANIELS******
"Aye, sir." was the prompt reply, followed by quiet efficiency. Death had invaded the ship, and there was no chatter; even the computers had seemed to mute their computations. The mood was dark and everyone felt the loss of the Tellerite Commander. _________________

OOC: I'm a Noncom, no ensign here, Chief Petty Officer Jeem Roekil. There is a somewhat interesting rank structure on Guardian where my character is "in charge" of officers that outrank him.
IC:
Roekil rode the lift from the transporter room to the bridge, his head hanging slightly. On his first mission in charge of the security for his ship, he ship's XO died. He had failed Captain Marek and was ready to turn in his resignation as Chief Security Officer. The doors to the lift whisked open and he walked to Commander Talbert.
"Chief Roekil reporting as ordered, sir." _________________

OOC Someday I might explain the reasoning behind that, but I think it will be IC suffice it to say that's how I and Marek want it.
IC
USS Guardian, Deck 7, Sickbay
Captain Marek
Marek entered sickbay after the emergency beam in. It looked like the entire medical team was working on one patient, while another lay with a sheet over him. From the body's length and obvious facial structure showing through the sheet it could only be the Tellerite first officer. Marek suddenly turned and left the sickbay. He found himself in front of the counselors office. He realized he had not had the chance to really meet with the counselor. I should rectify that oversight He straitened his shirt, then walked a few more steps and entered the main science lab. The object his team had discovered and ultimately led to the loss of Commander Gaer was sitting on a large table in the center of the lab. Marek placed a hand on the side of the object. Was it worth it? A single tear slid down his face. _________________

(OOC: Sorry, caught and corrected).
"What the hell happened, Chief?" blurted out Talbert. He immediately regretted it, seeing the crest-fallen security man. His mind went back to the team he had sent to the Odyessy just before the war. He stood and walked closer to the large rock-like being.
"I'm sorry," he said, his voice somewhat softer, "I know this is a difficult moment. What can you tell me about what happened there?" _________________

"Sir, respectfully I don't know. I was manning the perimeter, setting sensor drones when it happened. When I looked up McKlaggen was down by some strange cat-like creature and Commander Gaer was down, from the looks of things from a phaser blast. I believe that Ensign McKlaggen dropped his phaser rifle and it discharged."
The Brikarian non-com lowered his eyes to the floor. For someone of his stature, he looked almost small.
"Sir, this is my fault and I am prepared to resign my position and submit to disciplinary action. I should have been prepared for something like this. I consider the Commander's death my failing as a security officer. I should have ensured proper weapon's safety and made sure that Ensign McKlaggen's weapon was safed." _________________

Despite the situation, Talbert smiled.
"No, Chief, there will be no resignations today. You'll find Starfleet leadership is rife with difficult situations. This was not your fault." He looked back at Lt. Surok. "Lieutenant, you should be in main science, the chief here will go with you as far deck 4." He looked back at Roekil.
"Get yourself something to eat, maybe some rest. Then be prepared to report to the Captain." He patted the big man on his shoulder. "Trust me, you'll be all right." _________________

"Yes sir. I'll make sure I am available to meet with the Captain as soon as he wants to meet with me."
Roekil turned and stepped into the turbolift and left the bridge. _________________

As they left the bridge, Talbert turned to the command chair, and tapped a communications button.
"Bridge to Captain Marek. I have sent Chief Roekil to his quarters for a moment to regain his composure, and Lt. Surok is on his way to the Science lab. Any other orders?" _________________

USS Guardian Deck 7 Main Science Lab
Captain Marek
"Bridge to Captain Marek. I have sent Chief Roekil to his quarters for a moment to regain his composure, and Lt. Surok is on his way to the Science lab. Any other orders?"
Marek was staring at the object, his mind lightyears away. After a moment he taps his combadge.
"Marek here. Notify the Senior Staff and Department heads that we will be meeting in the staff room at .. (roughly two hours from now). I would also like you and Chief Roekil to meet me there 30 minutes prior to the meeting. Marek out."
Eighty-five minutes later, Marek has cleaned up and eaten a meal (pushed some food around on a plate might be more accurate). He is sitting at the head of the table of the staff room, a PADD in his hand. _________________

USS Guardian (Deck 7 - Chief Counselor's Office)
Lieutenant Redoal Shimaan
"Chief Counselor to Captain Marek, I am here, if needed."
Redoal sighed and put his head in his hands. His skin was rough, lack of sleep due to numerous midnight callings had seen to that.
He was looking forward to a nice quite spell now he had gotten the enlisted crew settled in. To be honest, he thought that Senior officer's would reject his help, and he was right, he had not been requested or seen by any one higher than his own rank. It was difficult, and he had not full settled into his own role. He had just been filing a report when he heard of the death.
He had a feeling he would be very busy for the next couple of months.
Well, a new ship and new disaster was the basic way to get your crew working at full capacity. |
