((OOC: I could make a comment about a Betazoid who's an expert on Friekians becoming a Friekazoid...but I think I have too much taste for that. ))
"Yes, sir. You said the space station has had dealings with these people in the past, right? So they'd have the most comprehensive knowledge of their culture. Is that correct?" _________________

Croft looked from Calodan to Qech, seeing who would make the first move. He grabbed himself a cup of coffee as for a moment neither jumped in after the Captain finished. I don't see an away team being very helpful, but you never know _________________

Lt. Cory Drake
USS Hartington
Conference room
Drake nodded slightly and grabbed his glass of warm water. "I'll get working on those sensors immediately, Sir." Drake said, waiting to be excused by the captain.
His mind was already wandering on ways he could improve the sensor net -- all of which could easily be done in the sciences department a few decks below. The bridge consoles were adequate, but he could do a lot more from sciences where his own people could help him as well.
It's going to be interesting trying to figure out what is causing their problems down there. Drake thought to himself as he took a sip of the warm water. _________________

"Commander, work with Lieutenants Calodan and Croft on plans for a landing party should one be needed."
Qech nodded, and inwardly wondered what they could possibly do for a planet that was facing a global disaster. If it was natural, a landing party was only going to do so much good. But, like she'd said herself, they had to be ready for anything. She motioned to Calodan and Croft to follow, got permission to be excused from the Captain and prepared for what was sure to be a very long afternoon. _________________

Croft grabbed one last swallow of coffee then followed the Commander and Calodan out of the conference room, content to let them do the talking, his mind elsewhere. _________________

Calodan followed the other two out of the room, grabbing his three PADDs off the table in front of him. They contained all of his notes on the meeting and ideas and speculation as to how to get down to this planet.
"So Mr. Croft, if we have to land a craft on the planet, think you can do it on visual readings only?" _________________

Croft looks at Calodan, a briefly guilty look flashing across his face, "I, uh, yes, as long as the interference doesn't disrupt the shuttles systems should be a piece of cake." _________________

((OOC: I'm going to elliptical edit here and time lapse, if that's okay. Only because there's info my char wouldn't have until she studied it. If I move things along too fast just let me know and I'll ret-con this))
Aria excused herself quietly and went off to research the Friesiens. Almost immediately as she was reading the material something caught her eye, which had her up and jogging towards the captain's ready room.
She buzzed the room chime and when he responded she entered.
"Sir, I think I've found something of interest to the mission. The Friesian's planet underwent massive magnetic shifts in their planet before. Apparently they developed scientific methods of controlling those shifts to prevent exactly the disasters we're now seeing." She paused and took a deep breath. "One of the main things they did was create a orbital space station near their north pole which emitted a ray which balanced things...somehow. I'm not sure exactly how, but I've sent the information to Lieutenant Drake--maybe he'll be able to make better sense of it."
She realized she was rambling again and forced herself to stop. "Sir," she said. "The space station's gone. This problem isn't a natural disaster at all." _________________

OOC: Don't worry about it, you're doing exactly right. In fact I'm glad you did, because I wasn't sure how to move the story along...
Character: Captain David Brennon
Location: Captain's Ready Room, USS Hartington
The Captain listened to his new diplomatic officer ramble on as she explained the data she had been reviewing. He was about to gently nudge her in the direction of her point when she came to it herself.
"Sir, the space station's gone. This problem isn't a natural disaster at all."
Brennon's eyes narrowed as he considered the implications of the find. His mind began to go over all of the data he'd been receiving over the past few hours.
"No wreckage was discovered, at least nothing as large as a space station. This is a startling find, Lieutenant. Well done. Very well done."
Without dismissing her, the Captain tapped his own combadge and called out for more of his officers.
"Commander Qech and Lieutenant Uvek, please report to my ready room immediately." _________________

It hadn't seemed like Qech had been in her office very long, hashing out the details of a landing party with Calodan and Croft, when the Captain's voice came over her combadge.
"Commander Qech and Lieutenant Uvek, please report to my ready room immediately."
Her brow furrowed as she stood from behind her desk, tapping her combadge. "On my way, Sir." She exchanged confused looks with the other two as she excused herself.
"Keep thinking about that magnetic interference dilemma. There's got to be a way to make this at least somewhat safer. Hopefully I'll be right back."
The other Officer that had been called to the ready room was what worried her. Uvek wouldn't have been called in unless there was a tactical situation. Maybe there's more to this than we thought after all, she thought as she entered the Captain's office. _________________

((OOC: Well, OOC I can't take the credit. Uvek p.m.ed me because I was the one doing background research and he told me about the satellite.
Of course, IN CHAR, I'm perfectly happy to take the credit. )) _________________

Lt. Cory Drake
USS Hartington
Drake ran through the corridors, weaving his way through the massive ship on his way to the captains office on the Hartington. Dodging other crew mates in the corridor as the picked up his pace.
Drake lifted his right arm and wiped the sweat from his brow and he jumped into the turbolift. "Bridge, hurry." The turbolift jumped into motion as it carried him up six decks to the bridge where the doors slid open again.
The science chief, gripping a pad tightly with his holographic left arm burst into the captain's office where Qech and Uvek were already visiting with the captain, along with the ship's new diplomatic officer.
"Captain, sorry to interrupt, but it was urgent and too important for a comm link!" Drake said. He held out his PADD, showing several lines on it. "In getting the sensors to work better and focus more on the planet and the area around it, I found something very interesting."
Drake paused, looking at the diplomatic officer. "Sorry, I did get your info that you passed along and I do have more info on that as well."
The science chief then turned back to the captain and swallowed hard.
"I found something interesting when looking over the new sensor data as it was coming in. There are several electromagnetic and warpfield eddies leading away from the planet, and I mean several, which could mean a vessel or vessels, Captain."
Drake paced back and forth looking at the captain, commander and Uvek all at the same time. "After further studying and more info came in on these warpfield eddies, I've only come to one conclusion, Sirs. One of the vessels or maybe all, were massive. I'm talking about Borg cube size, or larger to create these eddies. I've never seen anything like them in my years studying sciences."
Drake wiped his brow again, embarrassed he was sweating so much and hoping he was making sense to everyone in the office. "If we hadn't enhanced the scanners or if Aria hadn't forwarded me this information, I don't think I would have come across these eddies." _________________

Uvek nodded. "That coincides with my scans, captain. There is no evidence that the Frieka possess such technology. I believe they are a victim of external and unnatural forces. I recommend using an old Romulan spy trick to circumvent their satellite problems." He handed the captain a PADD himself, as there seemed no shortage of them at present.
"We use an existing frequency to work a signal into the satellite system itself. Despite the magnetic interference, the Frieka seem capable of cutting through it. Only outside the system and off-world are we experiencing the problem. Magnetics may be actually bending the transmission waves back into the atmosphere. By closing distance we may be able to establish a reasonable link. At any rate, time seems to be of the essence."
He looked at Drake for confirmation of this. _________________
